Doss 33 Central 19
#1
Final

WOW. Guess that means it's Belfry and Wayne County for 3A this year.

33 points is more than Central usually gives up in half a season.

Doss has a good team, but I am a bit surprised that they beat Central. Central seems to be struggling offensively.

You better wait about two weeks from tonight before you make that prediction!!! The Corbin Redhounds have a dog in this fight. Belfry may come out but Wayne is in for a heck of a battle in their district!! Give me two weeks and we will talk again. Hopefully the hounds will be the story of the night!!

I think the title is Belfry's to lose this year.

The way Belfry played last night it may be Bourbon's to lose out of the East

3A is wide open with a lot of teams feeling they have a shot. I wish some of the other classes were this competitive.

Doss quarterback William Maddox didn't play in the season opener against Pleasure Ridge Park, but he made his presence felt Friday night in the Dragons' come-from-behind 33-19 victory at Central.

Maddox passed for three touchdowns and ran 38 yards for another as the Dragons (3-1) completely controlled the second half after Phillip Francis had scored two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game to give the Yellowjackets a quick 12-0 advantage.

"I missed the PRP game because I had to have 10 practices to be eligible to play and I missed one practice," Maddox said.

He and his teammates didn't get rattled when Francis scored on a 2-yard run one minute into the game after his 53-yard run to the 2. Francis scored again on a 31-yard run at the 9:00 mark.

"I just let it blow away and went to the next play," said Maddox, a senior. "Execution was the key to our comeback."

Doss coach LaKunta Farmer was proud of his Class 4-A team's big second-half rally.

"We had to calm down," he said. "This was like a playoff atmosphere to me. Once we got settled we did OK. Our defense played lights out. We played hard as a team, and we supported each other."

Central, which has won three straight Class 3-A titles and five in the last six seasons, fell to 2-2.

Maddox hit three receivers for second-half TDs: Tyler Jefferson, Devonte Moffitt and Dajzon Dukes. The 6-foot-4 Jefferson, a sophomore, went over a defender to grab an 18-yard pass in the end zone to pull Doss within 19-14.

"I just hit a spot and I know they will be there to catch it," Maddox said of the three. "I trust my receivers with all my heart."

"Our receivers and the quarterback have great chemistry," Dukes said. "Maddox knows how to read defenses."

Maddox scrambled for a 38-yard TD run to put the Dragons ahead 20-19.

"It was a pass play, but I saw a blitz and I did what I had to do," he said.

Maddox passed 18 yards to Moffitt for another score that made it 26-19. The Dragons ended the scoring on Maddox's 12-yard TD strike to Dukes with 5:10 left in the game.

Maddox made one crucial mistake when his short pass was intercepted by Royshawn Beason, who returned it 38 yards to the end zone to give the Yellowjackets a 19-7 lead. Central put great pressure on Maddox on that play.

"I was trying to throw the ball away," he said.

Dukes also intercepted two Central passes late in the game. The Yellowjackets, who got 98 yards on 12 carries by Francis, lost four fumbles and the two interceptions.

Early in the third period, Central's punter fumbled the snap, ran left end for a nice gain, then fumbled. Linebacker Ramone Kelly recovered on the Central 15.
