Paducah Tilghman Tornado 2013

Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado Preview 2013

The big question for the Blue Tornado this year will be can they make it past Fort Campbell and make a deep run to the promise land again. The answer will come with whether they can find discipline in the program. The Tornado is always loaded with talent, as they are again this year. When you play this team you find they have SPEED at every position and the size to go with it. The thing that has stood in their way over the past few years is lack of discipline, which cost them practically every game they lost last season. The question is can they fix that this year?

The Tornado are always big and fast up front on the lines. This year will be no exception. This year they return their best threat at receiver in Darrius Spivey-Nunn. This kid is a blaze and is strong. He is all over the field. They also return their qb from last season in Jordan Tyler. This kid is mobile along with having a good arm. The Tornado have also reloaded with a bunch of talent that left the former schools of Lone Oak, Heath and Reidland to join this tradition rich program.

The coaching staff has also remained intact. This could be a good thing for the Tornado, due to the fact they know all of these young men and there is no new system to learn. The thing is it could be bad for the team as well. This because, this seems to be where the lack of discipline starts. The Tornado are prone to large penalty yardage in the form of major penalties. Early indications are that this trend may continue as they have already had a bench clearing brawl in 7 on 7 with Caldwell Co this year.

With the talent that has been assembled this year, the Tornado should be a top 5 team once again and should make it to at least the semi’s. It will be on the coaching staff and the leadership of the team to see this and right the ship. I would like to see this happen because I think it would be great for West Ky to see this team return to the power program that it used to be.

The schedule for the Tornado this year is also a very brutal one. The Tornado start their season at cross town rival McCracken Co. The Mustangs are being billed as the new 6a power in Western Ky. They then travel to Evansville Ind to play Rietz, which is a tradition rich program in the state of Ind. They then host the 1a state champs Mayfield. The Cardinals finished 14-1 last season and look to be reloaded for another deep run. They then travel to Graves County. The 5a Eagles finished 9-3 in a tough loss to Warren Central last season in the 2nd round of the playoffs. They then host the 4a state champs of 2012 in Highlands. The Blue Birds finished 2012 at 14-1 with their only loss coming out of state. They will also be reloaded, because they are Highlands. They then host Henderson Co out of 6a. The Colonels finished their season in 2012 with a mark of 9-3. They then travel to Madisonvill N-H. The Maroons are playing in 4a and finished 2012 with a mark of 7-5. They then host their division rivals in Fort Campbell. The Falcons bounced the Tornado from the playoffs in 2012 in a highly touted rematch. This came after the Fort Campbell coaching staff told the Tilghman coaching staff they would see them again in the playoffs, after losing at home and the Tilghman coaching staff advised them they would be there waiting. Next they travel to another district opponent in Trigg Co. The Wildcats finished 2012 with a mark of 5-6 and appeared to have been improving towards the end of the season. They then finish the season with their remaining district opponent in Webster Co at home. Webster Co finished 2012 with a mark of 1-9 and I’m sure will be looking to improve upon that mark.

This schedule should make the Tornado ready for anything they see in the playoffs. The questions will be, how many injuries might they take and how many of these games can they win. The last part of that question may be more important than anyone knows. This being because if they lose too many of these games this could lead to more doubts and problems within the program that needs to right the ship.

Players to watch for:

Jordan Tyler/ qb This kid lead the Tornado to the 2nd round of the playoffs
last season. He threw for 941 yards and 6 touchdowns in
just 9 games. At a year older and more versed in the
offense look to see these numbers increase.

Darrius Spivey-Nunn wr/cb This kid was all over the field last season for the
Tornado. There was hardly a play that his name
was not mentioned on. He appears to be a great
athlete and should see great numbers this year.

Michael Davis/ wr This kid was the leading receiver for the Tornado last
season. In just 8 games played, he grabbed 29 passes for
359 yards.

Nothing but a bunch of thugs, at least the ones at the Christian County 7 on 7 tourney were. Wyatt is a thug, so I figure that is where they get it from. I know the Caldwell Co. boys are not choirboys, but they were being punched in the gut and gouged in the face off the ball in a 7 on 7 game. I hope they lose every game. Just my honest opinion.

Other than that, mysonis55 is still my favorite person on here and it is a great post!

Dreamkiller, that is a shame that the Tornado is being led astray. This is a very quality program that I would love to see make a return to the promise land. I think you nailed it exactly as I was trying though. The kids will act as their leader does. I still think back to last seasons Graves Co game. I feel like the ranting and raving by their coach is the reason they got all those 15 yarders that the players cost and it didn't help when the coach cost them one himself. If you like my posts so far, I think you are gonna love me after I post the preview for the Caldwell Co Tigers. That is the 2013 state champion Caldwell Co Tigers.

It a shame that so much. Skill but so little discipline. Shame

Color me skeptical about Tilghman.

Every year it is the same song and dance "Only team as talented as Central, maybe even more", "several D-1 caliber prospects", "only tram with the speed to match Central"... then it seems they play schizophrenic.

Tilghman does have a 3A Title.. but that came the only year the two premier teams in the class (Central and Belfry) had their largest and only rebuilding year. By and large PT has dramatically underperformed for the talent they have and lost many a game that on paper they should have clearly been the better team.

PT always has a ton of athletes and a ton of potential. Highlands travels there this year for a game and I am hoping for a good game and not a dirty game with a bunch of thugs. I give the coaching staff big props for upping their schedule and now hope they instill good character in their young men to go along with their athletic talents.

If they can get down 4 touchdowns to Caldwell County and start a fight, I can not imagine what they will do when Highlands has them down 70-0 at the half. PT will revert back to their thugish ways and try to hurt someone. I suggest sending your JV team to beat them.

Paducah has a long history of winning. They have sent several players to the NFL . They were known as linebacker U. back in the day. Things have changed. Wyatt may be a good coach, but he is a terrible role model.

Yes, but do not forget that Highlands will be taking coach busses that are a little more comfortable than school busses.

Wyatt's Greatest Moment!
#13
There is a small but dedicated group of Randy Wyatt haters who post about him on all of the sports boards. Not a word would be said about Wyatt if he were white. White coaches can do what he does and it's called motivation. But when Wyatt does it, his players are "thugs" and he is an uppity black man. Wyatt has won almost 50 games in five years. He's an intense man who dislikes losing.

I don't think anyone is saying anything bad about him other than he has to be disciplined in his approach. I for one want very much to see the Tornado become great, as they once were because it is great for all of West Ky. I simply made the statement that they have not been disciplined in their approach. For instance the game against Graves Co last year, they would have won had they kept their cool and not given up so many 15 yard penalties, one of which he cost the team at the most inopportune time, when the Eagles just recovered a fumble and it pushed them way down the field. He got that because he had been throwing fits on the sideline and threw off his headset and took his shirt off as I remember. You can't do that in front of impressionable kids, it sends a message to them that this is okay. I personally do not want to see him or any other coach lose their job, I just want the Tornado to get back on track. No more 15 yard penalties for bad conduct and no more fist fights. You can believe that I am whole heartedly behind the Tornado when they are not playing us. This was not meant to be a negative thread about the Tornado but a preview of what is expected.

I rarely disagree with you but I think his teams lack discipline and some of his rants I have witnessed are over the top (Mayfield game 3 years ago when he let it loose on the sideline in particular was over the top) but I do think he catches more crap than he deserves. PT under his watch, in my opinion, has underachieved. That said, I watch from afar so Tica you would know better than I. The article in the Sun the other day saying that was no rival game because LO never won also struck me as just him being a jerk for lack of better words

Doesn't get you there any faster. And thinking about what wait down there wont help you going into a dog fight. speed vs speed.

PT always has a ton of speed! Highlands usually has more speed than the teams they play, but that will not be the case in this game. I do not know much about PT coaching staff but I know Highlands staff would love to have some of the athletes PT has.

Any coach would love to have that kind of talent.

Put the coaches of highlands with the athletes pt has very scary. Outcome
#20
Put the coaches of PT with the athletes at Highlands and you will have an even more scary outcome, for Highlands.
#21
The issue from game one under Wyatt has the inability to prevent/correct the on-field mistakes and crippling penalties. Mistakes have cost PT an average of two games a year.
#22
Tica, I really wish the Tornado could get that kind of stuff fixed. I think it would be great, I mean great, if we could see 1a decided by the Cards, 2a by the Tigers and 3a by the Tornado this year. It will take a lot of luck and a lot of mental discipline by the Tornado in order for this to happen. But think about how awesome that would be to set in the stands and watch all 3 of these teams from with about 1 hours of ea ch other or less, play in Bowling Green for titles this year. We all know that PT has the talent to do that. I am hopeful that the Cards will and I know the Tigers will. I think this would speak loudly and proudly for this part of the state if we do that.:Cheerlead
