I was able to watch a little bit of this. The kids that stood out to me were:
#33 from Fleming
#31 from Raceland (Messer)
QB from Lewis
QB from Lawrence Co. (Cyrus)
#18 from Russell (Korzep)
QB from Raceland
As far as teams, Raceland looked good as did Fleming. Both schools are kind of built for 7on 7.

Thanks! How about Johnson central anybody watched them?

I noticed the Russell linemen who were there were outsized but still outshines the majority in the events as a who. Tough kids

As a "whole"...not a who. That was the Dr Suess typing on this phone. Lol

Summon, probley spelt wrong, and Redden can match up likewise, smith and mell weren't there. These are some young kids that all four can match up with. What won it for them was the bench press, so they have some strength also. A few of their kinsman are shorter, but strong

I was surprised when I couldn't find many seniors at the linemen event. I love Sumans size. Redden only lacks one thing and that's confidence. A lot of our kids threw up 185lbs fairly easy. Glad to see our youth working out and getting stronger.

Johnson Central defeated Raceland in the finals of the passing tournament. JC went 2-1 in their pool losing to Fleming Co by two but defeated them in the semifinals. Overall, they played very well.
07-20-2013, 06:11 PM
I did see Johnson Central there but did not get to see them play. Just watching them walk past me, they were the best looking bunch in terms of the eye test. JC's kids were physically bigger and stronger looking than most of the others.

Greenup County varsity on Friday beat Bath County then lost to Lewis County and West Carter to go 1-2 in pool play. They lost to Raceland team #1 in the tournament Friday.
They played much better all around for most of Saturday beating Russell #2 and Raceland #1 and losing a close game to Lawrence County to go 2-1 in pool play. They turned around though and lost to Raceland's JV the first game of the Saturday tournament.
Of the games i saw both days, i was surprised how good West Carter played on Friday in going 3-0 in their pool with Bath Co., Lewis County and Greenup County. They have a nice balanced set of skill players.
Raceland's teams looked good. This kind of tourney plays to their offensive style and they have alot of skilled kids throughout their program. I thought Cyrus for Lawrence County looked really good at QB. Lawrence also had a really good receiver too on the outside. Johnson Central played really well in the Saturday tournament and overall was the most physically imposing team there.

I saw some of Greenups JV squad play. Is the Hunt boy getting many reps at QB? He throws a pretty nice ball at times.

Yes, Hunt is going to be the varsity QB. He was the freshman QB last year and has grown a couple inches, he's around 6'2 now. He can really throw it but it will be a learning process good and bad. He will be fine though. Significant upgrade at QB versus the last couple years. The varsity skill group only had 3 seniors playing and 2 were just playing defense, so they are sophomore/junior for the most part. The JV group was the incoming freshman team. They are trying not to have to have the freshman play up like the past couple years but as the season starts there may be a couple that may have to.

I hope they all get confidence. I saw Redden at the ymca later and asked him what he was doing after spending all morning at raceland, he said he was mad that he didn't do more reps with the weights and wanted to work out. Love that type of attitude.

Yea Redden has a great attitude. That whole Russell Group #2 have good attitudes and take it serious. Good qualities to have. Will be rooting for the Hunt boy to do great at Greenup. He's my sons cousin.

Very proud of Johnson Central today.

So how did Russell do in the two days. What was their final record. I know they were young. I saw mostly jrs, & sophs and a fresh on defense

Johnson Central has some good athletes, by far the best defensive backfield there this past weekend. JC is going to be tough once again. Big #14 at tight end, 6"4 and can run, makes for a tough match up.
The Cyrus boy from Lawrence looked really good, total command of the offense and throwing the ball very well. Also #11 for Lawrence, a freshman, made a ton of plays at WR. He is a basketball kid that can flat out go get the football.
Raceland put together a solid two days. Finished 1st on Friday and 2nd on Saturday in the tournaments. Beach wasn't at full strength due to some soreness in his hamstrings, he's a difference maker for the Rams. While I said JC had the best defensive backfield there, the best individual DB was Racelands Connor Messer. Kid just has great football instincts and the fact that he's 6"3, runs well, and can jump out of the gym, only makes him more dynamic at FS. Elkins looked good for the Rams at QB, he displayed improved decision making. Overall, Rams looked good. Sky's the limit.
Russell and GC showed signs of improvement but as we all know 7on7 just is not the Devils thing.. But they did play well at times. GC, going to be another long year in Lloyd but they did look much better than last year.
QB for Lewis County was impressive at times.. Big boy and can spin it. Inaccurate at times though. Lewis could surprise some people this year.

I agree. Amazing he was just a freshman. Had huge hands and grabbed anything even close to him. He made a catch against Racelands varsity in pool play on Saturday that i thought he had no chance at. He was one of the best 2 or 3 recievers there. Has the potential in football to be a big time recruit from this area if he continues to develop.

I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure he was one of their main varsity basketball players last year though.

Yes he is, his name is Timmy Dalton. He is a freshman
