A Tribute to Champions: The Story of Pikeville High School Football 1972-1989
#1
This program was produced by crew at PikeTV, channel 99 here in Pikeville. Andrew Joyce, a Panther alum, hosts as many former Panther players and coaches are in studio to discuss the legacies made that built the foundation for the tradition that is Pikeville Football. A big shout out to Jim Williamson, a member of the Panther Football radio crew, and a huge Panther fan for his work as the "executive producer" for the show. He got it all lined up and got the players and coaches to come be a part of it. It was awesome and I am glad I was able to attend the taping. The stories behind the scenes were even more fun! It was so cool to see so many different generations of Panthers coming together and reminiscing on their time in the Maroon and White! Would love to see some more stuff like this in the future and I know we are going to be working hard to provide it! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Thanks PT for posting this. I saw this on PikeTv a couple of weeks ago. Always good to see it again as it gives a good history of PHS football. These players from the 72 - 89 team reflect the foundation of this program as it stands today. Imo, one of the best coaching staffs ever assembled from the mountains, if not the State. I, for one, certainly appreciate what these young men, and Coach Howard, Coach Allara, and all the way down to Coach Mac has done for PHS football. Would also like to add, imo, look for the Panthers to take A LOT further next season..........HAIL PIKEVILLE!!

I love learning about Pike County football history. The historian in me can appreciate the hard work by the Pikeville faithful that went into this. I'd like to see something like this for every team in Pike Co.

Same way.

We are looking at doing some more less professional stuff with what equipment we have. Some stuff that would take up hours of time, but would be well worth this listen when someone has time.

Ideas like a series of Pikeville's best: QBs, RBs, WRs, etc....

And just the storytelling. When you have limited time, you have limited quotes. In the future, we want the players to basically just have a few questions to guide them in directions and then let them roll with it. Kind of like a roundtable discussion.

Like you said, it is a ton of work, but stuff like this is rare and preserving history is something I feel like we need to do.

For me, this was the first time I had heard some of these guys talk about these things and some are people I have known my whole life. It is great to give them an avenue to let them share their side of things and give the ones that weren't around a first look and for those that were a way to reminisce.

Panther Thunder, really looking forward to this. Something like a round table discussion by former players, and possibly former, and current Coaches would be great, imo. Both Jim Williamson, and you deserve a big "thank you" for the thought, and work that goes into producing informative things such as this. Imo, all Panther fans, alumni, and current players and Coaches should look forward to enjoying this.
