Panthers trailed 20-9 then scored 28 unanswered in the Second Half after re-discovering Chase Hall.
Pburg has a heckuva player in Frasure..but simply lack the playmakers on offense to compliment him and Jarrell.
Panthers imposed their will on the ground in the 3rd and 4th Quarter..Pburg got sloppy once fatigue and cramps started to set in.

The battle of US 23 goes to Pikeville.
Bigger score spread than I thought it would be.

Very impressive win for Pikeville! Definitely was not expecting that big of a win from either side.

In all honesty could have been worse.
Pikeville had three big turnovers in the 1st Half and had a couple deep drives that came up empty. Also had a boneheaded decision backfire when an onside kick failed with 30 seconds to go in the Half that Pburg converted into a TD as the Half expired.
Frasure and Jarrell did everything they could for Pburg.. but once Pikeville abandoned the pass and got back to their bread and butter it was a different game.

Congrats go to the Pikeville Panthers on a great win. As EKU said, it could have been worse. Turnovers in the 1st half as well as a touchdown called back because too many players on the field, and sloppy ball handling....all on
Pikeville's behalf. These mistakes need to be corrected. Opposing teams by mid season, maybe sooner, will see just how good P-burg is gonna be. I think they were better than some thought they would be. Me for one.

Prestonsburg come out of the gate and ran the ball well early, made a few mistakes, but so did Pikeville and Prestonsburg was fortunate enough to convert on Pikeville's mistakes in the first half.
Second half Prestonsburg got simply whipped all over the field. Pikeville ran the ball at will, not sure why they kept attempting to pass? They ran the ball so well all game and every time they threw it, seemed like it come a hair from being picked off. On the other hand, Prestonsburg just couldn't get anything going. Credit Pikeville's defense too - they were tough and kept the pressure on Jarrell all night.
Special teams for Prestonsburg was an absolute train wreck also. Jarrell cannot be punting out of shotgun. That kind of trickery will work against teams that aren't well disciplined, but Pikeville isn't one of the those teams.
This also is one of the worst conditioned Prestonsburg teams I've ever seen. Prestonsburg has never really rotated guys in and out much, usually about 15 are all that play and those guys go just as hard in the fourth quarter as they did in the first. This team looked winded in the second quarter tonight and the effort just wasn't there late in the game. Jarrell couldn't get any help from his receivers, as they jogged their routes about all night. They desperately miss Grant Anderson. He would've been huge tonight, but he made the best decision for himself and his family and I can't blame him for picking baseball over football.
Prestonsburg definitely has things to work on, but things weren't as bad as I expected. There are things they can build on. They ran the ball decently well all night, it was much better than the passing game. Defense was bad, but it wasn't good either. If these guys will just realize that they aren't world beaters and just play fundamental football they'll be alright. If they play like they did tonight they could be in for a long season.
Congrats to Pikeville!

But Pburg is a good young team and will get better as the season goes on. I agree their conditioning didn't look the best. Much credit to Pikeville's D, they played like men in the 2nd half and the O finally started really gelling. Loved the power in the running game, Hall and company ran with authority. Looking forward to this season! Hail Pikeville!

Pikeville will make a deep run this year. Great boost of confidence for the Panthers to start the year!

Great job by my Panthers tonight! Still some stuff to correct but it's all easily correctable. Charles must hold on to the football. 3 straight possessions and 3 turnovers were the difference in the first half. But I credit the kid. He hung in there and made a big TD run that broke the game wide open for us late. Chase Hall is special! There was zero doubt who the best player was on that field tonight... Coach Thacker made some great adjustments @ half. Our D was lights out in the second half. Kudos to the coaching staff (except for the onside kick with 33 seconds left) for a well coached game and our boys for a well played game. GO GET THEM DAWGS!

Very fun game to watch. It was even better in the second half. If Pikeville can tweak a few of their mistakes they will be a very tough team to beat. When #71 Gage Morrison came in on defense for Pikeville it was a game changer for the Pikeville D. He was the only one consistantly getting pressure on Prestonsburg's QB. He is one heck of a player. I am looking forward to following this team throughout the season!

Huge night for Hall. That is what the Pikeville faithful have come to expect from him.

P burg gave this game away out shape . Cost them in the second half pikeville was arm tackling might be long season for pburg no bench help pike works on tackling and deep pass they be a real good team good luck to both teams

Pikeville may make some noise in class A this year, need to work on some defense. I would love to see Pikeville get back to there winning ways. Strong tradition in Pikeville, hope they can bring back some of that Panther Pride!

I've noticed last season, Coach Thacker making changes when needed, at the half, with positive results. Imo, he's been a valuable asset to this team.

Pikeville has to be at or near the top in great comebacks the last couple years. Coming back from down 18-0 to win over Fairview in the regional championship in 2011, coming from behind vs. Raceland in the playoffs last year (and reversing a 40-pt. loss earlier in the year), and last night...Exciting times for PHS football and things are only going to continue to get better.

Pikeville made the adjustments at half time that made the difference. P-burgs defense stayed on the field the entire 2nd half with Pikeville getting the ball inside the 30 on three seperate occasions. Good job Panthers. The young Blackcats need to learn from this one and get ready for next week.

Actually Hall had 3 TD. Great Senior leadership for the Panthers last night, but I have one major concern: if Charles has 20+ carries a game, we'll be playing a freshman QB by mid-season! Whole staff made great adjustments after half. Totally turned the game around.
08-24-2013, 03:57 PM
Chase Hall showed a lot of maturity last night. He's going to be fun to watch this season. Looking forward to each game, as this team will get better and better. Kudos to Coach Mac, and staff!!
