Former Player Updates.
#1
Thought this might be a good idea as a thread plus I was curious.
I just wanted to see if anyone had any info on how some of the former KY highschool standouts are fairing at the College level.

Example:

Miles Simpson (former SK standout) Starting for Uk

Patrick Towlrs (highlands) 3rd string QB Uk

Travis Elliott (Ryle) dropped out of WKU in March

Conner Hempel (Ryle) starter at Harvard playing great I will post an article below

JJ Jude (Johnson Central) r-FR doing great for EKU

Please post more Info and how there doing below if you have Any. These are meant to be examples.

In his first start at home, junior quarterback Conner Hempel impressed once again, finding five different receivers for double-digit yardage and ending the day with 296 yards and one touchdown through the air.

At the end of the third quarter, Hempel, under pressure, found senior wideout Ricky Zorn for a 63-yard score, his longest of the season, to put Harvard up, 38-20.

“I saw a better Hempel today,” Brown coach Phil Estes said. “He’s a hell of a quarterback. He’s got great feet. When you give him that much time, he can make plays.”

He will be on National Tv 3 more times this season.

Is Elliott transferring, or giving up the game altogether?

Off the top of my head, Whitley has Cody Jones at UK, who is a senior fullback and has stayed all 4 years after transferring from Morehead State and redshirting a year.
Boston Bryant is starting at Wofford in his freshman season at Defensive End and was just named the freshman of the week in that conference.
There one or two at Cumberland if im not mistaken, and about 4 to 5 others who signed scholarships but have either quit the team or left college all together.

Elliott is down all together last I heard he had joined the Army but got into some trouble. But that is all I had heard. Very sad for a kid with unbelievable talent.

Harvard:
Conner Hempel (Ryle) QB- Jr- starter playing extremely well.

Morehead State:
Tanner Teepen (Ryle) DT- r-So- Starter- Doing well.
Zach Senvisky (Ryle) FS- jr- 2nd team
Chris Fookes (Boone) C- r-so.- Starter in place of injured C
Austin Hollingsworth (highlands) DE- r-so- 2nd teamer but plays a fair amount.

Dayton:
Will Bardo (Highlands) QB- R-Jr- Starter playing well.

Butler:
Brad Weber (Ryle) OT- redshirted

EKU:
Paul Ritter (Cov Cath) DB- r-so. Sees significant special teams play.
Nathan Rawe (NCC). WR/PR- r-sr plays when needed
Chris Kelly (NCC). LB- r-so. Special teams mostly

UC:
Drake Bruns (Highlands) CB- redshirted
Michael Colosimo (Beechwood) QB- r-jr. Doesn't see much of the field.
Adam Dempsey (Highlands) DT- r-Sr- playing great this season starter.
Dominic Mainello (beechwood) OG- r-jr- reserves from what I read.

Uk:
Patrick Toweles (Highlands) QB- r-so- 3rd string
Miles Simpson (SK) LB- junior- starter

Louisville:
Zeke Pike (Dixie Heights) TE- r-so- 2nd string (sad to see this kid didn't make it to the QB he was supposed to be.

These are just some I know of from NKY. I'd be interested if anyone knew if some if the stars translated to NAIA or NCAA I II III and have stayed stars.

Some more quick ones i can think of...

JJ Jude of Johnson Central is at EKU, along with Channing Fugate of Breathitt who transferred there from Tennessee, and I think Caleb Watkins of Corbin is still there as well.
#7
Jude has 61 carries for 363 yards including being named OVC newcomer of the week after the Morehead game. Caleb Watkins has 164 yards on 34 carries.

Lamar Dawson is starting for his third year at linebacker for USC.

I didn't realize that Durham QB [Campbell County] went to TMC. Anyone know if he is seeing time. I might have to catch a game if he is.
#13
Cameron Hansel (SK) Ball State - OG starter.
Jared Bowling (SK) EKU

VanHoose is actually redshirting this season. He got some time last season as a true freshman but Andrew Lloyd, Luke Pray and Jay Wilmott have done all of the kicking this year.

Thanks for clearing that up. Could have sworn I saw his name linked to a kickoff or something in the paper earlier in the season.

I didn't remember seeing him kick any and I went back and double checked and he isn't listed as a participant in any of the box scores. The other kickers are all upper classmen and I think they wanted to put a year between him and the others. He played quite a bit last season and did a nice job.

TNT, I screwed up my last post. It should have read Jordon Hansel Ball state OG starter. I got Hansel brothers confused. Can you fix? Thx.

Logan Johnson of Letcher Co Central is doing a great job this year for Morehead St.

Here are a few for you..
From Collins HS
Branden Cresap is leading Lindsey Willson to a 5-0 start avg nearly 300 yards/game
Tavis Elzy has 10 catches for 254 yards.
Michael Brooks is second on team with 31 tackles.

There are several others from Shelby Co that are out playing....Zac Shipley at Murry, Edwin Thomas at LW, Axline brothers at UT Martin....
Maybe Blue can help me out.
#22
From Somerset:

Billy Roberts has been a starter at guard all 4 seasons he has been at Lindsey Wilson.

Taylor Speaks is a sophomore and has started at long snapper both years at Eastern Kentucky University.

Demetrius Peavy is in his 2nd year at UPike as an offensive lineman.
#23
Timmons at UK is lightning in a bottle. I would not be surprised to see him playing on Sundays in a couple of years.

I looked up the stats for LWC.

Branden Cresap has passed for 1439 and 18 TDs in 5 games.

Tavis Elzy is 2nd on the team in receiving with 10 caches for 254 yards as you said (average of 25.4 yards per catch).

Joseph Fawns is listed 2nd on the depth chart at center.

Here are all the kids from Shelby County on the roster at LWC.

7 Branden Cresap JR QB 6-0 190 Shelbyville, Ky. Martha Layne Collins HS
11 Michael Brooks SO LB 6-1 225 Shelbyville, Ky. Collins HS
36* Cedric Hinkle FR DB 5-9 165 Shelbyville, Ky. Concordia - Alabama
36 Edwin Thomas JR RB 5-8 178 Shelbyville, Ky. Shelby County HS
56 Joseph Fawns SO OL 6-0 270 Shelbyville, Ky. Martha Layne Collins HS
57 Andrew Page SO LB 6-2 220 Shelbyville, Ky. Martha Layne Collins HS
80 Tavis Elzy SO WR 6-0 175 Shelbyville, Ky. Martha Layne Collins HS
81 Matt Page SR WR 6-0 185 Shelbyville, Ky. Shelby County HS
90* Taylor Lay SO P 5-9 165 Shelbyville, Ky. Shelby County HS

At UT-Martin, Ben Axline (Collins) has played in all 4 games and has 1 reception for 10 yards. His older brother Matt (Shelby County) starts at LG for the 3-1 Skyhawks.

I think that Zach Shipley may be redshirting at Murray.

Jacob Hudgens from Shelby County is playing LB at Union College and has 5 tackles.

There could be more that I missed. I know there are quite a few kids from the area playing in college.

Here is a link to a recently posted story regarding Ryle graduate Conner Hempel, senior QB at Harvard.

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/c.../19660873/

and a story from the Boston Globe regarding the Harvard victory over Yale and more on Conner

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/1...story.html

I'd say a great game to end a college and possibly ones football career. Congrats to Conner.

Great story! Congrats to Connor and good wishes to him on his future! People love to talk about how a great it is for a kid to get a free education while playing sports during college. That is true...free is the best price. But, I've heard so much from parents and kids that are actually on athletic scholarships talk about how they have to earn that "free" education when their collegiate athletic careers become more like a job than playing for the love of the sport. It's refreshing to hear of a kid having success in a sport that he plays simply for the love of the sport. A caliber one degree coming from a top tier educational institution doesn't hurt a thing for the kid's future as well. A 27 on an ACT probably wouldn't have gotten Connor into Harvard, but, because he was good at football he was allowed to enroll. THAT is the benefit of playing sports in Ivy League level schools. Sports get you past the application committees.... and that's it. The kid proved he could do it in the classroom as well as on the field the past four years. That is what I call being a TRUE student athlete.
