Newport Central Catholic 37 - Ashland 26
#1
Final
#2
Well lets see how Ashland got cheated tonight....There is never a team that is better or even out plays them for one night...
#3
I'm sure NotSoBadCat will give us the play-by-play about how the refs cheated Ashland.
#4
congrats to NCC
#5
Actually Dickie admitted a pass interference against NCC to extend a tomcat drive was the wrong call and should've been offensive pass interference. That's a good team and a good program. Cats could be 1-2 or 0-3 with 9 new starters on defense everyone knew the lumps were coming early this season. I think back to 2006 when the cats started 0-2 and didn't lose again until the finale at Johnson central. And returned a few weeks later and lost cause of a miracle half back pass.
#6
yea NewCath
#7
Ashland shouldn't lose but 1 more game before facing Johnson Central. Looks like they have a easy schedule this year. Talking about a miracle half back pass this year JC has 5 good backs so watch for anything in this game.

I'll just bet that blasted old music was turned up too loud again tonight......You just wait and see, either something gets done about it , or NotsoBAD will see that heads will roll at the KHSAA. He's a man of action, that boy is...........:redboxer:

maybe the turf was of poor quality to carry all that wood:oooo:

Ashland lost because it was to long of a drive and the food at the Dairy Queen was bad.
#11
Bhahahahahahaha!!!!!!! Where are the Ashland people who were talking smack on the Lawrence-v- Boyd thread
#12
Quinton Baker is a special player. But the Putty Tats have little else.

Their schedule is not easy. I say they lose to Ironton, Raceland and GW as well as JC. They just lost so much from that defense last year.
#13
Congrats to Coach Wagnner on his first victory for the Breds.

NCC is in a whole different class of team than either Lawrence or Boyd. The cats have laid it on both programs recently so idk why you think this changes any of that.
#15
Ashland has a very good schedule this year and there is no shame in losing to a team like Newport, especially on the road. Nice win for Newport and a good first game for the Cats, just have to regroup and get ready for the next one.
#16
They lost a lot...but Leon Hart may have been the biggest loss of all. That guy was a hell of a coach, and it's hard to replace people like that. Hard not to experience a drop-off when you lose that leadership and continuity on the sidelines, even if the replacement is capable.

Here we go living in the past and if thats the case. I can remember LC not only stomping the guts out of Ashland back in late 90's. Just to bad we don't play this year or we would do it then to. :ChairHit:

Ashland will be fine. They have tradition which is what all programs strive for and many opposing fans are jealous of. This tradition at Ashland starts at youth league just like Belfry and JC. When Belfry and Johnson Central beat Ashland, they knew their tradition now had respect state wide, especially from the Ashland folks. Tradition is hard work year in and year out. For example when the Lawrence County softball team beat Ashland the first 2 games of last season you would have thought they won the championship of the entire universe. However, Ashland went to the state tourney and LC did not make it out of district. This is the long view that most do not understand or have the patience for. At any school that has tradition it is not about winning a game but endeavoring to be the best you can be at everything you compete in, whether academic or extracurricular.

Don't change the fact that Ashland people were talking smack on the Lawrence-v-Boyd thread and I think Lawrence would give Ashland all they want this year. I believe JC will beat you by more then ever in history.:biglmao:

We will never know. As far as talking smack you are absolutely, without a doubt, one of the very best.

I understand Ashland is young, but i am suprised to see so many calling for a 5-5/6-4 season. I dont feel the Raceland game is a sure fire loss for them, nor Ironton. The Fighting Tigers are just as young, possibly younger, and they hug in there with a NCC team that has had their fair share of whippings on Raceland. Raceland now has 2 big refular season games, Fairview(obviously) and Ashland. If the Rams haet figured out how to play with some grit and not get in awe of the Big Games, it will be an easy out for Ashland next week. If Racelands large o/d lines get mean, it will. E tough on anyone on their schedule. Was hoping for a tomcat win over a NKY power, but hats off to both squads and i hope all remained healthy. Gotta love cramp week....i mean week 0.

Congrats to Newport on the victory and Ashland for hanging tough. I expected NCC to run away with it. I now beloved Ashland can go 6-4 maybe even 7-3 where I was expecting 3-7.

Yeah, that sophomore class group has to be a major disappointment.

With a new head coach, new qb, new offense and only 2 starters back on offense and defense I think they are a work in progress and hopefully get better as the season moves on!! Congrats to NCC for a good win!!! Both teams have a lot to work on this week!! #5 is going to be a special player!!

Fun game. Ashland was a class team for sure. 5 is a stud and would start for about anyone in the state or up here in Greater Cincinnati. NewCath has a ton of weapons. Once they tackle better they will be my choice to repeat. They are light years ahead of last year's team. #3 for NewCath is only a Soph as well. He was right there with Baker in speed. Conditioning and special teams won this game. Ashland wasn't in shape and they had 3 kicks blocked, two being punts. They had about 10 kids go down w cramps as well. They will get a lot better. Best of luck.

Would someone please introduce the Ashland program to Gatorade. Poor guys always seem to cramp up when momentum is going in the other teams favor. I know they hate to slow the game down by all the cramping.
