Clay County has two really good players but it is hard to win a regional title if some of those other kids around them do not step up.

Does McDaniels ever pick up a ball in the offseason? I heard he don't play any. That's impressive with him being as good as he is. Is the Farmer kid related to Richie?
I think Bell will be very good also. Nice mix of seniors and young talent as well

Trey is absolutely the son of the Legend Richie. He looks exactly the same except he's about 5 inches taller and probably not quite the ladies man of #32. McDaniel does as Glenn Gray says. When Glenn tells him to pick up a ball he does. Glenn has been his agent since 4th grade at Hacker Elementary when Todd handed him over to him.

The kid never plays and then is the best player when he steps on the court. Haha talent.

I've thought the same thing. It's unusual he can golf all spring, summer and fall and be that good during the season. Wasn't his brother a really good basketball player in middle school and just got away from it for golf in high school?
How did Clay do in the summer without him? Who started?

His brother was a decent player but not the same caliber. According to his twitter McDaniel is ready to get started with bball and join his teammates. Rest of the region better watchout. HDE, what is the deal with Tyler Miller? Is he at Harlan, HC or where? Hard to believe a top 10 player in the region would leave a decent squad for a team that hasn't had success in a long time.

Wondering the same thing about Miller.

Tyler is not at HC but is at H ind.

He's at Harlan.
Harlan County is better than a decent squad. The JV team won the AAU state championship in 2012. Last year's JV team was unbeaten and all of those guys are moving up, along with some really good freshmen (Carmical and Spurlock will be among the top five freshmen in the region). They had a good summer, beating Cordia and Johnson Central among others.

Either way, doesn't make sense.

Whoever let him leave Hiltonhead made a huge mistake IMO

A lot of people think these big time aau players play a lot harder at aau than they play high school. This kid play his heart out for the name on the jersey.

Hes a kid. if he didn't like it there becoming a pro golfer or whatever happens to him can wait.

Miller makes Harlan a team not to sleep on in the region. With Miller at 6'5, they have another kid at 6'7 with a good skill set along with and good young PG and about 4 or 5 real good basketball players. Team to watch come tournament time.

I think getting Miller puts Harlan in the top 10 in the region at the least.

Will anyone in the region have any freshmen that will contribute on varsity? I know Broughton at North will.

Corbin will probably have an 8th grader(Andrew Taylor) that will.

I though they had a big man that would be a 8th grader that would play some varsity this year.

They do have an 8th grader who is around 6'7", not sure he is ready for varsity yet. Taylor plays AAU basketball at the highest level and will be better prepared to compete with high school players.

Corbin looks like they will be down a little, but they are still Corbin. They will find a way to win a lot of games and be a contender. They always do

Spurlock at Harlan County is a freshman and will likely be the one called on to try and fill the void left by Miller's absence. Spurlock is about 6'4 and" and can play anywhere on the court really. Carmical at Harlan County will likely get Varsity minutes as well, at back up point guard.

I can tell you why Miller left HC. He was promised the moon by certain people. AND, I can so a whole lot more about this situation but I won't. He is a kid and I will keep my mouth shut.
09-11-2013, 04:31 PM
I have seen Taylor play a few times, he is the real deal. The big man I thought practiced with the varsity last year.
09-11-2013, 05:22 PM
As far as Miller goes I heard he wanted to play college ball and at his size he wanted to develop his skills on the perimeter. Sounds like he may have went somewhere he can do that. Harlan County has a big emphasis on putting to big men on the block and wearing people out physically. It works well for them but is it the best way to prepare a 6-5 kid for college ball?
09-11-2013, 11:13 PM
There hasn't been a lot of good 6-5 players in Harlan County, so it's kind of rare. Nick Sanford is the last one I remember. He was a four-time All American at LMU. He probably played a little more inside than outside at Cawood but I think he played the wing in college.

From an individual stand point I can see why he might have wanted to leave Harlan County. But you hate to see a kid that leave his friends and the program hes represented all those years unless he is actually moving away. But I don't know the whole situation.
09-12-2013, 11:56 AM
He's come a long way in two years. There wouldn't be a conversation about college basketball if he hadn't toughened up and become such a good rebounder. Playing with a point guard like Tyler Brewer didn't hurt either.
09-12-2013, 02:34 PM
He's a kid, and if he wanted to leave Harlan County it was his choice. Nothing no one can do about it. I say the reason is because of college, so no nasty rumors should be spread.
09-12-2013, 09:45 PM
Miller is a good player, and it should be the kids choice and his choice only. After reading these posts, still have to wonder why a player would leave a 20+ win team last season for a 7 or 8 win team. I do wish him luck in the future.

Have to go with Clay Co. as my #1 team after seeing that McDaniel is back in a tiger uniform. He reminds me of the Cash kid from Rock several years ago, but I believe McDaniel is a better player overall. I look for Clay, Knox, Bell, and Jackson to be the top 4 early.
