Game Report Belfry takes down Somerset 37-12
#1
The match up between Somerset and Belfry was billed as one of the marquee match ups in the 2013 Pike County Bowl and for the firs half it did more than live up to it. The 2nd half was a domination by the Pirates, who seemed to make the necessary adjustments needed to shut down to shut down Somersets two primary weapons.

Just :27 seconds into the game Belfry would flex its muscles on the defensive side of the ball when, Hayden Hatfield got to quarterback, Castle Hatcher for the games first sack.

The Pirates defense would force a punt after three plays ran by the Somerset offense, that total negative twenty-yards of offense.

Belfry's Trenty Carr would pick up a first down on a very nice run, at the 8:59 mark of the opening quarter.

The Somerset defense would get a fine play by Tanner Gadberry, who got to the Belfry ball carrier for a four-yard loss, with 8:03 showing on the first quarter time clock.

Belfry faced a fourth and long situation with 7:02 of the first period, when Sani Warren hooked up with his receiver for a fifteen-yard gain.

The eleven play, forty nine yard drive came to a close with a seven yard run by Carr, with 5:40 left in the quarter. Austin Woolum made it a, 7-0 lead with the point after kick,

5:25 showed on the clock when #1(not in the program) but I am guessing it was Will Lange took off on a sixty-one yard run that brought the Briar Jumpers to within one point, The scored remained that wa because the point after kick was missed by, Brayden McWilliams.

Austin Hatfield behind some nice work by his linemen was able to bust of the gut for a fifteen-yard gain and another Belfry first down, with 5:18 still left in the opening quarter.

Devil Griffith put uncle Mo back of Somerset's side when he put a four-yard-loss on Trinity Carr, with 4:17 left on the clock.

Haden Fox would get to the Belfry quarterback Sani Warren for a ten-yard loss, with 3:35 left in the quarter.

After the Briar Jumper got the ball back #1Will Lange picked up thirteen yards at the 2:20 mark of the quarter. With a little over one minute remaining in the quarter #1 Lange took off on another long run, picking up another first down.

Somerset would cap off a ten play fifty seven yard drive when Jacob Peison hooked up with, his wide receiver for a sixteen yard score. Hatfield would block the point after elaving the score, 12-7 Somerset, with 10:37 left in the half. Making the catch was #7, but he was not listed in the Pike County Bowl Program. I spoke to the sports editor from the Pikeville newspaper and he said the teams provided the rosters, so the fault was not mine nor the paper's for incomplete or wrong rosters.

T.j.Dotson took off on a long run, where he would have scored if not for slipping on the turf . He did get the ball all the way down to the Briar Jumpers, twenty two yard line, with 7;26 left in the half.

Belfry would score with 5:29 left in the half on a five yard run by Carr. Woolum increased the lead to, 14-12 with his point after kick.

The Pirates got a nineteen yard run by Justin Johnson, who broke a tackle on the way to the gain, with 2:52 left in the quarter.

Warren would be sacked by the Briar Jumpers, #35, with 1:08 left in the quarter. #35 Was not listed in the program.

Befry almost got another score with 20.1 seconds showing on the clock but Kaleb Edwards dropped the pass.

Brayden McWilliams closed the half out for Somerset when he picked off a Pirate passed and took it back 62-yards, where he was stopped on a big hit by 6-4-330 pound, Michael Barnes.

The third quarter had 6:44 left in it when Belfry was awarded a safety, after Hatcher was called for intentional grounding. Belfry now had a 16-12 lead.

The Pirates lit the scoreboard again again with 2;15 left in the third, when Warren scored on a five yard quarterback keeper. The point after kick by Woolum increased the lead to, 23-12

Somerset faced a fourth and four, with 45.1 seconds left in the quarter and the elected to go for it. That decision did not look good after the pass was incomplete. The pass was much to high for the receiver to have a chance to make the catch.

Belfry scored again just nine seconds in the final frame, when Andrew Fletcher galloped in from forty-six yards out. Woolum increased the lead to 30-12, with his point after kick. The drive total sixty-one-yards and took just three plays.

The Belfry defense showed it was finished playing hard as they recovered a fumble. Making the recovery for the Pirates was #34, Joey Duty.

The scoring came to a close when, Justin Johnson scored on a thirty-five yard run and Woolum hit another point after kick, making the final score, 37-12 Belfry.

Kaleb Edwards would recover a fumble for the Pirates, with 10:13 left in the game and then with 6;59 showing on the clock Sean Hayes recovered a Belfry fumble.
