Madison Southern 41 Harlan Co 28
#1
Good hard fought game. Madison Southern led for much of the game, but Harlan Co. just could not stop Damien Harris. This may have been Tom Larkey's worst called game of his career. Madison Southern versus Pulaski Co. for the Regional Title.
#2
You have a total yardage on Harris?

Congrats to Madison Southern on the victory.
#3
At least 200...we left Harlan ALIVE!!!

I know that the Harlan County faithful will probably jump all over this but, I want to quote one of my posts from the prediction thread because after I posted it, you would have thought that I knew absolutely nothing about what I was saying based on the reaction from some HC fans.

"Madison Southern has very good chance to win this game and I think they will unless Harlan County has changed their game plan towards running teams. The stats speak for themselves. In the 8 games that Harlan County has won, they have given up an average of 31 rushing yards per game with no opponent getting more than 89 rushing yards. In the three games that Harlan County has lost, they have given up an average of just over 200 rushing yards per game. Last time I checked, Damien Harris is averaging about 230 rushing yards a game. So Harlan County better make sure that Damien Harris doesn't get his if they expect to win this game."

Damien Harris is the real deal. Congrats to Madison Southern. Congrats to Bears on a fine season.
#6
Congratulations to southern. Very solid team on defense, great tailback over 300 yards rushing, legit div. 1 HC had opportunities but couldn't convert. Credit eagle Defense! I like crow but had rather had eagle. It was not to be. Great game plan by Southern. Harris left, Harris right , middle, sweep etc, etc. the kid Is a great player. I wish he would consider UK! Any way safe travels MS and good luck in the regional. I will go on record and say MS wins!
#7
Pulaski will win again this time at home. PC 27 Mad Southern 21. Gonna take more than Harris against this team.
#8
Harlan apparently under estimated Damien Harris.. Uh 354 and 6tds.. Uh he is really good. MS controlled this game from the start. Harlan Co has a GREAT facility but wasn't to be tonight for the Bears. HC did have chances but didn't do anything with them. Not a very good game from Tom tonight. This is gonna sting for a while for HC.

MS v PC next week for a rematch is gonna be a dandy!
#9
Congrats Blackbears on a great season.... No matter what you all never gave up and you kept fighting... Nothing to hang your head about. You lost to a great team and a great running back in Harris...That kid is the real deal... Work hard in the off season and come back prepared...Looking forward to next season for ya...

I don't think HC underestimated Harris. He's just that good, too many shoestring tackles, we weren't bringing him down. Second to the last drive HC finally opened up the pass game and all I could think was where was that the whole game. No matter what HC played till the last second. Hit the weightroom boys get ready for next season. To the seniors, best of luck from here on out!
#13
I said yesterday that if Harris got through the line Harlan County could not catch him and it happen. cant look ahead and I also said that one Pulaski or Harlan County would get beat tonight. This shows us how good is eastern Kentucky Football?? and whos next to go down? I from eastern kentucky but were a little overated this year all the teams are.
#14
Harlan County's primary, secondary, and tertiary goals entering next season has to be to get as close to having platoon football as possible. The number of players going both ways has been a major hindrance to them all season IMHO and one of the key reasons they struggled to stop the run in their losses.

Conditioning, conditioning, conditioning.... depth, depth, depth

Congrats to Madison Southern. Damien Harris is the real deal. Proud of the way the Bears never gave up.

To the seniors, you've given Harlan County much to be proud of during your tenure. Never lost a district game in 4 years, were in three region championships, winning two regional championships, made it to the semi state finals last year and have been a pleasure for us fans to watch grow up. Best of luck in your future.

To the Black Bear underclassmen, you know what it takes to be a winner. Rest up, heal up, and get back in the weight room this off season and get back to work.

Congratulations to Madison Southern on a great victory tonight. It was a messy messy evening, but the football was great!!! Also, met some really nice folks at halftime from Madison Southern while we all tried to dry out!!! Damien Harris is the real deal!! I watched him carefully after the game when the kids met for the handshake. He was extremely nice and gracious! I appreciated him and ALL the kids from MS as they made their way through the handshake line. I felt as though they appreciated the effort and emotion from the Bears tonight.

I was surprised at Madison Southern's following!! Great fan base! They brought at least ten times more fans than Perry Central did; I was pleasantly surprised.

So good luck Eagles in your quest for the state. Good luck Damien Harris, I truly hope your are wildly successful.

This Senior class for the Black Bears is so very special, and so loved by their peers and by this fan. I love you guys, and I will miss the football that you produced this season!! I am SO PROUD of how hard you guys fought and never gave up....These kids fought til the last second and gave everything they had!!! Great great effort!!!

Good luck to my Seniors, and God bless you in your future.

Less than 50 for the game.

Demarcus ware Wrote:GUT i always try to give you a benefit of a doubt, but it's hard man when you say beatdown, but it is your opinion and you will just have to own it after this game. After watching HC put up 550 yards last night, and the way the Defense is playing, i'm not so sure i would count HC out, even if it is Harris coming to town, like i said he will get his, but he won't beat HC all by himself. This will be a good game but in the end HC still wins in the trenches, just to physical for MS AGAIN....

Hoot Gibson Wrote:Tom Larkin teams have a long history of not letting one-dimensional teams beat them. If MS does not have a good second option, then their playoff run is about to end. The Bears don't have to shutdown Harris, they just need to slow him down and wear him down. Harris will not beat HC by himself, although he came close to beating Pulaski County without much help, based on the thread from that game.

redstorm Wrote:He will be hit like never before!

Hoot Gibson Wrote:Harlan County has lost three games to teams with a combined record of 32-1, and the lone loss among those three teams was JC's win over Belfry. The football experts who have crowned Pulaski County King of Mountain football should take those facts into account before predicting that any lesser team is going to blow out the Black Bears. Neither Madison Southern nor Pulaski County have played a schedule comparable to Harlan County's.

Well, JC turned out to be tough! They finally played somebody...

RunItUpTheGut Wrote:The mythical King of the Mountains crown is deinitely what teams are worried about in the playoffs :biglmao:

Hell, PC shouldnt even be considered a moutain team.
I think both teams arent worried about how good teams east of I75 are, and they both probably dont really care who anyone has ranked number one.

HC blew there chance against JC and Belfry. PC and MS are two completely different teams that do not resemble those two in any shape, form, or fashion.

Hoot Gibson Wrote:Neither PC nor MS have played a team as good as any of the ones that have beaten HC. HC has ended Pulaski's season in convincing fashion since 2010. You have been touting Pulaski as world beaters all season long but I seriously doubt that they have made up the 34 point gap between them and Harlan County since last season - but nobody will know for sure until they play each other. Harlan County would have been unbeaten if they had played HC's schedule but Larkey decided to upgrade the schedule this season. I think that his decision will pay off but we will soon see.
Hoot Gibson Wrote:Well, if Madison Southern puts a running clock on Harlan County early in the 2nd Quarter, then I will concede that both PC and MS would have a good shot at beating Johnson Central. But, except for scheduling three teams that are better than any team on either Madison Southern's or Pulaski County's schedule and losing those games, I don't see where much has changed since last season when Harlan County won the regional title. They were favored to repeat this season before losing to Belfry and they are peaking as the playoffs start.

What has changed at Pulaski County and Madison Southern to make you believe that both teams have leapfrogged Harlan County this season? Are the coaches different or are they using radically different offenses?

RunItUpTheGut Wrote:I didnt say MS would put a running clock on them.
I think MS wins in a very close game.
I do however think PC would beat HC by 2-3TD's.

I guess we will find out over the next two weeks

Hoot Gibson Wrote:You have been saying that Pulaski is the best team in eastern Kentucky all season. The HC-JC game had a running clock early in the 2nd quarter. Unless MS or PC dominates HC, your season long claim that PC is the best team in eastern Kentucky will remain baseless. Looking at the scores involving common opponents, I see nothing to suggest that PC is a 2 or 3 TD favorite over PC. They have just played a weaker schedule than Harlan County, that's all.

That does not mean that your prediction will not come true, just that it has no rational basis. There is nothing wrong with wishful thinking but there is no need to pretend that it is something else. :biglmao:

UH OH...

RunItUpTheGut Wrote:No it wont. There two totally different teams. I liken Pulaskis offensive strategy to that of Highlands, and we all know Highlands will beat JC with ease. I am in no way saying PC is highlands or as good, but lets face it, JC and PC hasnt faced a solid throwing or dual threat QB yet this year, and neither has HC.

HC stands a much better chance at beating MS than they do PC.

Hoot Gibson Wrote:Is Pulaski running a different offense than the one that resulted in convincing losses, one of which was a shutout, the past three seasons? Highlands has hammered most of the type of teams that you described over the past few years. Teams that play a very physical style and run right at them, like Johnson Central does, have given them problems. Covington Catholic will not stop JC's offense and if JC wins, neither will Highlands.

As for Madison Southern, if the posters who have described Madison Southern as having a one-man offense are correct, HC will roll. Larkey has a long history of shutting down playoff teams' primary weapons, including several great Bell County running backs. He will make somebody besides Harris beat the Black Bears.

Believe in Mr. Harris now?

RunItUpTheGut Wrote:Good luck tonight all.

Im leaving out now and wont be back until i come to collect crow.

Have fun and stay warm. If cold, find a spot between all of the blackbear mothers on here. Its nice and cozy in that den.

That's about like saying if they let the other team score more points they will probably lose. Harlan County had the top running defense in 5A through the first 11 games. Harris is just that good. I had him with 341 yards.

Since i watched Mr Harris make Whitley already bad defense look like a bunch of 3rd and 4th graders, and seeing how much HC struggled with teams like JC and Belfry, who are not as good, I thought it would be a long night.

Im kind of surprised HC kept it this close. I called a two TD game, and it was, but MS had plenty of oppertunities to pull away but HC kept fighting back.

Ive been calling for a PC-MS regional championship for months (YES HDE, I WAS CORRECT. THANK YOU) and now it finally comes true.
21-18 the last time these two met up. PC 12-0. MS 11-1 with the only loss being to PC.

Good luck to both of these team.
Ive been saying it all year, and im still saying it. PC goes to state!

The way it sounded on the radio, the coach didnt want to overuse him.
Had he got 10-15 more touched, he could of had well over 500.

He was GONE.

And BTW, yes i still believe PC is the region favorite and MS will beat Harlan County to play them in the region championship...

Madison Southern is 10-1, unless I looked at the schedule wrong. I think they'll win next week.

Harris is proving he is one of the best backs to ever play in Kentucky. Like to see him and Sindelar match up next year. Southern and Caldwell would bring a lot of fans to see these two kids.

Proud of the Black Bears Fight they were still in it 3rd and 9 down 6 little over a minute to go before Harris broke another!

The best game I've watched this season.
