Is the Jewell show over in Corbin?

adopted purple Wrote:I know, but it is a good indicator, added to everything else. The first Wayne County game was a good ballgame. What happened in the last game 36-0 ?

At the very least they were out coached. Time for a change.

I'm not exactly sure why it happened, but the kids lost their passion after the first Wayne Co. loss. Wayne Co. had a better team than Corbin, but I thought Corbin played with more fire than the Cards in the first game. In the second game, Corbin did not come close to matching Wayne Co's intensity, so the result was what it was.

Jewell chewed their butts and blamed them for the loss. The kids turned on each other. The practices were awful had to stop practices due to kids arguing and fighting. He should have used the loss to feed on not break them apart. Then they get blowed out due to being out coached and out played. They had 295 less yards rushing from one game to the next.

 please surrender!!

I obviously never played at Corbin, but ive always hear Willard was the main problem.
A lot of older guys liked him back in the day, but it just didnt keep up over the years.

I think Corbin fans have given up on McNeel retiring. He'll probably go out in a casket. I dont know how much longer he will stay, but i guess getting longest running super in the state comes with its advantages. That story in the paper about what supers make says all you need to know.

Some how some where I thought I read where you posted that you played for Cotton Adams at Corbin and he was the only coach that didn't wear flip flops, would you please correct me.

Coach Jackson is not just a great coach ( the very best or equal to I have ever seen) But, Corbin would get a fantastic spiritual leader of young men. I wonder if the assistant coaches would come with him or, be better for the Corbin program to stay at middle school. They too are fantastic ( Record speaks for itself) I know coach Jackson would make the right decision.

I don't know what you all are talking about. I watched Corbin play this year, and they were no where near as talented as Wayne. I think it was amazing that they hung in there against them in the first game. Corbin is in a tough district, and they will have trouble winning this district for some time. This is not the coaches fault. I think he did a good job with this group. Corbin has grown, and now they have to move up in football. They may not be as succesful, but is that going to change with a different coach?

I played for Cotton at Whitley.
Did you not know that Cotton was an assistant at Whitley for over a decade?
He was the only coach THERE that wasnt wearing them in the summer time.

I have never once said i played at Corbin.

This job is not open. I love how a fan can start a thread and now people are picking his replacement.

To be really honest Willard Farris is on of the finest Offensive Coordinators in the state. I was talking to a few coaches the other day and Corbin is by far one of the toughest teams offensively to prepare for year in and year out. Willard has forgotten more football than most coaches will ever know. If you Corbin fans don't want him I'm sure that their are lots of teams that would love to have him.

I actually like Willard but to say Corbin is hard to prepare for??? No not really stack 8 in the box walk the safeties and corners up and Corbin's done. Against bell and Wayne the second time we ran out of lots if formations but every play went to the same place off tackle. That's not hard to prepare for and any good team can stop Corbin's run game. You know where the balls going every time. If they send a person in motion it's going to be a jet sweep. Very predictable!!

That's your opinion and by all means you are untitled to it.

They didn't hang in there the first game against Wayne. Corbin ran it down their throat 300+ yards on the ground. Wayne prepared for that the second time around we got 15 yards rushing. Have you talked to any of the football players?? Make an effort to reach out to anybody on the team now or anyone who has graduated the last 2-3 years. Ask them where we get this!! He has no personality the kids will not perform for some one the don't believe in. That's the way a large number of the people I've talked to feel and I know several parents and players (present and past).

I bet he was wearing his blue jeans!!

Cotton is 1 of the better coaches the mountains has seen. He got done wrong at Corbin PERIOD!!!!

I was on the sideline of Corbin and wayne games. I was impressed with the way the coaches dealt with players. Parents on the sideline were a different matter. They were angry. Hard to keep kids motivated when parents are that antagonistic.

I think he ranks toward the top at the state level.
By then he had traded in his blue jeans for cargo shorts and a sun hat.
His silky smooth legs needed the sun Confusednicker:

It is also no accident that Whitley had some it best years when Cotton was hanging around.

People have mentioned Willard as a great offensive Coach and he is a good mind but his gameplan's are so complex that practice time is spent on that instead of fundementals.

Corbin's limitation was the qb. They couldn't throw it well enough to take pressure off the running game. Once they got behind Wayne was able to tee off. Corbin caught Wayne napping a little the first game, Corbin was no where near as good as Wayne was at any position. Why is that so hard to accept? Next year the tables will be turned.

Johnnyd. Wayne is wayne and Corbin always beats them wayne can't improve have a nice team or even prepare better because they are inferior.
Therefore it is the coaches' fault.

Where was all this when they lost to bell?

There were some things that Wayne Co. was giving to Corbin in the passing game that in my opinion would have forced Wayne Co. to slow down their pass rush, but they had to be quick hitters. Releasing the TE for quick slants would have forced the LB's off of the line of scrimmage, also the screen pass could have gone for huge yardage virtually every down until the defense adjusted, which would have loosened up the running game. You cannot block 8 or 9 with only 5-6 no matter how many times you try. Bell County showed other teams the blueprint to stop the Corbin running game, granted you have to be good enough up front and at the LB position for it to really work. Wayne's DL dominated at a position or two and one of their LB's seemed to be unblocked most of the night, so they were definitely good enough to put a whooping on the Redhounds.

It would have been great if the QB could have changed the play at the line after seeing the defensive alignment, but the Corbin QB's are not allowed to audible.

Are you serious??? I'm the one saying Wayne has to be favorite to win a state title. They have a great team and are going to be hard to knock off!! We are referring to the Wayne game because of the big difference between the scores. Your coach did a wonderful job preparing for the second game Jewell on the other hand had no plan to counter what Wayne would do. Jewell also made a horrible decision on log mtn to go for it on his own 30 yard line on 4th and 2 with 130 to go in the game. We also closed the play book when waddle got hurt at bell. If u kept track of the Corbin post you would see that we gave him crap for that too. Which I don't expect you to follow Corbin threads I definitely don't follow Wayne's. The problem with Steve Jewell has been going on for several years. The Corbin REDHOUNDS are not satisfied with mediocrity. We know Jewell we all know his personality and it may not be his intention but it sucks. We will gladly trade you coaches if you like him so well. Good luck to you guys this Friday hope the rain doesn't slow Guffey down central needs a good whipping!!

Too bad you were not around for the next few weeks after they ripped the heart and souls out of the redhound players!!!! He talked down to the kids and layers the blame on them after that the team was divided!!! That's a fact I've talked to several players at different times and all their stories matched up. Heck yeah the fans were angry we looked like a pee wee league team!!

Corbin made a big mistake when they let him go.

Cotton's grandson was a senior on this year's Corbin team. Ask him his opinion on this year's team if you get the chance.

He did not bother to attend the meeting to watch game film Tuesday Dillon was one of the seniors who didn't give him the time of day. Who calls the football team in to watch film during school and why? He called them in and the first thing he said was it wasn't my fault we lost!! From my understanding after the first 15 min or so kids started walking out. Jewell cannot man up and take blame for anything he talks down to all the kids and has no respect or communication with them. I sure would like to see old Cotten back!! He raised a little hell every now and again but he was a heck of a coach and he made the kids feel like they were somebody not his whipping post!!!

Nothing against coach Jewell but we'll keep ours.

I seriously doubt anyone from the Tri County area would take Jewell or Farris. Maybe Lynn Camp but I know they would be hesitant. Anyone from this area knows exactly how they are. Our local rivals don't want him to leave Corbin and are chomping at the bits to play us. I honestly think you could poll the players and 80% would want a change. The 20% that wouldn't are the ones who get the majority of the carries or their dads who play poker with Willard. If Willard likes the dad they play if Willard doesn't like them they get screwed over. Trust me....I am not exaggerating. Jewell is also disliked in the classroom. He bullies the boys and caters to the cute girls. Ask any student who has had him or currently has him. I beg Mc Neel to just ask the kids. No need for threads and parent input....just ask the kids. That's who it should be all about anyhow...the kids!

Corbin threw 3 screens for 5 yards. Corbin tried time and time again to get the ball to the TE. You sure you watched this game?

Corbin has not tried to pass to a TE all year. The passes they tried where when it was too late it was obvious passing situations. We were out coached and out played no atter how you look at it!!! Look the people from Corbin that know the kids and Jewell have been watching this go on for years. It's been real bad the last 3-4 we are not just saying this because of what happened in the Wayne game or the bell game he's ran his course we need a change!!!
#87
I'm talking about a screen to the RB leaking out of the backfield, not the WR type screen that everyone in the stadium knows is coming. They try to hit the TE on the post pattern, not quick slants.
#88
TE Waggle plays would have really helped Corbin.
Assuming Corbin could keep pressure off Taylor long enough for him to roll out, most defenses wouldnt have been ready for it. Its especially good when you have a fast TE. High school teams have always struggled with stopping it.

Did Waddle play or was he done for the season ??????

Corbin is not going to fire Jewell for having 80 kids out, being an excellent Biology teacher, and going 9-3 including 2 losses against an excellent Wayne County team. Corbin should be very good next year with a senior laden team.
