The news journal and times tribune coach of the year awards mean nothing, its only between 6 or 7 coaches from the same area.

Flounder is a good coach, but it will be a while before hes a top ten type.
I wonder if Cherokee knows Herron went to Whitley before transferring to Wburg in high school too:biglmao:

RIUTG every time I get some respect for you , you post something STUPID you are so blind because you hold that old grudge Whitley vs the Jackets that you let it interfere with your knowledge of the game, last year you went home, we went to the regional finals and this year watch. We are having a ball you should come and watch Dalton Skyler Jefferson they will put you on a show something you would not understand and after the game if we lose we Won't blame it on the weather, the reffs or the class we don't know what will happen but we do know we will get our money worth and enjoy the game. No one in the stands will leave to get popcorn they know they may miss a Dalton bomb. I pull for whitley County but I, like you know exactly what to expect. I remember the last time Williamsburg played a team the same year Whitley County played the same team, Do you remember the scores of both games. I do, Do you remember the last time Corbin hooked up with little old Burg I do. To belittle the awards that coach Herron got is disgusting, that is exactly what I expect from a sore loser.. I will tell you this when you check the Williamsburg scores this year whoever wins I promise you we will enjoy the show and at least our coach is a winner and he will keep on bringing home his hard ware

Donny Daniels as stated earlier has his team winning. How many titles would Belfry if their teams would have just consisted of players only from Pike County. Red Jacket, Matewan, Huntington have all been very good to Belfry if I recall. Belfry has distinct advantages to many of the other schools in Pike County.

Well he is the one with the most wins in the state, who in the mountains is on that level....of course your better with great players, it's making them great and putting them in the right positions and making them Play as a TEAM..and and when a parent can send their kid to a school across the river because Mingo County Football sucks, You would do the same because it's a better opportunity for your child...It's not the coaches fault.....

Haywood and Herron are both great coaches they wood succeed at any school, they both have different styles but, you never know what they will do in different games to I saw Haywood play at whitley he had 11 players within 4 yards of Whitley County's offensive line. Whitley played their heart's out and came close but couldn't move the ball.

My point exactly......a lot of coaches would be better with a "farm" system. I don't know Larkey, Holcomb, Hilton would all be on par with Haywood. I'm just telling you wins don't mean your the best coach. I guess you'd argue also that private schools don't have an advantage also.

And that Sir is Bull Crap.!!:please: Haywood could not come to McCreary Central and have them winning in no time. That is a Fact. I think he is a wonderful Coach but I don't care who you are if you are playing against a Stacked Deck , you can't win. He would have to come and be willing to stay many years, and hope the Administration changes to win. Been there Done that.

It doesn't take much coaching to win by 35 and you can coach your tail off and lose by 35. Show me a coaches record in games decided by 8 points or less and it will help reveal a good COACH.

Well at least he played in those games the first year he started (8 freshmen) and played the state champions a hell of a game but Hazard was the best team and won. Last year he started (8 sophomore) and came very close on their carpet they were the best team that night as evidence of the score, however I do not believe Hazard was any better than the jackets. this year Williamsburg will start 10 junors and one senior (Dalton) We will just have to waite and see. I hope Williamsburg, Whitley, and Corbin all get there. I wish Daltons brother was a freshman he would be a hell of a back up to Dalton but he will only be in the 8th grade, Dalton is tough he won't get hurt

Wow, that's a heck of a prediction. Won't get get hurt cause he is tough? Ask that to the best that have been. I hope he doesn't get hurt either but its football and the next play is not a given for sure.

1. Yes, run right, run left. Its not my fault we hired Black. He definitely wasn't my first choice.

2. I would imagine its lynn camp since both teams played them every year until last year. Also, both teams killed them almostg every single year, so i dont understand your point.

3. Yes, i remember it. It was the best team Wburg ever fielded. With Black as the head coach. And yet, they still got beat by Pikeville in the region championship at home.

4. You tell me, is winning the times tribune coach of the year, with there wonderful writers (all 4 of them) picking it, really a accomplishment? If you notice, i said nothing about the others.

5. Congratualations. You coach is a winner. Atleast until Region championship time. He has no excuses this year. Wburg should fly by that region, even Hazard, so anything less would be a huge disspointment.

And as for stupid post comment, im not here to please anyone. Its a debate. As long as someone talks to me like there an adult, i will go on all day.
The problem a lot of people have when trying to debate me is talking about Whitley. 99% of posters get mad when you talk badly about our school. Not this guy. Talk bad all you want. The politics of it makes me sick, and when we suck, im the first one to say so. Doesnt hurt my feeling either way.

ritug I think you are pulling my leg, Lynn Camp killed you and as usual Williamsburg killed Lynn Camp. Be that as it may even you can't make me anti Whitley. GO JACKETS GO HOUNDS GO COLONELS.

Whitley lost to Lynn Camp twice from 1990 to 2012.
One was 2005 and the other was 2007.
Wburg won the 2007, but got beat in 2005.

So, in 22 years, Whitley lost to Lynn Camp twice. How many times did Wburg lose to them in that same amount of time?
And you said it was the LAST time the two both played them.
Whitley beat the last five years before LC ended the series this year.

So, again, your clueless.

riutg I GOT UPSET WITH YOU OVER SOME POST I APOLOGIZE . I THINK BLACK MADE A BIG MISTAKE WHEN HE ABANDON THE PASS HOWEVER I OFTEN WONDER IF iT WAS HIS DOING . THINK ABOUT IT WHO WAS HIS PLAYERS AND WHAT DID THEY DO BEST, AND WHO WAS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO INFLUENCE IT. tHAT PASSING ATTACK WAS HANDED DOWN FROM HAL MUMMY AND GOT TO BLACK BY WAY OF TONY FRANKLIN I WAS THERE. HE TOOK TWO COACHES WITH HIM HATCHER THAT HE HIRED FROM WC AND DARRELL WOODS WHO WAS AT WILLIAMSBURG WITH OUT IT THE PASSING OFFENCE HE HAD NOTHING. COACH HERRON CAME ALONG LATER HE CAME FROM WC. I HOPE THAT BOTH SCHOOLS DO WELL THIS YEAR AND AT THE END OF THE SEASON WE CAN ALL SAY WE ENJOYED IT. SORRY RIUTG I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RUDE HOWEVER COACH HERRON PROBABLY HAS THE BEST RECORD AT THIS STAGE IN HIS COACHING FUTURE THAN ANY COACH IN THE STATE . HE IS PROBABLY THE LOWEST PAID AND HAS THE SMALLEST SCHOOL THAT PLAYS FOOTBALL IN KY, AND HAS THE SMALLEST BUGET AND THE BEST WATERBOY.

Agreed. Theres no reason to get upset. Its a simple discussion.
I wish Wburg nothing but the best, it just irks me when Wburg, Corbin, and Whitley ever get compared when they never should be.
The school sizes are to different and all three schools are completely different when it comes to the administrations.

I do think it was Black that decided to go to the option, maybe with a little influence, maybe not. Although it may not be as effective, especially with a younger team, as the passing game is against schools around here, i really enjoy the triple option offense. I dont know of another team in the state that runs the same type of offense that Whitley does. There may be some teams that run the option, but rarely do you see the flex and jet sweeps out of it like you do at Whitley.
I would imagine Herrons pay isnt that great, but i would imagine its on par with other small schools. As far as budget, i think Wburg does okay for there school size. There facilities are pretty good for a school that size.

The real question i think Wburg is going to have to be concerned about is whether or not Herron will leave. His offense would do really well at a larger school where hed have his pick of athletes. I wonder if Corbin would be interested once they finally get rid of Jewell...

Thompson has won district coach of the year 6 out of the last 9 years. They aren't considered a Mountain school because they aren't covered by WYMT. They are 19 and 5 over the last two years.

Not saying I disagree...as there are some schools who simply would require Extreme Makeover Football Edition to even be remotely competitive.... but Dudley Hilton did go to Bourbon County and lead them to a State Title almost instantaneously.

There are certainly lost cause programs who I don't think any coach could forseeably be successful at...but there are also programs who are historically weak that simply have not had the luxury of a figurehead to show them how it is supposed to be done from the feeder system up to the athletic director.

A lot of schools just have a stigma about their program that kids simply don't want to play because they know they will lose. With a rejuvenation from a legendary coach, a tried and true system in place for practice, and some thought out scheduling I think there is more truth to his statement then you realize. I don't think this just applies to Haywood either...there are several coaches who I think have the clout to instantly propel a program a few steps without running a single practice.
#84
Mccreary Central would be one of the hardest schools to win at i would imagine.
In a county with almost nothing, kind of like Jackson County, its hard to get kids motivated to do anything. Drugs have seemed to be a problem there for a long time as well.
Ive seen several decent coaches go into that program and fail miserably.
No support, no money, no kids to play with. Thats a disaster recipe for a 3A school in a district with Corbin, Bell and Wayne.

Whats kind of surprising is that there have been some good basketball teams come through there. I know theres a big difference in the two, but someone managed to make that work.

If it werent for the Watts years at MC, im not sure MC would have won more than 20 games in the last 10 years.

District Coach of the Year 6 times? Are you sure? Wayne County has never won a championship of any kind under Thompson. No District, Region, anything, right?

I know that he won District Coach of the Year in 2010--even though Robbie Lucas coached Somerset to a 13-1 record that year.

Some schools you just cant win at no matter how well youve done or who you are. Black brought in the same passing attack (that Herron learned from black) and tried to use it at Whitley. After posting a couple of 2-8 years, he switched to the option and won district, region, and went 12-2.

Its about what kind of kids youve got and what offense you can use with them. Good coaches figure that out. Most coaches around here have come to accept the fact that they can pass or they cant. Others dont know how to teach the passing game so they dont bother. Black had a passing machine while at Wburg, and Greers numbers there prove that. Herron still uses most of Blacks plays today with his own little tweaks to them.
With that said, my point is, even though he is a passing mastermind, he knows he cant do it at Whitley. Id love to see it, and we have kids who can throw and catch the ball, but its the other teams thats mor difficult to pull it off against and all you do is end up throwing picks.

It really blows my mind how people have no idea what goes on. Like stated before it was not coach blacks offense and the offense he brought to whitely was the Tony Franklin system ... similar but not the same. Also coach black left his biggest asset behind when he went to Whitley coach woods ... Who ran the offense at williamsburg which made coach black look good. Also he never did great at williamsburg just one year .. he did anything... the rest where 4-5 7-4 then 11-1 then 4-6 almost like whitley. So by the looks of it is the only way he can win if he has a abundance of talent ... Now on the other hand coach herron has had many great years and many districts with many different qbs and wr's. Black one great year one decent year the rest terrible years ...

He may make it too complicated at times, but Jewell knows his football. Corbin will do much better now that his brother is no longer on the staff and Duncum is.
