13th Region Preview
#1
What are your predictions for this region this season? Who are the top teams and players?
#2
Clay is gonna be really good. Can anyone knock them off this year?
#3
South will be in good shape as well.
#4
IMO

1. Clay County
2. Knox Central
3. Jackson County
4. Bell County
5. South Laurel
6. Middlesboro
7. North Laurel
8. Harlan County
9. Harlan
10. Corbin

(7-10 teams could/will change throughout the season but I don't see much at the top changing.)

Players:
1. Tyler "Chip" McDaniel - Clay County
2. Jordan Fox - Jackson County
3. Zac Baxter - South Laurel
4. Jake Allen - Clay County

I've said for two seasons McDaniel is the best player in the region (not being biased, his play shows) and he won "one of" the Player of the Year awards, tournament MVP, with an additional honorable mention All-State. Jordan Fox has good size, makes a lot of good decisions as floor general, and has committed to Army. As Baxter goes, so does South. The Tigers are looking for a big season out of Jake Allen and Barger is the leader of a good Knox Central squad. As a whole, the 13th region has some pretty good talent despite naysayers.
#6
McDaniel is a stud and I do not think you could go wrong with that pick.
#7
Clay
#8
Clay has to be the favorite with two of the the top three players in the region in Chip and Allen. Jackson County gave Clay two very good games last year and could be the main team in the tigers way this year. Bell County will also be right in the middle of the 13th region race. South Laurel isn't gonna be an easy out either.
#9
Clay with McDaniel will clearly be the best team, Knox will be the most talented after that IMO. Bell will be a decent team, but not capable of winning the region IMO
#10
I think after Clay there is a lot of teams that are capable of winning this thing. Remember a couple years ago North pulled the upsets and won it. Could happen again for another 13th region team.
#11
I will give you Clay has to be the team to beat right now. Knox central is talented but will fold come tourney Time. Bell will be right in the mix with a solid group of seniors and some young guys that got some experience last year and can contribute much more this year.
#12
With McDaniel moving away for golf purposes, I think it drops Clay Co. down two or three spots in the rankings. Who are some of the sleepers of the region?
#13
^^ McDaniel decided to return to Clay County. Middlesboro is a sleeper IMO they will have a lot of seniors and are well coached.
#14
Jackets!

With Baxter South will have a great team too IMO. Potter is an impressive guard for Bell County.
#16
Jackson county is going to be a great team this season!
#17
I agree Jackson will have the fire power to compete with anybody this year. Should be a fun year to watch 13th Region basketball.
#18
I think Jackson will be the team to beat if they only can learn not to beat them self with collier they should have 5 good players on the floor just there sub's wont be to good so that may be a problem but we will see soon....
#19
How good is Collier? I know he has good size and seems like a good shooter
#20
Corbin will make some noise but I doubt they will be in the top three as in the past. This senior bunch was 17-1 as JV and the only loss was to Harlan County on a buzzer beater in third OT. No all stars in that group....just a bunch of hard working kids who hustle their butts off and play as a team. I don't see them making a run in the region but they'll give everyone fits all season long.
#21
Corbin is always in the hunt. Their coach does a very good job.
#22
McDaniel is fun to watch running the show for Clay.Jackson and Knox are right there in my opinion.Wouldn't surprise me if Knox or Jackson comes out of the region.
#23
As of now Clay is the clear favorite. Whether it is by a slim margin or a ton will depend on how newcomers Jake Allen and Trey Farmer come along and the athletic sophomores Wes Wolfe and Blake Smith transition from subs to starters. McDaniel is bigger, stronger and is considerably more mature. Jackson County has the tools to be a very good team along with Knox. But as of now I don't think they can compete with Clay... But we will have to wait and see!
#24
It doesn't add up to me.
Jackson and Knox, and Bell for that matter, competed very well last year and they lost much, much less than Clay.
I can see people picking Clay No. 1 because of how well McDaniel played down the stretch, but you've got three unproven starters and no one on the bench who were even factors on the JV team.
#25
Jake Allen is an unproven starter? He could possibly be the 2nd best player in the region and even after a rough year last year he is at worst top 5-6.
#26
I'm pretty sure I told everyone about Rice and Bowling last year.. Wolfe and Smith are more than just two of the best dunkers in the region. Neither are playmakers but will be great role players in Marcums system.
#27
Clay county wins the 13 regions my sleeper team will be Williamsburg.:Cheerlead:Cheerlead:Cheerlead

I said THREE unproven starters.
#29
Wes and Blake are a question mark but they'll be fine. Just hope Wes stays healthy during football.
