Hearing Chip McDaniel from Clay is moving to Golf School out of State. Any truth to this?

Hilton Head Academy in SC. Knew this was coming as soon as he won the Jr PGA. Really hurts Clay. Definitely the smart move for him.

I heard this yesterday but didn't think it was true... I'm surprised but that is his best move.
08-13-2013, 01:47 PM
yes he is gone for sure to a golf school. big hurt to clay....

Dang that hurt I was expecting a big year in golf and basketball this year from clay

Wonder how this is sitting on the stomachs of the transfers? Without McDaniel they go from a top team to a middle of the pack team in the 13th. Congrats to Chip, he deserves the best for all the work he has put in.

Sounds like a dream coming true.
Kid certainly has the talent to be playing in majors someday. Heckava talent on the golf course. Seems like a smart move, doesnt get much better then Hilton Head i wouldnt think

You could have made an argument for Clay being a 1-3 team in region with him, but now how far down do you think they drop? The sad thing is they are still talented but in that district may not make it out.

Congrats!! for his future

Know the kid personally, great move on his part. Smart decision that will pay off in the future and put not only Clay County but Kentucky out there even more in the sports world. As for basketball, the Tigers IMO drop to 3-5 best team in the region. Still some talent there but losing your leader and the best player in the region really hurts. It would be selfish of me not to congratulate Chip. There's still at chance at a run but Smith and Wolfe have to step up or Olred is right, Jackson County will break the district streak.

First off congrats to the toung man and his parents for making the smart move for his future and not getting caught up in all this useless pride that sometimes holds mountain kids back.
Clay will still be fine. The 13th is as weak as its ever been and Clay will manage.

Seen in Sunday paper, high school tournament results from stonecrest that he carded a 68 to finish tied for 2nd and he was listed from Clay County High. With that would assume he is still enrolled at Clay County High School or he would not have been eligible to compete in this tourney.

Chip should stay and play ball at Clay County and go play golf for UK. Basketball wont last forever. Golf will last a long time.

The news came after that. Around Monday.

Chip is on his way to Hilton Head. His goal is to be on the PGA Tour as a teenager something he couldn't accomplish at CCHS. The Tigers will miss him and I truly think they would have been a top 10 team in the state. I still think they will compete and shock a lot of teams. Congrats to the young man for doing what's best for him!

tournament no doubt he has the talent to make it to the tour.

Bad move for the Tigers, but a great move for the kid. There aren't many better ways to earn a living than as a professional golfer. If this was my son it would be a no-brainer.

Does his new school have basketball as well as golf, or is it simply a golf school?

I'm not sure if it's the same Hilton Head golf school that Don Click, former PGA pro at Crooked Creek, worked at before passing away. If it is the same place, Don told me the kids actually went to a public school on Hilton Head. They golf instruction before and after school plus weekends.
In a similar golf school in Bradenton, FL the kids take online classes. The Hilton Head golf school could have gone to the online format as well.

Just looked at JPGA's website. The kids actually attend school at a private school called Hilton Head Prep. The JPGA has nothing to do with the PGA Tour. The JPGA actually stands for Junior Players Golf Academy.

Young kid, plenty of time for golf. In the mean time, back to business. Chip is talented with anything he does.
08-19-2013, 10:13 AM
is he coming back or not....
08-19-2013, 11:12 AM
He's back.
08-19-2013, 11:55 AM
Rumor is he's back. I'm not positive but have heard he was homesick. This is bad news for the rest of the 13th with the region's best player returning. Clay will be lethal this year, with 3 transfers and McDaniel coming back.
08-19-2013, 03:00 PM
Who are the other 2 transfers besides the Allen kid from N. Laurel?
