Open Jobs?
#1
Week 9 of football, what is the rumor mill saying about jobs??
#2
Here are my uneducated guesses:

Apollo
Hoptown
LCA
GRC
Rock
Oldham Co
Ryle
Atherton
Moore
Southwestern
Whitley
Barren Co
Campbellsville
Hopkins Central
South Laurel
Cov. Holy Cross
Marshall County
Todd Co Central

Why would GRC be looking for a coach? They just hired Collins like two years ago.

What about Montgomery County? With the administration firing just about all the previous head coaches over the other sports over there, could Gooch be on his way out as well? If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure I remember someone saying that he would be gone after this year
#4
South Laurel just hired coach and he is doing a great job with off field issues. He will build a good program!!!

Without naming names , what are the off field issues he is dealing with? I don't think many people realize what goes on behind the scenes at a High School football program. Wins and losses aren't a coaches only job. Especially in the first couple of years he is at a school.
#6
I hear the young coach at South Laurel is doing an outstanding job. Where did he come from?
#7
Hop-town- heard the new AD is going let Clark go

Oldham Co- heard Brown has nothing on the underclass men teams and is going to bow out without hesitation.... High profile job because of the Lagrange politics

Atherton- hear the admin really like walker, an atherton grad, even though he couldn't buy a win

Moore- I know of some big high- view baptist people that will be licking their chops for this

Bullitt central- coach may be retiring

Seneca- principal asked a friend of mine if he knew anybody to replace Boyd, they finally got their first win from a decent PRP, but I doubt that's enough to save his job
#8
LCA would be a great place to get started.
#9
I've been hearing that Chapman is gone @ Pike Central after season...But I've heard that every year he's been up there...
#10
I thought LCA had a good athlete pull..... I saw them do some 7on 7 games and they looked fairly athletic
#11
They just hired Mike Whitaker as OC and the rumor mill was HC in waiting at Montgomery County
#12
Coach Burchette at Powell Co is pondering Retirement, could be a good job for a young coach
#13
Any updates on possible openings?
#14
South Laurel has taken a big step forward this year. This mess was created by the last staff. It will take time to fix the Cardinals.
#15
If Chapman leaves Pike Central you will end up with KM. So it can get worse!!!!
#16
I was shocked when PCC hired Chapman in the first place. He was known to have temper when we was at Pikeville throwing chairs and things.

I don't think he's a bad football coach but not a man I would want my kids to play for or to represent my school. I probably would've let him go when all that about recruiting kids came out. It totally erased the best season PC had in their history.

Apollo- I dont know enough about the situation, but two years isnt long enough to give anybody to turn around a program.

Hoptown- I think his job is safe. The first year was disastrous, but as they say, before bad gets better...bad has to hit rock bottom first and that's what happened the first year. Last year was an improvement, this year has been, too.

LCA- Unless Graham bows out himself, 1 bad year isnt enough to do him him in.

GRC- See Hoptown, but this is only his 2nd year. 1 game last year, 2 wins so far this year.

Rock- Dont know enough about it.

Whitley- I dont see it unless Black chooses to get out on his own. They are a true "county" school in the heart of rural America. Talent cycles every year. You can only coach what you have available. Coaches cant fix genetics.

Campbellsville- Not happening. Their HC, Dale Estes will be there as long as he wants. He does a good job. Campbellsville is a product of the 6 Class system. Campbellsville cant find anybody their size to play them in the reg season, then comes district play and they usually fair pretty well. Their non district schedule is full of 4A and 3A schools.

Todd County Central- Those in Elkton better be happy with what they have. Jones had a good year I think his 2nd year in. This is a program that had a lot of success back in the 70's and they usually have talent, however, something BIG has hit that school....it's called Soccer & football has taken an extreme hit. If this job was to come open, people better take a long look at two things:

1) Youth Soccer vs. Youth Football
2) Do you really want to live in Elkton, KY

Marshall County- Not sure what's up there. Barnard has a very good track record before coming there, but they've never seemed to get over .500 and I know they are struggling this year. His son is the starting QB and is a JR, so if he was to resign, I dont see it happening for at least another year.

Barren County- They have made strides. Stick and stay the course with Esters and the current staff. If not, good luck finding anybody that wants to get in that district/region. No way out of that.

Hopkins Central- Marshall Enoch, who just took over this year has a great track record of doing well at rural schools with little talent (always has them around .500). Unless he gets out on his own after year one, this job wont be coming open.

There are a lot of good coaches across the state at bad programs that cant and wont ever win consistantly due to factors that are way out of their control.

Any updates on the situation at Southwestern? Lots of rumors floating around about Chuck Smith, formerly of Boyle County, checking into the program. Any truth to that?
#19
Fairviews will be open soon.
#20
Can't imagine stakeholders are happy at 4-4 Calloway County, given that expectations were somewhat higher. I would think Lawson could build that one back up but Murray mopped the floor with them this year. I have not heard anything to suggest Lawson would not return.
#21
Lawson will build that program into a power. This is just year 2. He shall have it fixed by year 4.

I had heard that this could be Burchette's last year at Powell but didn't know if it truly would be or not. Man knows his football.

What about the teams like Lewis, fleming, east carter, west carter, and possibly sheldon clark. Could any of those end up having open spots?? Also, Jenkins, phelps, and prestonsburg.
#24
Im sure you will be able to add Fairview to the list

Dudley Hilton to Whitley Confusednicker:

You can definitely add Fairview to the list now. According to the newspaper, it has been confirmed he resigned, effective at the season's end.

Why would any of these schools be open with the exception of Jenkins or possibly Phelps? Only way any of these teams will be open it will be due to the coach leaving on his own...not due to being fired.
#28
More interesting question to me is which coaches do you see leaving their programs for new opportunities after this season?

Jenkins & Phelps both have 1st year coaches.

Not sure why Prestonsburg would consider a change, they might not have the prettiest record but they are a good team that has potential to make a deep run in the playoffs.

New openings:
Oldham county
Louisville valley
Logan county
Shawnee (rumor)
