Final 1a rankings
#1
Now that the season's concluded, how would you rank the Top 10 teams in 1a? Here's how I'd rank them:

1) Mayfield
2) Russellville
3) Frankfort
4) Williamsburg
5) Hazard
6) Beechwood
7) Raceland
8) Pikeville
9) Bellevue
10) Bethlehem

Let's hear it !

No. Pikeville beat Hazard, so no way Hazard belongs that far above them. Picked a horrible time to get conservative against a good team (Raceland), I'm sure the coaching staff would love to have that game over. But Raceland won. So... I would have it

Mayfield
Russellville
Frankfort
Williamsburg
Beechwood
Raceland
Pikeville
Hazard
Bellevue
Bethlehem

Guys, you still have to put W'burg second. They finished runner-up in Class A. I know you think Russellville and Frankfort is better than W'burg, based on yesterday's game, but I think the big game just got to the Jackets. Obviously, Mayfield was on another level, but I think W'burg is better than 35-0 in the first quarter. I'd still have them #2.

You may be right. I looked at it like this. They both lost 2 games. I felt Hazard played a little better schedule. They played W'Burg a lot closer than Raceland did, who beat Pikeville. They had a very solid win against Somerset and there loss to Pikeville was a very close game, as was there loss to Fairview, who I felt they outplayed but shot themselves in the foot the whole game. They doubled them in yardage. At the end of the year, I felt they were playing better ball.

I think either of those look pretty good. I would like to see Beechwood against Williamsburg though.

Pikeville played Middlesboro, Prestonsburg, Russell, Hazard, Belfry. Hazard had Breathitt, Prestonsburg, Somerset, Fairview. Fairly even, really. And don't let the final score fool you, Pikeville dominated that game against Hazard. Hazard scored twice on recovered onside kicks in the final 4 minutes to make it appear closer. At one point it was 56-21. I was actually there, so I know, I'm not relying on final scores. And Pikeville put 70 on Middlesboro, scored 20 against Belfry (only 4 other teams did that all year), etc. Like I said, picked a bad time to lay an egg/have a bad game (against Raceland). Not taking anything away from Hazard or Raceland, I just feel there is no way when you look at ALL of the information, you can say Hazard should be ranked 3 spots ahead of a team that dominated them. All the teams are deserving in your rankings, just the order is a little out of wack with actual results. And actually, Hazard lost 3 games. Fairview beat them, it was changed to a forfeit later.

Mayfield is #1. That is all that matters until August.

Well I hope the Cards enjoy the weekend and live it up so that come Monday they can get down to work. Next year starts Monday and like every year there is alot of work to get done as we are already behind the others that lost earlier than we did and have a head start getting ready for next year

1 is obvious then there is a good size drop off to#2 where Russellville is perched and they are closely flamked by Frankfort. Never really gave it much thought but I guess one could say we had by far the toughest road to a title, though it was never really tough.

I would have to give Beechwood the #4 and William the #5
#11
I think i would have beechwood ahead of williamsburg as well
#12
You will be glad to know I have had that very discussion with one of our football players just a few minutes ago. He come to me and told me that the road to state next year starts Monday.

Is this kid transferring to Frankfort? Next year you guys make the 4 hour drive. 7-6 at half and our big back got injured and our burner was playing with a broken foot. Don't think I'm making excuses but all I heard was how much better Mayfield is with Deion. They are good with that young man. He won't be here next year, but all of our guys are back.

55 whitepantherking is calling you out. 64 will be jealous if you quit him for whitepantherking .

Better flip 2 and 3. Russellville played Mayfield with Mayfield not plying at full strength. Still got beat. If Frankfort played Mayfield at half strength the final may have been entirely different.

Hear they meet in Bowling Green, wonder if there is a photo? Which one do you think had their, I'm with idiot shirt on?
#17
No transfers. Been here since kindergarten. Frankfort was a very good team. I still would stick with Russellville as #2. I am not saying that to knock Frankfort either. We will be much, much, much faster as a team next year. We have the Bright kid at rb. We have 4 receivers back, plus another burner at receiver that's a freshman. We got another back that will be a freshman next year that is about as fast as Bright.
#18
I really think people are gonna be shocked at the reload for 2014. I wouldn't move us out of that #1 spot just yet.
#19
I did meet 64 and there are no known photos. He couldn't face the penalties for the indecent exposure thing.
#20
Mayfield is the team to beat until proven otherwise. But I expect the rest of us to give it the old college try.
#21
I will be suprised if Frankfort gets past Beechwood next year, they were luck to have done so this year and are like 1 and 50 against Beechwood
#22
I didn't want to upset anyone but, I too was thinking it would be the wood that will make it to substate.

Losing Deion Jackson is a big loss. He was the breakaway threat on the team, but, they do return Bacon, Kennemore and Reed, who all caught a lot of passes this year, so, I still think there WR core will be a strong suit for them next year. Losing Guhy is also a huge loss. His leadership and production will be hard to replace, but, losing all those linemen will be the hardest to replace. Matheny, Downing, Hayden, Kendall, etc. Those guys were the unsung heros and backbone of the team, but, Mayfield always seem to plug in new guys every year and still be very good and I expect nothing less next year.
#25
We got several linemen still in the cupboard. We have another burner at wr that wasn't used this year because he was freshman. We got Arnett and at least 2 other options for qb. Our strong suit will be defense and running backs though. We will be fine. Scratch that, we will be better than fine.

MC, you know I am a very considerate person.
