I'm going to address this subject as respectfully as I can. Do NKy HS football programs lack ethnic, cultural and racial diversity and does this impair the ability to compete with teams made up from more diverse populations?

Northern Kentucky as a whole lacks ethnic diversity. Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties have about a 95% white population base according to Wilkipedia. You got to play what you got. Highlands, Beechwood, CovCath and Newport Cath have had great success over the years.

I think NKY lacks diversity because of its proximity to Cincinnati. I think you can use this argument with Louisville and southern Indiana. Your urban area's tend to have a larger black than white population whether its for housing, transportation, etc. The Ohio river, although narrow, is as wide as an ocean. I bet if you looked at the enrollment of Newport, Holmes and Holy Cross they would have a larger black population than the rest of the NKY schools with the exception of Boone County High School, because they are closest to Cincinnati. The socio-economic paradigm you present has many view points. The view points I have presented are only a small part of the factors of the lack of diversity in NKY.

Ability to compete? Yeah, right. Go ask NCC, Highlands, Cov Cath, B'wood, S.Kenton if they're able to compete with the rest of the state. I'd say more than compete, for the most part.

As I wipe my laptop off after spitting my coffee out, let me attempt to respond.
I would submit to you Pick6, no, the lack of diversity doesn't impair a teams ability to compete against a more diverse team.
What does impair a teams ability to compete is lack of work ethic, will power, talent, and leadership. These qualities do not discriminate, nor should we. ( I'm not implying you are )
E's Army and SSM already covered the geo-ethnic boundaries which are accurate. The diversity of the student-athletes reflect the diversity of their respective communities. I would say Desales, and Collins' work ethic, will power, talent, and leadership caught up to NCC and Highlands yesterday regardless of their "diversity."
Highlands "lack of diversity" for six consecutive seasons, prior to yesterday, didn't hinder them!
Hope my two cents helps.

Cracks me up that Highlands and NCC lose in the finals and now people talking about shit like this. Come on guys how about Belfry. They make routine trips to Bowling Green and last time I checked the population on Pond Crk is very white.

I am just as shocked to see this as anyone. I have noticed in the past this very thing. I just figured they played with what lives there, I am glad that mine goes to a school where he meets and befriends people of all races and origins. I think it makes him a better and more educated person.

In the history of 6A/4A football , has there ever been a state champion from NKy? Maybe this is strictly a 6a issue because the teams that make deep into the playoffs in 6a seem to have multiple d1 level skill athletes that we do not seem to produce in this area, nor, do you really see much of in lower classes very often.

NKY, I appreciate your opinion but how could you possibly know the level of my education. I don't think I said 1 negative thing in my reply and quiet frankly I don't understand that response. I simply said they play with who they have and I am glad my son has the opportunity to get to know others because it makes him a better person.

Pretty funny excuse for not winning a state title. Until yesterday, Highlands had not lost a playoff game since 2006 and NCC had won multiple titles in recent years. I don't think their losses are due to a "lack of diversity". They just got outworked and outplayed this weekend.

It was not HHS lack of diversity I was thinking of. Obviously, they have been very successful without being particularly diverse. It was specifically the 6a teams I was thinking of.

I didn't see anything negative in his comments.
Plus, I always think it's funny when people talk about education and have grammar mistakes in two sentences.
It's too, not to
It should be you're in the other post instead of your when you called someone a troll.

Don't bring that BGP garbage into here.
Race doesn't mean a thing in high school sports.
For every good white athlete, there's a good black one. For every good black athlete, there's a good white one. This debate could go on and on, it's no secret that black players tend to have the upperhand in speed, it's why we only see black running backs and mostly black receivers in the NFL, but who are you going to blame for that? Genetic or not, the fact that it's being discussed is absurd. For anyone who whines about black players having the genetic upperhand, thank your ancestors for breeding them and working them that way a 150 years ago.
It all evens out in the end. If there was ever a stereotype on how a mostly white team can dominate, you need not look any further that Highlands.
The thing that matters more than anything is the coaching.

That would be a depth issue, not a diversity issue!

Well they are the only region of the Commonwealth that will not be home to a state champion this year. Western KY is about to have 2 as is Louisville with Central KY having one and even EKY got 1 this year

I love that highlands looses one game and then they suck and cant compete.
What an ignorant thread. and you didn't do it respectfully.

Wow - one year a N Ky team doesn't win a championship (although two played in one) and suddenly we have a debate over whether racial diversity is the "fall" of N Ky football.
Hilarious.

Not sure why you quoted my reply. I agree with you and never said a thing about Highlands sucking. Then you say I didn't do it respectfully, all the while saying how ignorant this thread is. Is that respectful? I don't get it.

Teams like Shawnee and Western in Louisville or Bryan Station in Lexington every year are about as "diverse" as you can get.
How many state titles do THEY have?
