Prestonsburg's keys to Success
#31
campbell Wrote:#1 blackcat fan and bearcat88 I have coached against Williams for four years now he was hands down the hardest kid to have to scheme against and try to take care of and trust me we have played the Caleb Watkins, Storm Wilsons and Corey davenports. As far as it goes to the coaching staff adjusting that won't happen they haven't adjusted the past four years what Burchett, crisp, and jarrell have all ran the same stuff nothing has changed. They have ran the same 10 plays out of about 5 formations. Burchett had so much success cause he wasn't afraid of going away from the system but that what happens when you get a d1 athlete with a d1 arm. Crisp had a d1 arm but not athletic enough to play NAIA football, and jarrell isn't close to having a d1 arm and he is to small to play the position after high school. If it wasn't for Williams, grant Anderson wouldn't of played and I know that without a doubt is true because I heard that from a very reliable source. Same thing happened in basketball with the hall kid wanting to quit but Williams talked to him and convinced him to stay. If that's not leadership and caring for the team idk what is and he must of been a pretty strong leader for that senior class to make him the speaking captain for every game.

Campbell I knew you would take it out of context is why I stated for you not to twice in the prior post. Bryson is an irreplaceable player and producer, but IMO was not a team leader. We will just have to agree to disagree on that. Don't take offense to the post its just my opinion. Love the kid to death. One of the best players to ever wear the uniform. Just not a leader.

Up yours Confusedhh:Middlesboro was a very good young team last year. an was a good win for p'burg 64sur

I hope Jarrell reads Campbell's post. There is nothing better to motivate a player. I'm sure people said that Drew Brees arm wasn't strong enough & he wasn't tall enough to pay DI ball. He proved them wrong by winning the Super Bowl and winning MVPs, ect... I've watched Jarrell play ball for years & he is a player. I don't care how big he is. He is one of the best QB's in Ky. I live in Pburg & I'm so happy he is playin for the Blackcats.

Campbell Willams.........the only waterboy who can run a 4.6 40.....

Just to clear something up from a prior post by someone. I found out from a very reliable source Dalton turned 16 in May of this year. Plenty of room to grow the next 3 seasons.

Good luck this year Blackcats!!

I don't get the one & done comment. Prestonsburg has lost the 1st game of the playoffs only 3 times in the past 15 years. It is not a regular occurrence.

It wasn't to reflect history. I just see the opposite district very talented and probably the toughest district in 2A. All four teams in district 7 are capable and may advance past the district 8 teams this year.

Thanks for the explanation. I can agree with you on district 7. They will be tough top to bottom.

Has Anderson shown up yet?

I saw in the paper today he is still playing baseball with an all star team. The paper also stated he was getting several D1 looks in baseball.

Great job Grant. Look forward to seeing you on the football field soon.

Hearing through the grapevine that Grant may indeed forego his senior football season to concentrate full time on baseball. There is no question the kid is a D1 baseball talent.

Tough call for Grant and his family (although I would agree with). HUGE loss for the Blackcats if true.
#41
Without Anderson Prestonsburg will have a tough time this season.
#42
If this turns out to be true, best of luck to him fulfilling his baseball dream. On the football side, he will be missed but another opportunity for someone to step up and get valuable field experience. Blackcats have always lost great players to graduation or for other reasons and there has always been someone that filled that spot. This too will pass. This will give a younger player the opportunity to play and get better. We will have to wait and see on how this affects the Blackcats. We will have to wait and see, but I am sure the coaching staff has prepared for this. Again, if this is true, best of luck in his endeavors.

Wow, that would be a huge loss. Hope he decides to play. As others have said though, if not it would give someone else a chance to step in and make plays.

Good luck either way Grant. Would love to see you on the field though. Very exciting player to watch when he gets the ball.

If I am not mistaken, this conversation has came up the past couple of years, regarding Anderson. I don't know Anderson, but with this being his senior year, I find it hard to believe he will not be playing. Either way, I wish him the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do.
#45
Guys, instead of wishing Anderson would play for your own personal gratification, why not be happy for the kid, school and community on the potential D1 baseball offers and encourage him to pursue his dreams. A district and regional championship in football isn't worth the risk of a colligate baseball career and free education.

Everyone has wished him luck in whatever he decides to do. We are happy for the kid. We cant help if we enjoy watching him play football also. I don't think there is anyone not happy for him.

No one needs to question Anderson's toughness. He came back from an injury his Sophmore year that still makes me cringe and shudder every time I think about it. If he forgoes football to concentrate on baseball that is his choice alone. The blackcats will be okay with him or without him. I wish him the best in whatever he does

I agree. Not to mention he played over a quarter after the injury, and only came out when forced to. I don't think anyone has questioned that though. If they did I missed it.

With Anderson / Without Anderson
Pikeville – W / L
Sheldon Clark – W
Knox Co. – L
Powell Co. – W
Pike Cent. – W
Betsy Layne – W / L
Hazard – L
Shelby Valley – W
Leslie Co. – W / L
Lawrence Co – L

He has that type of game changing potential to go from a 7-3 season to a possible 4-6 season.

So, you think Betsy Layne is better than Pike Cental and SC?? Ok:lmao:

I can't wait to watch some of you guys eat crow!!
#51
Didn't SC lose a couple of kids to JC? They lost some good players to graduation. Is this year expected to be a good one for the Cardinals?
#52
They will not be as good as they were originally expected but they still have some very good players. They are still much better than Betsy Layne. I also think they will beat LC.

Prestonsburg will miss Anderson but you can expect them to find guys to step up.
#53
Leslie Co. will be better than they were last season, in my opinion.
#54
Is Anderson for sure not playing football this year?
#55
Simple. Get back to P-burg football and run the ball down people's throats. When did P-burg become a spread offense with the athletes to be successful year in and year out. Run the damn ball!!
#56
Prestonsburg is still got tradition and a slew of good athletes. They will be fine, running the ball will be key for them. With or without Anderson.
#57
Just saw part of the media day broadcast on the local access channel. 2 seniors, a slew of juniors and sophmores and a few freshmen. Should be an interesting year. Love the Blackcats, especially the new uniforms. Heard the uniforms are for veteran appreciation and will only be use for one game. They look sharp.

That is true hawg. Any veteran will also get free admission to the game. All veterans will be honored either before the game or at halftime. The jerseys will be sold after the game and all proceeds will go to a veteran charity.

Everyone come out on August 23rd & support the veterans, and enjoy a great game.
#59
They have deep pockets....that's good for the players and fans..
#60
Did they have to get approval from the KHSAA to wear those uniforms? Who other than the kid wearing the uniform would wan to buy it especially the pants. The gesture sounds good in theory but not sure it will be sucessful.
