I don't know any of Whitleys coaches so I say this objectively. I stood on the sidelines a couple of years ago during one of their games. A game they lost. All I heard from 2/3 of the coaches was telling their kids to play "harder" "tougher" etc..... I saw only one young assistant actually COACHING. Explaining to a player or two what was being done to them and helping them understand what the other team was actually doing. Sometimes it is that a kid is not playing fearless enough or every play. But a lot of times, they have not been prepared in practice for what to expect and actually don't know what to do to stop what is being done to them. A team needs more than a rah rah guy as a head coach and that is all that I saw. To be fair it was only one game, but Im pretty sure it was status quo.

At the rate Damien Harris is going he will have 50 TDs and 2500 yds at the end of the regular season and he will have only played the equivalent of 5 games because he does everything in the 1st Half!!

Harris is dominating so far.

Didn't Whitley have a dominating middle school team 4 years ago, the group that should be seniors now. What happened?

If you cant stop the run you got troubles, Whitley I thought would be better that that, The 5A distrtict with Whitley, Harlan Co,Perry and Letcher may not be as strong as I thought it was I figured Harlan would win by 50 or more last night after watch Clay and Perry last week.

Have not saw Whitley, but they will have to improve from these first two weeks to beat Bell Co. Bell is down from what they are used to , but they still are a good team. I was at the Bell vs South Pitt game and Bell just couldnt stop those 2 backs that south Pitt had, they were really good backs. I have saw Middlesboro, Corbin,Williamsburgh,Pineville, and Bell. Im a Middlesboro fan but the most talented team I have saw has been Corbin.

That was last years group of seniors. Perry looked very weak last night.

Running clock at start of 3rd so don't get ur hopes up on Harlan!

With the running clock starting when a team gets up by 36 this year instead of 45 it is a lot harder to beat someone by 50.

Whitley is in bad shape this year

5A district is not very strong, besides Harlan Co.
HC may be as good as they will be all year. By end of the year HC will not be so impressive.

I went to this game the other night specifically to watch the Harris kid, and he was well worth the price of admission. Hard to tell what kind of power he runs with as his burst through the hole and acceleration past the first level is tremendous...at times it appeared everyone on the field was in slow motion and he was at hyper speed. Excellent vision, and can cut with no loss of speed. Would have liked to see him catch a pass or two just to see how good his hands were. He, barring injury, will be on TV quite a bit the next few years of his life and I wish him tremendous success.
I really don't know what is going on at Whitley, but they looked totally out of sync, not very prepared, and flat. I have read the news interviews on the coaches comments and I will say this and this alone...In every situation I have coached, my kids have never lost a game...I lost it by not having them as well prepared as I should have, or by making a bad play choice or decision..sure they may have made mistakes or not executed, but it is my responsibility to put them in position to win...I live by the motto, that when we win, the kids earned it...when we lose I blew it.

Whats it gonna take to make this team a contender once again. Would a coaching change make a difference. After his comments after the game friday it makes me wonder if the superintendant should do something..

1. No, because anyone with football knowledge knows Bell is way down this year and win against them wouldnt mean as much.
2. Im not sure. In a way, id like to see it, but only if Whitley will commit to going outside the program and getting a proven valuable coach whos a proven winner, but they will not. The next coach is already on staff.
3. Im just a fan. No ties to the program anymore. No family playing, rarely go to games, usually go to games i know will be good close games, and to be honest, any family i do have thats still in school goes to Corbin. Its going to get worse before it gets better, but have to hold out hope that some how we can eventually get the kids out to play.

It seems in this state, especially in the mountains, football is a little different. You really can have one player take over a game just like in basketball, but that should never happen in football unless you get that once in a lifetime player. Harris is that player. Hes that good. Best true D1 prospect ive seen come from around here in a long time. You'll see him on tv every saturday in the near future.

Huge difference in TN football and KY football from top to bottom.
We have a few teams in this state that could win down there, but after that, the rest would always be in the gutter.
