14th Region predictions
#61
[quote=jacobcody2]I have heard everybody say that Knott county is getting new players coming in this year. But I have not heard anybody mention any names. Like they have with Cordia. I don't think Knott County will have any new players this year. People are just spreading rumors. I have heard rumors that they are getting a big player from the 15th region and a guard from central ky. But no names[/QU

Cordia- Malik Hines- Two Canadian players that were ruled ineligible last season(Felix Frimpong, Fritz Lucien)

Knott- Rumored to have Quentin Goodin from Taylor County and Shane Hall from Johnson Central to be coming.

I know for a fact all three Cordia players are there and registered for next school year. No idea about the two Knott transfers.

Quentin Goodin has already stated that he's staying put at Taylor County.

Well, this is obviously a biased ranking. No way Owsley is better than Letcher Central, Breathitt Co, and Estill Co.

#70
Solid picks Curve, I agree.
#71
I know we can't take much from summer ball but Leslie beat Owsley handily. And also beat buckhorn, and lost to breathitt on a shot a the buzzer. The only other team they played in the 14th was JC i believe and they beat them by 30+ They are young, but will be much more competitive than assumed by most.

Does not matter the 14TH will fizzle in game one of the Sweet 16

Well, I am glad you know this. Since you can predict the future, please tell us all what region will be drawn to play against the 14th region in the Sweet 16?

Just like they did the last 2 years..OH WAIT...
#76
Why did Denny Fugate go back to Cordia and leave Perry Central?
#77
It really doesn't matter about the other teams it is a four team race
1 Knott Central
2 Perry Central
3 Hazard
4 Cordia (Could possible be the team to beat after eligibility rulings)
#78
1.Perry Central
2.Knott Central
3.Cordia
4.Hazard
5.Breathitt.

Subject to change after eligibility rulings

Perry , KCC and Cordia would be my top three with KCC probably being slightly favored since they are the defending champs. Saw all three of these teams this summer and was impressed.

If Cordia gets all their players eligible then the Lions will be number 1 team in the 14th. And possibly by a good margin.
When you have a front court of 7', 6'9, 6'6 that can actually play, well size does matter. This new kid from Henry Clay could be the push to the top that they need. And from what I hear they would have a deep bench.

I am sure they are some sleepless nights in the King family right now lol!! ??

Anyone who puts Cordia behind PCC or KCC is crazy enough. But putting them below Hazard? You're just insane.
#83
You could not beat Perry last year at Perry and with addition of the 2 new guys I dont see anyone beating them this year at Home and the problem for the 14th region is the region at Perry so I take Perry if they can get out of Hazard in the district. They be a lot of playing above the rim at Perry this year.
#84
Knott #1 imo they will when the regional again by beating out cordia in championship game. but i dont think all cordias player will get to play this year!

LeeCoUKFan Wrote:I would probably put Lee Co in a similar place. Perhaps ahead of Jenkins and Jackson City but, I would say all three are close to even. Lee Co as far as talent goes, has a very good team but, they have absolutely terrible chemistry and that combined with a new head coach with a career winning percentage of .345 basically spells disaster IMO. I really hope that I am wrong but, it looks to be the worst season record wise since before Coach Wright's tenure.

you honestly have no idea what your talking about. lee co does not have bad team chemistry at all! so get your facts straight and you should really change your name because your not a lee co fan.. at least not a loyal one.

From what I'm hearing Cordia has all their players eligible except for Himes. If they can get him eligible they are going to be very difficult to beat this year. I realize Knott has Evan Hall and Perry has Justin Johnson, who both have good size, but Cordia's front line is going to be BIG. They have 4 or 5 bigs compared to the other teams having to rely on one player with size. That's hard to overcome. And with Cunningham at guard they have a guy that can get these kids the ball.
But the key is Himes. They need him to be at the top.
They will also need unbiased officials that don't have an agenda. I thought Cordia got hosed last year when they played Knott in the All A region tournament. Just my opinion as a neutral observer, and most the people sitting in the area of the gym where I was at were not fans from either school but had the same view as me. This year Cordia's going to be very good but it doesn't matter how much talent you have if you have one walk right after another called, and many of them wiping off scored baskets, while at the same time ignoring fouls and walks on the other team, commonly known as no calls.

Sounds like playing at Perry Central when they bring their pet referees in from Owsley County, both boys and girls.

OrangenowBlue Wrote:Sounds like playing at Perry Central when they bring their pet referees in from Owsley County, both boys and girls.

Let me run this by you: Over 80% of the referees in the 14th region are located in the 53rd and 54th districts.
The 56th has 1 from Owsley, 1 from Powell, 0 from Lee, and 0 from Estill (after A.J. Davis quit). The 55th has about 8 from Wolfe and Breathitt combined.
All the power and control of referees has always rested in the 53rd or 54th. Right now it is centered in Knott County with Tommy Hall as the assigning secretary. Before that it was in Perry County for many years.
If you don't like the one referee from Owsley County then get Tommy to send you one of your boys in your back door. You've certainly got plenty to pick from. Don't blame the 56th District with our 2 officials. If it wasn't for Wolfe's 6 refs in the 55th there would hardly be any officials north of the Perry County line.
Why is this? From what I've been told most of them don't feel like they get a fair shake from the power center in the southern part of the region and they don't stay in the association very long. It's been that way for a long time, probably all the way back to the 1920's and 1930's in the infant days of organized high school sports. And it hasn't changed since.

Cordia, perry, and knott where all top teams last year. With additions they will be the top teams again. Right now it's basically a coin flip. If cordia has a season like they had last year and can build on to it, they definitely should be in the talk.
