Thanksgiving
#1
What do you look forward to, what's on the menu, what do you dislike if anything, what are favorite traditions?

I'll get us rolling.

My in-laws host a 20+ family gathering with all the usual fix ins. A cousin-in-law makes the best mashed taters. Some great combo of garlic, sour cream, and vitamin D milk. The wife makes a mean chocolate pecan pie ( heavy on the chocolate :yum: ) and with plenty of Cool Whip.

I'm entrusted to carve the birds, it takes two and am enlisted to determine how much gravy to make based on how dry or not the bird is ( my Mother-in-law is a renown dry bird producer ). I love the company and the food. I'm really looking forward to seeing my less than 6 month old nephew. Even if just to hold him for a few minutes. I'm a sucker for babies and love being an Uncle.

Speaking of uncles, my wifes uncle is a notorious silent but violent fart machine. The man can clear a room like no other. This would be my only dislike Confusednicker:.

We'll have a home full of family, some of their friends and loved ones and will give God the glory for our blessings, growth, freedom, understanding, and purpose! I always look forward to my Father-in-Laws prayer.

Once the tryptophan kicks in I'll be in a recliner asleep for at least a half hour while watching the Lions or Dallas.

Folks, have a blessed Thanksgiving, be good to yourselves, have a meal, love on your family/friends, be mindful and thankful. God bless you BGR.

Awww, pretty cool Spirit100....(except for the blue/white avatar!)Confusednicker:
Sorry had to poke at you one more time!!!!

My family demands two Thanksgiving dinners. With all the "boys" involved, you gotta give 'em what they want.

So, one crew wants turkey, dressin', mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and cornbread. Whilst the other crew wants ham, sweet tater casserole, fried corn, deviled eggs and hot rolls. I don't have enough room to list ALL the deserts, but here are a few.....four layer pumpkin roll cake, homemade pies, i.e. butterscotch, lemon and chocolate, better than sex cake (that's just the name, it really isn't) Confusednicker:

We will eat til we can barely move, then have desert, then one TV will have football playing while the other will be playing "Christmas Vacation".

Children, I dearly love the holidays because it's another excuse for the family and close friends to get together and have a wonderful meal and enjoy sharing time.

We host Thanksgiving at our house every year. Usually average around 25 people but have had as many as 45 before. I cook a few turkeys and one ham. The rest of the family brings side dishes and then we make the desserts. I take off Wednesday just to get the house ready with tables, chairs, etc... After everyone eats then we turn on the game (with no sound) and then we visit with family members.

We have done this tradition every since we bought our current house 12 years ago. We took one year off just to have a break. It is nice not having to travel to different houses in one day but it is very stressful hosting that many people.

I would love to also do a huge family Christmas at my house but that has yet to catch on.

Hope everyone has a good holiday.

This Thanksgiving as we gather with our friends & family, giving thanks for our blessings and each other, I hope you take time to enjoy your family and friends and remember those less fortunate.

Everyone travel safely and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Be thankful, and mindful for what you do have: it could be as simple as another day, a meal, phone call to a loved one, a shift in perspective for the better.

I've been unemployed, worried about my car being repossessed, losing my home, and concerned about that next tank of gas. I know the fear, worry, anger, depression, and anxiety that comes with lives struggles. In some way shape or form most of us can relate to fear driven conditions.

I tell you that, to tell you this. It has been those times in my life when iron sharpens iron that I've grown more, lived more, felt more connected mindful and thankful than ever before. Put one foot in front of the other and move forward, have faith, believe ( work ethic and discipline are key ) and know there are others who are on your path and have been there before. You are never alone.

So whether a big feast with a lot of folks or government cheese and crackers by yourself be thankful.

The choice is yours.
