#1
Anyone have their copy of the Catspause 2013 Football yearbook? I ordered mine online about 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten it.
#2
Something must be wrong with your order.
#3
If it doesn't come in tomorrow, I'll call them and see what the hold up is. I should have already had it by now unless they are waiting closer to the season to mail them out
#4
The poster known as Wheeler sent me mine last week.
#5
Just got it in the mail today.

This is from the CatsPause Preview (Note: If you would like to see a Class/District and do not have a copy of the CatsPause, feel free to ask and I'll post it)

Class 3A

District 5:

1. Bourbon County (13-1): The Colonels have plenty of weapons left from the team that had the school's best season ever to make another run in John Hodge's second season.

2. Garrard County (7-5): Mark Scenters will field a young team that, if it remains healthy, could have the first in a string of good seasons.

3. Powell County (2-9): The Pirates return all but seven players as Tony Burchett tries to turn around a team that slipped from eight wins to two.

4. Bath County (8-3): Reed Fields' Wildcats won more games last season than in the previous three years, but 18 of the 33 players on their roster were seniors.

5. Estill County (0-10): Mike Jones must repair an Engineers defense that allowed 50.2 points per game last year.

6. Western Hills (1-9): Don Miller's Wolverines won only one game last season and lost their top two scorers and their top tackler.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - BOURBON COUNTY

No, they don't have Kentayvous Hopkins anymore, but the Colonels do have just about every other key player back from a team that won it's first 13 games last year before losing in the semifinals.

Bourbon is now a senior-dominated team, and it has the talent and experience to be considered a solid favorite in this district and one of the best teams in 3A.

She star this season figures to be senior quarterback Dalton Pope, who threw for 1, 576 yards and 22 TDs and rushed for 578 yards and 10 TDs last year. Charles Johnson returns after leading the Colonels in receptions (22 for 479 yards) and interceptions (8) last year, and Brent Holman (397 yards, 8 TDs) is the top returning running back.

The Colonels also return the top two tacklers - linebackers Dakota Mitchell and Holman - to a defense that held seven opponents to eight points or less last season, as well as leading linemen Chase Berry and Lucas Rutledge.

BOUNCING BACK - GARRARD COUNTY

The Golden Lions won five fewer games last year than in 2011, when they reached the semi-finals. They have reloaded, however, and they're positioning themselves for a good season this year and in the years to come. There are only seven seniors, but the junior class is deeper and the sophomore and freshmen class are stocked with talent.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Dalton Pope, Bourbon County, Sr., QB, 5-10, 175. Pope thrived in Hodge's system in his first year as a starter, completing about 60 percent of his passes and finishing as the Colonels' second-leading rusher. It's possible he and the passing game will play an even bigger role with Hopkins gone.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Chase Berry, Bourbon County, Sr., OL/DL, 5-11, 215;
Brent Holman, Bourbon County, Sr., RB/LB, 5-9, 180;
Brett Goodwin, Powell County, Sr., WR/DB, 6-3, 175;
Charles Johnson, Bourbon County, Sr., WR/CB, 5-9, 160;
Trevor Jones, Estill County, Sr., QB, 5-9, 170;
Nick Lockett, Western Hills, Jr., WR/DB, 5-9, 145;
Dakota Mitchell, Bourbon County, Sr., LB, 5-9, 180;
Bradley Rector, Garrard County, Sr., OL/DL, 5-10, 205;
Curren Shrout, Bath County, Sr., RB/LB, 5-11, 190;
Jacob Smith, Garrard County, Sr., WR/DB, 6-4, 185;
Noah Williams, Garrard County, Sr., RB/LB, 5-10, 190;

District 6:

1. Mason County (8-5): The Royals reeled off seven straight wins before falling to Bourbon County in last season's regional final. With a solid senior group and possibly even stronger junior class, they'll likely retain the district crown.

2. Russell (6-5): The Red Devils dropped a couple of heart-breakers at home a year ago. How they rebound will depend heavily on the offensive line and backfield, as usual, in the Wing-T offense.

3. Fleming County (7-5): The air attack takes a hit, with the graduation of the Panthers' QB and top pass-catcher, but a good junior class led by Maverick Burnett should keep them competitive.

4. East Carter (2-8): The Raiders' record doesn't reflect the significant improvement they experienced last season. Most of their production, though, came from seniors.

5. Lewis County (4-7): The Lions couldn't follow up a record setting 2011 with much success in '12. Lewis County's strength should be its run game, paced by hefty fullback Mason Thurman.

6. West Carter (0-10): The youthful Comets have gained some seasoning, and with that should come at least a couple wins in 2013. They return their QB, leading rushers and top tacklers.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - MASON COUNTY

Mason County is quickly making that abysmal 2-8 in 2011 a distant memory. By the end of this season, the Royals may just forget about it altogether. Reigning district player of the year Rashon Nelson returns. While he leads the seniors, the juniors are chock full of talent. Some of them are:

Quarterback Jake O'Mara, who offers size (6-4, 215) and a growing competitive edge.
Defensive end Ashton Humphrey, who has possible Division-1 promise.
Linebacker John Combs Buchanan, who received an exclusive invitation to the elite Rivals/UA Camp in Cincinnati during the offseason.

NOT GOING AWAY - RUSSELL

While they return only four full-time starters from last season's 6-5 team, the tradition-rich Red Devils are never an easy out. Even after suffering a heart attack during the offseason, successful local legend Ivan McGlone is set to enter his 39th year at the helm. Junior Bronson Korzep (6-0, 210) averaged 7.1 yards per carry last season and will likley team up with Jackson McKnight as the team's feature running backs. McKnight and Korzep will fill vital defensive back roles as well. Other top contributors should be tight end J.T. Howell (6-0, 215) and offensive guard Landon Arnold (5-10, 225). Special teams is also a strong suit, as long snapper Pavin Downs and kicker Patrick Soucy return.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Rashon Nelson, Mason County, Sr., RB, 5-9, 205. Nelson put up impressive numbers in 2012. He had 1,746 rushing yards and 19 scores.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

John Combs Buchanan, Mason County, Jr., LB, 6-2, 185;
Maverick Burnett, Fleming County, Jr., RB/DB;
Chase Felty, East Carter, Sr., RB/DB;
Jacob Gray, East Carter, Sr., OL/DL
Ashton Humphrey, Mason County, Jr., DE, 6-3, 215;

District 7:

1. Breathitt County (12-1): After 30 seasons and three state championships with Mike Holcomb in charge, the Bobcats will be under the microphone in 2013 following Holcomb's decision to leave for Letcher Central. Breathitt remains the favorite despite losing eight starters on both offense and defense.

2. Morgan County (8-3): After their second straight eight-win season, which tied the school record for victories, the Cougars have their sights set on overtaking Breathitt for the district title. Morgan brings back seven starters on offense and six on defense.

3. Magoffin County (4-7): While Morgan is looking to move up a spot, they have to keep an eye on the Hornets, who lost by only six to the Cougars last year and should be better in 2013 with eight starters back on offense and six on defense. Junior middle linebacker Josh Poe, who lead the Magoffin defense in tackles last year, returns. Ryan Jenkins is back at quarterback.

4. Jackson County (2-8): Eight starters return on offense, led by junior halfback Cody Hundley. All five starters are back on the offensive front. Junior linebacker Cody Byrd was Jackson's top tackler a year ago and returns to lead the defense.

5. Knott Central (2-9): Steve Hollon takes over as head coach of the Patriots and hopes to build on last year's improvement after a winless 2011 campaign. Senior end Chris Slone led Knott in tackles and is among the five starters back on defense. Senior quarterback Ben Rodgers and sophomore tailback Jaylen Williams provide a couple of weapons on offense.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - BREATHITT COUNTY

For the first time in a long time, the Bobcats aren't considered a sure thing to win the district. With Holcomb moving to Letcher Central and the graduation of eight starters on both sides of the ball, the Bobcats have plenty of questions to answer. Linebacker John Keith Collins, tackle Travis Smith and cornerback John Gilbert, all seniors, will be counted on to lead the rebuilding defense. Senior wide receiver Wes Noble is the most productive player back on offense after catching 22 passes for 470 yards and four touchdowns.

READY TO MOVE UP - MORGAN COUNTY

With all the uncertainty surrounding perennial champ Breathitt County, the Cougars believe this is their best chance to unseat the Bobcats and capture the school's first district championship. Senior wingback Kody Thornsberry led the team in rushing and receiving a year ago. Senior tight ends Chase Turner and Kordell Smith are also back, along with senior linemen J.T. Brown, Nick Clevinger, Tanner McGuire and Jared Short.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Kody Thornsberry, Morgan County, Sr., WB/FS, 5-9, 145. A perfect fit for the Cougars' Wing T offense, Thornsberry has great vision to find creases in defenses and can change direction at full speed. He rushed for 1, 851 yards and 24 touchdowns as a junior and will be counted on for even more production this season with several key players in the backfield graduating.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Jordan Brown, Magoffin County, Sr., G/T, 5-11, 220;
J.T. Brown, Morgan County, Sr., T/NG, 6-4, 290;
Cody Byrd, Jackson County, Jr., HB/LB, 5-10, 185;

Austin Hundley, Jackson County, Jr., HB/S, 5-9, 180;

Matt Patton, Magoffin County, Sr., HB/S, 5-9, 165;

Travis Smith, Breathitt County, Sr., G/T, 5-9, 265;
Jaylen Williams, Knott Central, So., TB, 5-11, 215;

District 8:

1. Belfry (12-3): The Pirates have finished runner-in Class 3A for three straight seasons and a fourth consecutive appearance in the title game is very possible.

2. Pike County Central (8-4): The Hawks remain second in Class 3A, District 8 behind perennial frontrunner Belfry.

3. Lawrence County (5-7): The Bulldogs are back in the middle of the pack in the district.

4. Sheldon Clark (4-7): The Cardinals faltered last season after winning three of their first four games.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - BELFRY

After finishing runner-up to Central for three straight seasons, Belfry is back on the hunt for a Class 3A state title. Starting quarterback San Warren (990 passing yards, 11 touchdowns), leading rusher Justin Johnson and massive lineman Michael Barnes (6-4, 350) all return for the Pirates.

Senior Trenity Carr and junior Austin Hatfield are also back for the Belfry football team. The trio of Johnson, Carr and Hatfield combined to rush for over 2,600 yards in 2012.

Belfry outscored opponents 582-192 last season. Defensively, Belfry held six different opponents to a touchdown or less per game last season.

Tradition-rich Belfry is the frontrunner in a district that also includes Pike County Central, Lawrence County and Sheldon Clark. East Ridge will not compete in district play during the 2013 season.

CONTINUING TO PUSH - PIKE COUNTY CENTRAL

Pike County Central has been persistent in Class 3A, District 8. The Hawks will once again look to knock Belfry out of the district's top spot. Several key players are back for the Hawks.

Quarterback Mac Justice (2,480 passing yards and 932 rushing yards) and leading rusher Marcus Johnson (1, 329) are both back for Pike County Central, a squad that won seven of it's first eight games last season.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Justin Johnson, Belfry, Sr., RB, 5-8, 180. Justin Johnson led a balanced Belfry rushing attack last season, racking up 915 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns via 64 carries. Johnson also hauled in one scoring reception for the Pirates.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Michael Barnes, Belfry, Sr., OL, 6-4, 350;
Brandon Butcher, Sheldon Clark, So., RB/DB, 5-10, 160;

Couple Things.

1. Trevor Jones (Estill County) is a Junior not a Senior.

2. I look for Estill to finish better than 5th or 6th. Either 3rd or 4th. Heard very good things about them not to mention they had a very good summer in 7 on 7's.

Class 4A, District 5

1. Lexington Catholic (11-3): The Knights' collection of talent makes them the favorite to repeat as district and regional champions and make a run at 4A powerhouse Highlands.

2. Boyle County (8-5): Larry French will rely on several inexperienced players to keep the Rebels in contention.

3. Mercer County (6-5): Chris Pardue led the Titans to their first winning season since their 2006 championship campaign, and he looks to keep them moving forward in his second year.

4. Marion County (2-9): Jeff Robbins' Knights look to turn things around on the strength of offensive and defensive fronts where every starter returns.

5. Taylor County (6-4): The Cardinals fixed what ailed them on offense last season, but now Eric Graves must replace his leading rusher and several linemen.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - LEXINGTON CATHOLIC

Graduation almost always seem to kit the Knights hard, and they lost 26 players last season, but for the second straight year they stil return a number of their top players.

They are solid at the skill positions with wide receiver David Bouvier (86 receptions, 1,282 yards, 6 TDs) and running backs Marcelis Logan (337 yards, 7 TD's) and Noah Mitchell (278 yards) returning. Quarterback Reese Ryan (1,351 yards, 15 TDs) also returns for his first full year as a a starter after being pressed into service at midseason.

There are also stars on defense, including linebacker Josh Mesmer, defensive backs Kayron Snowden and Cody Mitchell and lineman Marty Brown.

Graduation losses hit Lexington Catholic hardest on the lines, but there are good players poised to sept up there as well.

Better depth paid dividends for Coach Bill Letton last season, and it should do so again this fall as the Knights face a typically challenging schedule that begins with games against Bowling Green and St. Xavier.

IN THE HUNT - BOYLE COUNTY

Several good players return for Boyle, but the Rebels will need even more to step up if the Rebels are to have th ekind of season they have become accustomed to. They have a proven running back in Seph Burke and an emerging talent at quarterback in Josiah Robbins. Levi McKinney is the latest in a long line of good linebackers. Justin Roution and Dylan Boures are the likely leaders on the lines.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Marcelis Logan, Lexington Catholic, Sr., RB, 5-9, 170. He might not get enough carries in a stacked Lexington Catholic backfield to put up eye-popping numbers, but the 5-9, 170-pound Logan, a likely Division 1 prospect, could still stand out on a team that features several stars.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

David Bouvier, Lexington Catholic, Sr., WR, 5-8, 145;
Dylan Bright, Taylor County, Sr., RB, 5-7, 153;
Seph Burke, Boyle County, Sr., RB/DB, 5-10, 180;

Russell Sims, Mercer County, Sr., WR/DB, 6-1, 170.

Class 4, District 6

1. Knox Central (10-2): Seeking their first district title since 1975, the Panthers bring back six starters on both offense and defense and should again battle Russell County for the district crown.

2. Russell County (11-1): Coming off their first district title since 1992 and first undefeated regular season since 1981, the Lakers have momentum nad high hopes for repeating both accomplishments despite losing star running back Nick Britt and his 1, 853 yards and 31 touchdowns to graduation. Russell County will bring back six starters on offense and eight on defense.

3. Clay County (4-7): After winning only once in 2011, the Tigers were much improved last season and that should continue in 2013 with a strong junior class returning, lead by quarterback Ryan Holland (1,188 yards passing), tailback Sam Carr (1,287 yards rushing), safety Dylan Garrison and linebacker Jacob Reid.

4. Rockcastle County (2-9): Seven straight losses to end the season dropped the Rockets to the bottom of the district, an unusual position for a program that was among the states best not so long ago. Senior quarterback Corey McPhetridge was one of the few bright spots last year with 891 yards passing.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - KNOX CENTRAL

Off to perhaps their best start in school history, the Panthers were denied a district title in 2012 by a strong Russell County squad. Those two should battle it out again, but Knox Central may have the edge with senior tailback Jonathan Gist (1,320 yards rushing), and junior wide receiver Matthew Barger (46 catches for 754 yards) returning. Four starters are also back on the offensive front, including junior center Alex Sprinkles, junior guards Dee Castle and Blake Hinkle and senior tackle Derrick Mills. Junior linebacker Hayden Canady led the panthers in tackles a season ago with 162. Barger was among the state leaders with eight interceptions from his safety spot. Sophomore tackle Hunder Mcright also returns, along with senior linebacker, Trent Tuttle, senior guard Tyler Hatfield and junior liniebacker Corey Owens.

IN THE HUNT FOR A REPEAT - RUSSELL COUNTY

With Britt and his big-play ability gone, the Lakers will need a huge season from senior Blake Ellis, who shifts from receiver to quarterback after catching 40 passes for 810 yards in 2012. Senior tailback Evan Fletcher is also back after finishing second in rushing last year with over 500 yards. Senior wide receiver Lee Cox and junior tight end Nick Coffey are also back, along with senior guards Matt Adams and Dakota Smith.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jonathan Gist, Knox Central, Sr., TB, 6-1, 204. Playing second fiddle to all-starter Jeffery Canady a season ago, the Panthers' 'G man' was often just as dangerous with 1, 320 yards rushing and 11 touchcodnws. Gist added weight and strength in the offseason and coach Scott Russell, a former Mr. Football, expects an even bigger season from his senior tailback, raving about Gist's vision and cut back ability.

Gist added weight and strength in the offseason and coach Scott Russell, a former Mr. Football, expects an even bigger season from his senior tailback, raving about Gist's vision and cut back ability.

Class 5A, District 7

1. Madison Southern (7-5): The Eagles surprised many last season by picking up some big wins, but they are no surprise anymore. They are a very talented team with running back Damien Harris leading the way.

2. Pulaski County (9-4): The Maroons are going to be strong defensively with 10 starters returning. They are young, but coach Johnny Hines believes if his team can stay healthy, they have a chance to challenge for the district crown.

3. North Laurel (6-5): Chris Larkey's squad is looking to improve on last season's postseason appearance and should be able to with players such as Michael Nelson and Gabe Blair returning to the mix.

4. Lincoln County (5-6): The Patriots return eight starters on offense and seven on defense, which ahs coach Mike Settles excited about the upcoming season.

5. Southwestern (5-6): The Warriors are coming off a rare losing season and hope to get back to the playoffs under coach Andy Stephens.

6. South Laurel (1-9): Matt Rhymer takes over as new coach of the Cardinal football program.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - MADISON SOUTHERN

Jonathan Clark enters his third year as the Eagles head coach and is excited to see what's in store for his talented squad.

Madison Southern returns one of, if not the best running back in the state in junior Damien Harris. The Eagles also return their all-time leading tackler in senior Tyler Hagan, who recorded 166 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 2012.

"We are entering our third year as a staff at Madison Southern and we have made great strides in the weight room in the past two off-seasons," Clark Said. "Our football IQ has drastically increased. We have a senior class that is very talented and that have been playing together since youth league."

"We have all but three starters returning on a defensive unit that only gave up 19 points a game this past season," he added. "We return three starters on the defensive line, two at linebacker and our entire defensive secondary. On offense, we will return three starters on the offensive line, three in teh backfield and one at wide receiver."

TOP CHALLENGER - PULASKI COUNTY

Johnny Hines' squad might be young, but they are talented. The Maroons are coming off a 9-4 season and will be challenging Madison Southern for the district title. "We are a very young team with several sophomores and freshmen playing extensively," Hines said. "If we can grow together, and stay away from injury, we have a chance to challenge for the district."

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Damien Harris, Madison Southern, Jr., RB/SS, 5-10, 200. Harris is the returning district player of the year and one of the state's top running backs and the scary thing for opponents - he's only a junior. He carried the ball 160 times for 1,911 yards and 37 touchdowns last season. He was named Max Preps 1st team Sophomore All-American and 2nd team All-State.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Gabe Blair, North Laurel, Sr., RB/LB, 5-9, 195;
Logan Campisano, Southwestern, Sr., RB, 5-8, 170;
Casey Dionne, Madison Southern, Sr., SS/Slot, 6-1, 180;
Tyler Hagan, Madison Southern, Sr., LB/RB, 5-9, 189;

Andrew Wilks, Lincoln County, Jr., OT/DE, 6-3, 260.

Class 5A, District 8

1. Harlan County (11-3): Tom Larkey's Bears have won three straight district titles and it would take a major upset to deny them a fourth with eight starters back on offense and six on defense.

2. Whitley County (7-5): Overtaking Harlan County will be a difficult task with only three starters coming back on defense, but the Colonels probably have enough offense to hold on to second.

3. Perry Central (4-7): The Commodores lost over 90 percent of their running game from a year ago. All-state lineman Joey Sams should make life a little easier for the inexperienced backs. Junior wide receiver Nathan Pray, who had 50 catches for 896 yards and seven touchdowns last year, will ease the transition for sophomore quarterback Seth Napier. Senior Devan Brewer will take over at tailback. Junior linebacker Josh Garry, senior tackle Tyler Fugate, and Pray are among the six starters back on defense.

4. Letcher Central (2-9): In an effort to stop the slide that has taken the Cougars from champs to cellar dwellers, Letcher turned to eastern Kentucky coaching legend Mike Holcomb, who led Breathitt County to three state champions. Holcomb will need big seasons from senior receiver Houston Watts, junior quarterback Zane Blair and junior running back Hunter Hall to move up the ladder in the district.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - HARLAN COUNTY

After their second trip to the state semifinals in three years, the Black Bears appear to be in position to take the next step to Bowling Green. Defense should remain a strength with all-staters Carson Whitehead and Treyvon Long coming back, along with end Cole Wilson, tackle Mark Messer and safeties Zach Chitwood and Scotty Bailey. The offense will feature a variety of big-play threats like Wilson and Long to go with hard-running ball carriers such as Chitwood and Whitehead. The offensive front should also be a strength with four starters back, including center William Banks, tackles Zach Caldwell and Justin Hensley, and guard J.W. Cooper.

HOLDING STEADY - WHITLEY COUNTY

After falling short the past two years in their quest to unseat Harlan County as district champs, the Colonels could spend much of the 2013 season reloading for another run in 2014. Whitley will remain competitive with one of the region's best running backs in Zack Mills, along with three year starter Austin Ysidro at quarterback. Senior linebacker Austin Hooper and Ysidro (at safety) will take over as leaders on defense following the graduation of Boston Bryant.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Carson Whitehead, Harlan County, Sr., FB/LB, 6-1, 215. A four-year starter at linebacker, Whitehead has helped build the Bears into a 5A state power with his leadership, consistency and sure-tackling skills that lead to a team-high 191 stops a year ago. Whitehead earned all-state honors on defense last season and should draw the attention of mid-level Division 1 schools. He's also developed into a standout blocker and power runner in the Bears' lethal ground attack.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Scotty Bailey, Harlan County, Sr., QB/S, 6-1, 190;
William Banks, Harlan County, Sr., C, 6-2, 250;

1. Wayne County (10-2): The Cardinals return nine starters on both sides of the ball, including senior quarterback Tyler Guffley.

2. Bell County (10-3): Wayne Mills' squad is hoping to improve on last season's region title game appearance , but it won't be easy with only four starters returning on both offense and defense.

3. Corbin (5-9): The Redhounds will look to rebound from their first losing season since 1995 with players such as Tanner Powers and Jake Coppock returning to the mix.

4. Casey County (3-8): Coach Sam Marple is excited for the upcoming season with more than 35 players coming out for the first time in years. The Rebels will return nine starters on both sides of the ball.

5. McCreary Central (1-9): The Raiders are looking to snap a three-year playoff drought.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - WAYNE COUNTY

For the first time since the district realingment changed a couple of years back, neither Bell County nor Corbin are the favorites to win Class 3A's District 4 title. This season it's in the cards - Wayne County Cardinals, that is. The Cardinals recorded a school-record 10 wins last season and look to have even more in 2013.

Shawn Thompson's squad is returning nine players on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Tyler Guffey, who threw for 1,535 yards and 17 touchdowns last season and had 426 yards and six scores on the ground. Guffey's main target, senior Jason Perkins (24 receptions, 565 receiving yards and seven touchdowns), returns along with wide out and cornerback Alan Brown, senior defensive end Lance Humble and running back Junior Ruiz (378 rushing yards and six touchdowns).

"We have a lot of experience coming back on both sides of the ball," Thompson said. "Coming off a 10-win season, which is the best in school history, we have a lot of excitement here in Wayne County. This group of young men have worked extremely hard this off-season to prepare themselves for hopefully an exciting and competitive 2013 season.

"Our district schedule will offer a lot of challenges each and every Friday night. Just like every other team, we need a little luck and hopefully avoid any major injuries throughout the season."

TOP CHALLENGER - BELL COUNTY

The Bobcats have won the district championship the past couple of years and will be hard-pressed to accomplish the feat for a third straight year. Bell County returns only four starters on both offense and defense along with only six eniors on the roster. "We have six seniors dominated by juniors and sophomores," Bell County coach Wayne Mills said. "We have a lot of skilled players and if the line comes along, this team has a lot of upside."

PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Tyler Guffey, Wayne County, Sr., QB, 6-0, 225. Guffey turned in some impressive numbers last season by throwing for 1, 535 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 87-of-175 pass attempts. He also ran for 421 years and six touchdowns on the ground.

1. Pikeville (7-6): Longtime frontrunner Pikeville remains the team to beat in Class A, District 8.

2. South Floyd (5-6): The rejuvenated Raiders are coming off a runner-up finish.

3. Allen Central (2-9): The Rebels are still rebuilding after finishing runner-up in the district in 2011.

4. Phelps (0-10): The Hornets will be looking to end a 15-game losing streak when the 2013 season kicks off.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - PIKEVILLE

Pikeville is the perennial favorite in Class A, District 8. This season, Pikeville is poised to welcome back its leading offensive and defensive players.

Senior running back/defensive back Chase Hall is back to lead the Panthers. Hall rushed 177 times for 1,519 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.

Junior quarterback Austin Charles completed 133 passes for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Pikeville quarterback also rushed for 379 yards, scoring four touchdowns via the ground.

Juniors Ben Maynard (426 rushing yards) and Cody Estep (752 receiving yards) are also back for the Panthers.

Defensively, Pikeville returns its top two tacklers from last season, both of whom registered over 70 tackles. Senior Austin Black (DB) and sophomore Daric Pugh (DL) are back to pace the Pikeville defense.

The Panthers finished runner-up in the region last year.

STILL ON THE RISE - SOUTH FLOYD

After finishing runner-up in 2012, South Floyd must replace leading rusher and receiver Weston Little. One of the state's top rushers in 2012, Little picked up 2,315 yards via 260 carries. He scored 31 rushing touchdowns, averaging 210 yards on the ground per game. The productive Little also lead the Raiders in receiving. Senior running back/defensive back Blake Dye is back to help lead South Floyd. Dye rushed for 958 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Jimmy Helton (Linebacker/running back), who lead the South Floyd defense with a team-high 86 tackles and finished second in receiving, is also back for his senior season. Junior lineman Mack Little is back along both lines for the Raiders.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Chase Hall, Pikeville, Sr., RB/DB, 6-0, 200. During his junior season, Chase Hall, a two-way starter, rushed for a team-high 1,519 yards and 21 touchdowns and also recorded 50 tackles, 41 of which were solo stops. Hall made the tackles from his defensive back position. One of the top running backs in Class A, Hall helped Pikeville offensively throughout the 2012 season.

1. Williamsburg (11-2): Everyone knew the Jackets would have an explosive offense last year but the top defense in Class A was something of a surprise as Williamsburg gave up only nine points a game. Williamsburg should make a run at the state title.

2. Campbellsville (4-7): After losing their first five games, the Tigers closed strong and won four of their last five in the regular season to stoke hopes for a deeper postseason run in 2013. Eight starters are back on both offense and defense.

3. Lynn Camp (3-8): The Wildcats showed improvement from the previous year's 0-11 disaster with three wins in their first seven games before running out of gas down the stretch. Six starters are back on offense, led by quarterback/receiver Aaron Mills, tailback/receiver Tommy Hatfield, receiver Tyler Reynolds and guard Bryan Blue.

4. Berea (2-9): With most of their key players back from a four win team the previous year, the Pirates' collapse in the second half of 2012 was a disappointment., Berea brings back four starters on offense and six on defense.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - WILLIAMSBURG

Very few teams in Class A can match the Jackets' firepower with Dalton Sizemore returning for his senior year after passing for 3,133 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2012. Sizemore's two favorite targets also return in Skylar Griffith pulling in 61 catches last year for 1,176 yards and Corey Shelton grabbing 63 for 1084 yards. Junior center Chris Helton and sneior tackle Tyler Taylor are back to anchor the offensive line. Junior linebacker Jefferson Patrick had 11 tackles to lead an unheralded defense that also features junior end Michael Rose-Creekmore, sophomore end Austin Huskey and a secondary of Griffith, Shelton and Chase Lowrie that teamed for 16 interceptions.

NEXT IN LINE - CAMPBELLSVILLE

Knocking off a state contender like Williamsburg will be a difficult task, but the Tigers have hopes for a longer stay in the Playoffs with an experienced team returning, including nine sophomores who started a year ago. Campbellsville features a potentially explosive offense with sophomore Kendon Young back afer catching 46 passes for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. Sophomore Austin Hash had 16 receptions at tight end before suffering a broke leg in the fourth game. Senior Zach Durham, a three-year starter at quarterback, passed for over 1,000 yards in 2012. Tge dfense will feature junior Eric Lamer, a three-year starter, and sophomore Deston Ford, the leader in tackles last year, returning at linebacker. Junior Derrick Caldwell is the top returning lineman.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Dalton Sizemore, Williamsburg, Sr., QB, 6-1, 200. With over 3,000 yards passing and 39 touchdowns, Sizemore orchestrated one of the top passing offenses in Kentucky in 2012 and will likely put up bigger numbers in 2012 with most of his key receivers coming back. Sizemore was also a threat on the ground with a team-leading 626 yards and 123 carries.

1. Anderson County 8-3): Anderson has talent at the skill positions, good size and depth in the line, and experience. WR Ross Cox is getting serious looks from some Divison 1 schools and many other Bearcats wil have the opportunity to play college football.

2. Franklin County (12-1): The Flyers must replace the enormously gifted Ryan Timmons, QB Logan Woodside and a host of other players but have some talented athletes who have played key roles on teams that have gone 23-2 over the last two seasons.

3. West Jessamine (3-8): West Jessamine gave both Anderson and Franklin fits last season. Don't be surprised if the Colts turn some heads around the state this time around.

4. East Jessamine (2-8): The Jaguars return a solid nucleus that could easily move up in the dsitrict. If East Jessamine gets more consistency, it will be a force.

5. Montgomery County (7-4): The Indians must overcome graduation losses to key playmakers, but rebuilding around a healthy Uvea Moala is a good place to start.

6. Woodford County (4-6): Woodford has won just one district game over the last two years and continues its rebuilding efforts.

PRESEASON FAVORITE - ANDERSON COUNTY

Mark Peach is optimistic about the 2013 season with Anderson County returning 19 of 22 starters from an 8-3 team. In an otherwise balanced district, Anderson is a heavy favorite to take the title.

"We have had the best off-season we have had since I have been here," says Peach, who took his alma mater to the state 5A championship two years ago.

Much of the Anderson attack will go through senior Ross Cox, a dangerous WR who caught 51 passes for 1,153 yards and 13 scores last year. Junior QB Zachary Carmichael is a fiery two-way threat who threw for 2,622 yards and ran for 690 more. The Bearcats' line is strong with seniors Landon Searcy nad Darius Harvey and junior Jarrod Cubert. On defense, leading tackler Tristian Ashburn returns at middle linebacker. He'll be flanked by seniors Huston Page and Justin Woodworth giving Peach what he calls "the best group of linebackers we have had." Kicker Joe Rose is also a major weapon for the Bearcats.

THERE IS LIFE AFTER RYAN - FRANKLIN COUNTY

Even without Ryan Timmons, Franklin County will be formidable. The Flyers return talented running back Chris Roberts and receiver Lorenzo McCaskell, two of the district's best athletes.

The Flyers will be experienced up front with seniors Zane Stone (5-10, 250) and Michael Hudkins (6-1, 220). That should bode well for a very explosive offense.

2013 PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Devin Taylor, West Jessamine, Sr., RB/LB, 5-10, 210. Devin Taylor, who is a slight pick over Anderson's Ross Cox for Player of the year, is probably the best player few people outside central Kentucky have ever heard of. But rest assured, District 6 is fully aware of the workhorse who ran for 2,422 yards - best in the sate in the regular season - and 23 touchdowns last year. Taylor, who squats 525 pounds, averaged 27 broken tackles per game last year.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Cody Anderson, West Jessamine, Jr., FB/LB, 6-0, 230;
Tristan Ashburn, Anderson County, Sr., FB/LB, 6-0, 220;
Zachary Carmichael, Anderson County, Jr., QB/S, 5-10, 170;
Ross Cox, Anderson County, Sr., WR/S, 6-4, 200;
Darius Harvey, Anderson County, Sr., OL/DL, 6-3, 260;
Zack Korby, Woodford County, Sr., K/P, 6-3, 175;
Ian Kossick, West Jessamine, Sr., TE/LB, 6-2, 225;
Lorenzo McCaskell, Franklin County, Sr., WR/LB, 6-1, 190;
Uvea Moala, Montgomery County, Sr., FB/LB, 6-2, 240;
Chris Roberts, Franklin County, Sr., RB/LB, 6-4, 240;
Joe Rose, Anderson County, Sr., K/P, 6-1, 175;
