Hatfield vs Mccoy All-Star Game Aug 3rd
#1
The greates All-Star game is coming up Kentucky vs West Virginia high school football game Aug 3rd, gets harder every year to get any information on it, anyone out there that can help me, particularly rosters of Kentucky & West Virginia squads?

I have learned that David Jones is back at the Helm this year, this means that Ky. will "Walk the dog on West Virginia again this year" he can get the players! Can't wait!

Do the Belfry kids play for KY where they play or WV where they (some of them) live?
#4
I hate when people like jumper dad makes stupid comments that they have no clue about. The kids who are originally from West Virginia transfer from West Virginia to Kentucky when they are like in 3rd or 4th grade. They have all grew up playing in the little leagues and middle school program for Belfry. It's not like our friends over the mountain who had kids drive 2 hours one way to school each day and ended up having to forfeit every game 2 years ago for it. The new Mingo Central school is farther away from Williamson, WV than Belfry is away from Williamson. Yes, Trenity Carr, Davontae Dari, Mike Barnes, and I'm sure there's some that I've missed are all originally from WV but they have all went to Belfry Middle School and I know Trenity went to Southside Elementary which is in KY. But most of these kids who play for Belfry were born in Belfry and have went to a Belfry school from the time they were in kindergarten and the ones who haven't have transferred over in elementary school.

I had a true Belfry fan last year tell me that Belfry had over 22 players on their roster last year that lived in West Virginia. When I say true Belfry fan I mean a fan that actually lives in Belfry.

Check your self Pirate!!! I made no mention of kids playing illegally or anything else. My question was do they play for their school's state pride or for their home states pride. Some of the players do in fact live in WV right?

I'm not insinuating anything and I have the utmost respect for Belfry. In fact Belfry fans are probably the classiest group of people that I came in contact with when my son was playing football.

Why is this such a sensitive subject?

They're so sensitive because they know it's true. Not only do they have an absolute cake walk to the finals in the 3A eastern division they're doing it with kids who don't even live in Kentucky.

Guys, I think I'm as realistic as it comes in this situation.. name me a kid who plays a skill position and I'll gladly give you a Google Maps link to their neighborhood. There may be a few who live in WV, I'm not sure, but I know the majority live in Kentucky and that's the gods honest truth.
#9
Compared to some other schools around the state, I hardly think Belfry has an upperhand getting a few kids from West Virginia.

Have you seen the 14th regions basketball situation?

Belfry, no doubt has a geographic advantage over most teams in our area. With that being said, nothing is illegal about a kid moving from WV to KY to play for a great program such as Belfry. Being from Breathitt, I am not a fan of the Pirates, but I do respect their program and what they have accomplished. Belfry isn't doing anything that any other football program in East Kentucky isn't doing. Lets face it, recruiting goes on everywhere!!!!!

Coach Haywood or none of the other coaches at Belfry recruit these kids to come over to Belfry. They come on there own. Before the Mingo Central school was built you had Williamson, Burch, Gilbert, and Matewan high schools. Williamson is about a 3 minute drive literally to Belfry High School. Williamson was about like an East Ridge or Phelps in WV so tell me why would these talented kids go to a school like that where about maybe 300 people come to the games when they can go to a school 3 miles up the road and compete for state championships and play in front of a packed stadium every Friday night? These kids don't just come for football either. The education system was alot better in Pike County than in Mingo County plus the middle school and little league programs were alot better. It's kind of like the kids in Pulaski County who choose to attend Somerset instead of going to Southwestern or Pulaski County. And Tomcat pride how exactly do we have a cupcake walk to the finals every year? The last 3 years we have been the 2nd best team in 3A easily.

I didn't say anything was wrong or being done wrong, I was just wondering which team those kids that do come across the border to Belfry would play for. I think that if I was from WV I would want to play for WV regardless of where I played HS ball. I would want to play for my home state not the one where I went to school.

You've got to realize though most of these kids move to Kentucky and spend the majority of their childhood from Elementary School up living in the State of Kentucky. Sure they may have been born in West Virginia...but their ideals of where they live much more associated with being raised as Kentuckians with people who cheer for Kentucky.

In the Mingo County area, from my personal experience, there isn't nearly the same connection to State Pride or cheering for the home state University like that on the Kentucky side. In fact..I would venture to say a good portion of Mingo County are more Marshall and UK fans than WVU. Kentuckysportsradio even did a live broadcast from Williamson, WV recently if that is any indication.

Conversely, on the other side of the river you are hard pressed to find anything but UK fans.

If these were kids who were only coming to Belfry prior to High School I am sure there would be a call to "honor your home state", but by and large these are kids who have essentially been raised in the Bluegrass State.

As for the Ashland fan...are you really going to cast stones in this glass house? There have been more players jump over the Paul Blazer District boundaries than Illegal Aliens jumping the border. If there was a book outlining how to properly transfer it would be sold at the Putnam Concession Stands. Weren't you the same guy claiming half of the Belfry Freshman were hold backs from your source after they curb stomped Verity Middle School? That argument really went well for you.

Yup, at least Belfry is playing with American students, lol.

I don't see what the big deal is if half of their team is from West Virginia. They're playing within the rules. If I were in the situation of a lot of the West Virginia kids I'd much rather attend Belfry as well, whether I played football or not.

Whats all this got to do with the request of information on the upcoming Hatfield vs McCoy all-star game, besides Jones gets his players for the game squad from Ky, regardless of where he is from!
#18
So basically what your trying to say jumper dad is that if a.kid that plays for belfry but was.originally from Texas and moved from Texas to Kentucky when he was in 5th grade that if Kentucky and Texas.played a.high school football all star game that he should.consider playing for Texas.since that is his home state? I.mean that's what your saying correct?
#19
There is a faceboook page that has all the information.
#20
I just got a look at David Jones' Roster it is amazing, WVA will be hard pressed to hang in with Ky, I'll say Ky by 20!
#21
^ not so fast...don't get me wrong I will be pulling for the boys from the bluegrass state but WV is loaded as well. I think they have 12 first team all state players on there roster. Both coaches went a little beyond there bounderies this year to pull in some great talent.

they play for both...
#23
is Joe Kinzer calling this game tonight and if so what website so i can get it over here in Arkansas and what time....btw i lived in Belfry and Matewan, and Matewan the latter, but since they started kindergarden at Belfry and by the time they went to high school they lived in Matewan, they was ask where they wanted to go and of course they said Belfry..
#24
here is a link to the game.I believe it is suppose to be a live feed. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/river-view-high-school

Everybody wants to get so caught up with recruiting in Eastern Ky and they act like it doesnt go on all across the state. Belfry does have the advantage of getting kids from WV but when your school sits within a rocks throw of the state line thats going to happen. You can sit in the stands at Cam Stadium and see the bridge going into WV so people need to chill out about Belfry recruiting. If I lived in Williamson I would want my kid to play for a great program like belfry. Trinity dominates 6A football and nobody talks about how they bring in kids from al over the country.
#26
I will say this one last time.

There is a difference between having a school that just so happens to have a good football program (and a legendary coach and molder of young me) and sits a couple miles away from a town across state lines - versus recruiting.

Haywood, nor any of his coaching staff or school personell take any affirmative action to bring kids in.

They just come folks. It is an advantage for sure, but there is no recruiting at Belfry.
#27
What time is the game?
Is it streaming anywhere? The link above doesnt work
#28
Is anyone going to be able and post some updates and scores on here. I'm stuck out of town with no other way to keep up with action.
#29
David Jones reppin the state of KY on his arm! oh wait...

I take it this game is with last years seniors? Kind of an odd time...but never too late to put on the pads one more time!
