Looks like Clay's head of recruiting should get a raise!

Not that hard when one is dating the coaches daughter, one has ties to Clay County, and the other is the son of a legend. Not quite Cordia even if we have the same colors.
I disagree with alot of the posts of the region top 10. Several people have Harlan and Barbourbville in the top 10? This is very inaccurate. Harlan and Barbourville both got man handled in the Summer ball by the mountain lions of Pineville, Which is said considering Pineville is losing 5-6 Seniors and only returning one starter. Pineville also only lost to Harlan County by 2 at the camp, which is surprising, Pineville is alot more atheltic than they have been in previous seasons and should deserve a low spot in the top 10.

IMO
1. Clay
2. Knox
3. Jackson
4. Bell
5. Harlan Co
6. North Laurel
7. South Laurel
8. Middlesboro
9. Pineville
10. Corbin
All I gotta say is clay county is loaded.....that's the bottom line there is nothing else to say....Clay will have a tough schdule (WYMT Classic, Sunshine Classic in Daytona Beach, Toyota Classic at Scott County, Perry Central, etc. The district and region teams are going be a different type of competetion for the tigers. I don't think any team's beside's Jackson, Knox, Bell will even play close to the Clay County from what I'm hearing around town and actually knowing the players and playing golf with there dads and coaches.....we'll find out in december.
Is Rob Marcum back out at Big Hickory? I was wondering if he'd get down there and join Glenn Gray, JD Smith and Trey Bowling. CC Tigers I believe you are correct. The schedule should push the boys and get them ready to make a run when they get to Rupp. How's Todd Sr short game? I hear he's been grinding down at the Hick with Mark Jackson, Bobby Marcum and the crew. Wonder what Coach Keith is saying about this team.
We aren't playing in the Classic....
I think its too early to just say Clay has the region wrapped up...lol. They have talent, but they haven't really played together. You have a lot of new pieces, egos, etc.

Can anyone confirm Clay County got a new transfer?
Sorry correction clay is not playing in the wymt mountain basketball classic.....
Clay Co. would be weak this year without the North Laurel boys. Those two make Clay favorites but let's not warm the bus for Rupp in October. Jackson had you beat at your place last year until Mcdaniel got to the free throw line 20 times in the 4th qtr. ( not taking anything from Mcdaniels, he knows he's gonna get those calls and he does a good job at drawing contact.) At Jackson, our center goes down first play of the second qtr and you still only win by a couple points. Bell Co. was another tough game for you and so forth. Allen and House are great additions, but do they really make you guys that much better than last years team? You lost some quality players.
I think a sleeper team could be Harlan City. They have some good experienced older guys inside to go along with Miller. They are probably 6-5 and 6-5 inside. They have good guards, but are young and inexperienced. That will be the key is their back court.

They do have a mix of older guys and younger talent. I believe they could make a run at the All "A" regional championship. They go about 8 or 9 kids deep. Should be a fun team to watch this year, something Harlan hasn't had since the turn of the century.
Harlan definately upgraded with the pick up of Tyler Miller. Very Athletic player and will be fun to watch. However I dont really understand why he would leave the better team?
The Miller kid helps, but this team still only wins 10 or 12 games. He is really all they have. He is a nice player (should play small college somewhere), but needs guys around him. I've watched him for several years and he requires great guard play, which I don't see Harlan having. He isn't a banger either. I don't see Harlan having a banger to compliment him in the post. From what I can see and from what I have heard they don't have a point guard, which will be the single biggest problem for them. Good teams have to have someone to run the show or guide the ship, so to speak, and they don't have that. The bottom line for Harlan is Miller will post good stats against weaker competition on their schedule, but will struggle against the better teams. I don't see them winning more than 12 games. They will lose to Harlan County or Bell county in the first round of the district tourny.
Top players in the 13th region (No particular order)
Knox Central- Matthew Barger [Can get to the rim at anytime, needs attitude adjustment
Barbourville- Alexander Phipps [Hardly misses, needs to work on taking it to the basket]
Clay- Tyler McDaniel[All around athlete, Can do it all]
Jackson- Jordan Fox [Speedy guard that can score and pass, needs attitude adjustment]
Harlan City- Tyler Miller [6'8 that plays like a guard]
Harlan County- Caldwell [Big strong but can also shoot the ball]
Williamsburg- Skylar[Talented guard that can shoot the lights out]
Bell county- Tyler Potter [Can flat out score]
Pineville- Cody Collett- [Can handle the ball, shoot and score at will, needs to work on defense]
Middlesboro- Austin Poindexter[Athletic guard that can do it all]

Sorry if I have left anyone out like I said, I havent had the chance to see any other teams!
As far as the ALL "A" Regional. No One will beat Jackson County. Period! In fact, Jackson County is probably 25 points better than Harlan. I would still rank Pineville and Barbourville ahead of Harlan also. I rank Harlan 4th best class A school in the region and I rank them somewhere between 9-12 in the region. I think they will finish 4th in the district. They could push Middlesboro for third, but they don't have a player as good as Foister. Poindexter is every bit as effective as Miller too. I'm just not buying into this hype that Harlan is going to be any better. They're limited at guard play, and Miller as absolutely ALL they have inside. I don't want to hear anything about 6'5 and 6'5 either because the other kid is very limited.
Should be interesting to watch then, Professor33.
Anyone know when any panoramas start.
Clay

Nice to see Barbourville actually mentioned in this thread lol. All jokes aside this Barbourville team will resemble lasts year very much. They return 3 starters in Alexander Phipps, Tanner Moore, and Jason Mills and have 3 other seniors as well as junior Brandon Gray who transferred back from Knox. When this group was sophomores, they went undefeated at the JV level throughout summer ball and the regular season, but JV is still JV and matters very little. Hopefully this team can make a run at All "A" regional as they are the host, I think, and maybe compete for the district championship. They are not a threat to region IMO as I see them just outside the top 10 at this point but anything is possible in the 13th region. I'm just glad the region is going to be back at the arena this year!! No disrespect to Harlan County as they have a beautiful campus and facilities.

Goodluck Tigers this upcoming year!!
I agree, I don't think harlan will be much better. & Pineville definately ranks above barbourville and harlan. JD always does a great job with his kids. The Collett boy should have a breakout year being the only true scorer Pineville has. & I (think) he is just a junior
Pineville could be pretty competitive, but I don't think they are "definitely" ahead of Harlan or Barbourville. They lost a lot of size and their JV team wasn't that great. I saw Harlan beat them at Pineville last season.
If Pineville's guards are shooting well they could be dangerous, but if not they will struggle. They don't have much, if any, depth.
J.D. does do a great job with what he has, so I won't count them out, but I don't see them being as good as last year unless some players improve a lot.
Pineville went 3-0 against Harlan last year? They beat them twice at Harlan and once at Red Bird in the All A tourny
Harlan lost a whole lot off of an 8 or 9 win team. How they could suddenly be in contention in the 13th region is lost on me, unless the Miller kid is the second coming, which he's not. I've said it before, he is a nice player, not a huge difference maker. Judging by what they have coming back he will have to do everything. Guard play will hurt, and there is no one to really compliment Miller in the post. Pineville and Barbourville, especially Barbourville should handle Harlan pretty easily. By the way, I think Pineville had a few guys missing when Harlan beat them this summer. Bottom line, judging by what I saw this summer I rank the region as follows...Clay, Knox, Jackson, Bell, Harlan County. Class A...Jackson Co, Barbourville, Pineville, Williamsburg, Harlan.
I was talking about JV, but I looked it up and Pineville won 39-30 at Pineville, so it was my mistake.
I guess I remember thinking that was a moral victory. Ford, Longworth, Ledbetter, Collett and Robbins scored all the points for Pineville (three juniors, two sophomores last year) in the JV, which is the probable starting lineup this year for the varsity. Harlan basically had a middle school team playing with eighth graders Busroe, Wilson and Saylor scoring all but two points.

Pineville won 67-62 in overtime in the varsity game. Pineville lost five starters from that team. Harlan lost three starters and two reserves, plus they added a good player, so I would say Harlan has the advantage there.

Jackson County should be the favorite in the All A. After that, I think Middlesboro, Barbourville, Harlan, Williamsburg and Pineville could all be very competitive.
i don't understand how ppl in here saying bell just got tyler potter did any forget how tyler potter foul out last year and jake patterson took over and beat harlan county and they have a good young kid at center they got every piece u need to win region and dense depth on bench

Nobody is saying anything bad about Bell County. Obviously the Potter kid is getting a lot of attention and deservedly so. Its too soon to tell, but you would think after being very competitive last year and losing nothing I heard that they will be in the hunt.
JD Strange is worth 10-15 points in most games. He's the most under rated coach in the 13 region.
pineville going be pineville come out in district upset sum team i don't see how ppl saying mboro they got two players with varsity experience
