Lynch East Main has 4 Titles that should be in the Mountain Region instead of Lou. Metro.... Lynch is about as far from Louisville Metro as you can get HAHA

All the SKY championships should fall under Mountains as Corbin clearly consider themselves a mountain team

Ft. Campbell/Franklin Simpson have several titles that should be moved from Lou. Metro to WKY

Mt. Sterling is not Mountains...it would either be EKY or Lex Metro..probably EKY

Etown should be taken out of WKY and added to Lou. Metro
#3
Instead of Mountains should just call it EKY.

Revised Totals Should Be:
Lou. Metro- 58
NKY-52
WKY-36
CKY/Lex Metro- 29
EKY- 24

Judging off this...geographical size... population density.... I would say the rankings would be pound for pound:
1. NKY
2. Lou. Metro

Then the other three regions are about even with WKY getting the slight edge despite by far the largest land area and substantially more larger population bases (Paducah, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Hopkinsville, and Henderson). CKY/Lex Metro would probably be last pound for pound.

The other list that is important when judging is this:

Lexington-Fayette, KY 296,545

Fayette, KY 286,518

Louisville, KY 262,764

Bowling Green, KY 56,598

Owensboro 55,745

Covington, KY 43,082

Richmond, KY 33,458

Hopkinsville 32,095

Florence, KY 28,381

Henderson, KY 27,952

Frankfort, KY 27,382

Nicholasville 27,001

Jeffersontown 26,442

Pleasure Ridge Park 26,433

Paducah, KY 25,720

Elizabethtown, KY 24,533

Valley Station 23,531

Radcliff 22,253

Independence, KY 22,104

Georgetown, KY 22,071

Ashland, KY 21,287

Newburg, KY 21,162

Madisonville, KY 18,971

St. Matthews, KY 18,750

Fern Creek 18,325

Okolona, KY 18,261

Erlanger 17,259

Fort Campbell, KY 17,198

Winchester, KY 16,766

Murray, KY 16,554

Shively 16,458

Newport, KY 15,863

Danville, KY 15,643

Highview 15,547

Fort Thomas 15,270

Fort Campbell North 15,172
#4
Lynch would be a Mountain School not Louisville Metro.
#5
Of that list of population bases above:
Lou. Metro -13
WKY- 8
NKY-7
CKY/Lex Metro- 7
EKY-1

Taking a ratio of Titles : Population Bases

EKY: 24.00
NKY: 7.43
WKY: 4.50
Lou: 4.46
CKY/Lex: 4.14

Actually the case for EKY looks pretty good when you consider population
#6
So eastern Ky has more championships per student?
#7
Iam4thecats Wrote:So eastern Ky has more championships per student?

Per major population Base (cities/towns greater than 15,000)....

The true breakdown would be 1 of 2 things..but I dont have nearly enough time for that:

1. Total Population of the Region: Titles Won
2. Total Enrollment of Schools: Titles Won

Even then both are subjective as Population and Enrollment has fluctuated over the course of the data period. I think it would be a very safe assumption though that EKY schools have more titles in comparison to enrollment or population though.. with NKY (smallest geographical area and a population that boomed later) would be a clear 2nd.
#8
Another stat that can be used is Championship Diversity Per Region.

Instead of an entire region getting credit for the spoils of select teams... the ratio of titles won to the number of teams to win it:

From Best to Worst:
EKY: 2.18
CKY: 2.64
WKY: 3.00
NKY: 5.20
Lou: 5.27

I have also noticed some other teams not included... I am sure the data will need slightly reworked

I wonder if anyone has the time to do a breakdown by the 16 basketball regions?
#12
This list was given to me from a former coach I have noticed a lot of holes since I posted it sorry about that guys I will revise and correct the list. If I have time I may break it down by the bball regions.

I also questioned some of his groupings but it is a nice mostly complete list.

EKU you are a stat guru. Thanks for your time and attention .

This will make for some good trivia. Oh to be a fly on the wall and listen to some of the arguments that will stem from this thread Confusednicker:!

No problem..I hope there is someone out there who is willing to take it the extra steps I am not HAHA

Would love to see this thing broken all the way down and discussed.

I still contend that in the grand picture I would go NKY #1.. Louisville #2... but I am starting to think pound for pound EKY has a stiffer claim than some think..and WKY surprised me once I started looking at populations and how many of the State's Largest Cities/Towns were in that region.

As expected...not sure this could ever truly come to a head with a consensus agreement.... lots of variables and things you can't measure with stats... but a very interesting topic nonetheless

Note to self. Never get into an argument with EKUAlum05.

Thanks for the time and effort you put into that EKU.

I would submit that Bardstown is closer to CKY than Louisville Metro.

Just a few miles difference and Bardstown has more in common IMO with CKY towns like Harrodsburg, Danville than with L'ville.

Just a thought. Great study EKU.

Iam4thecats Wrote:So eastern Ky has more championships per student?

Nope, because they are only competing against schools with the same number of students....

Maybe EKU could do that for us. Based on student size, what is the geographical breakdown of championships. That would be more telling to me.

Iam4thecats Wrote:I wonder if anyone has the time to do a breakdown by the 16 basketball regions?

Hopefully not on this football board !
#22
This list cannot be correct. I know Caldwell Co has at least 2. I know Fort Campbell has at least 3. Those are west teams. I think Heath has 2 instead of 1 listed.

Thank you guys for the info and especially thank you EKU.

I will combine it all to make a kick a:ref2: list

I Broke it down by Basketball 16 regions because it is a more zoomed in way to look. Can you guys review this and make sure your schools titles are there and that they are in the correct regions. Also in your opinion which regions can be grouped into 8 separate regions and what you want them called.

Thanks BGR members.

and the 7th region has 51

The Elkhorn that is listed for modern day Frankfort, is actually Elkhorn City High. They are now part of East Ridge H.S. in the 15th Region (59th District).

Pikeville needs to be added to the list for Region 15, 59th District 1987, 88, 89
