Kyle Wiltjer to transfer From UK

also here is a letter from Kyle to the BBN
http://www.ukathletics.com/blog/2013/06/...ltjer.html

Big Blue Nation,

I would like to take this moment to thank Coach Cal, the entire staff, my teammates and the BBN for a memorable two years thus far.

Heading into college my dream was to win a National Championship and compete with and play against the best players in the country. Without a doubt, I accomplished both of these goals in my two years at Kentucky. Now as I head into my junior year, I recognize that my new and adjusted goals require me to make some very difficult upcoming decisions. Coach Cal has been everything I expected him to be, as I have felt very comfortable talking with him about my situation. I cannot stress enough how supportive Coach has been during this period. He is more than a coach to me, and for that I am forever grateful.

During this next year, I will be working on my body so that I am able to compete the way I know I can. I want to find a situation that will help me do this as well as play a more significant role, wherever that may be. Even though I might physically leave Lexington, I will never forget the support and kindness that everyone has shown my family and me. It is difficult to put into words how hard it is to possibly leave BBN, yet I am confident that whatever I choose, I will give it my all. Regardless, I will always bleed blue and will never forget these amazing last two years at Kentucky.

Thank You,

Kyle Wiltjer

Goes to show what so many thought of wiltjer. He didn't have the character and leadership to fill the role of a veteran leader. He is a player that can ride the coattails of stars and occasionally get a hot hand. It's sad to say cause with a little more determination in the face of adversity he could've achieved a lot on the floor. On the bright side at least we won't have to see him be the worst defender on the floor.

Kyle Wiltjer, a McDonald's All-American two years ago, announced Monday afternoon that he is thinking about transferring out of Kentucky.

Wiltjer, an Oregon native, averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in just under 24 minutes per game last season. He was unable to crack into UK's starting lineup during his two seasons of college hoops in Lexington, though he did win the Sixth Man of the Year award in the SEC last season.

Kentucky coach John Calipari broke the Wiltjer news late Monday afternoon on his website. Calipari spoke with Wiltjer after the player's training with the Canadian National Team in recent weeks, which included a trip to China for exhibition basketball that concluded over the weekend.

"After playing with Canada, Kyle feels like he could have a more prominent role in another program than he might have with us next season," Calipari wrote. "He expressed to me that that's the kind of situation he wants to be in for his last two years of eligibility. For his future, he may be right."

Wiltjer has not definitely decided to leave the program; both Calipari's blog post and Wiltjer's letter to Kentucky fans stop short of definitively announcing a departure. But it appears to be close to happening, that it could just be a matter of where Wiltjer could/would go if he left UK.

"No one should feel that they have to leave after a year or they've failed," Calipari added. "Many will leave after a year, but that's their path. Others will stay four years, but that's their path. Kyle's choice to explore options at another school disappoints me, but it's his decision at the end of the day, and I fully support his decision. ... Anytime a player doesn't feel like he can achieve those dreams with us, I feel like we've failed him, not that he's failed us. I told Kyle I'll play whatever part he wants in his transfer, whether that's being involved and calling other schools on his behalf or not being involved in any way. He expressed to me that he needs my help and advice, which I will give. Whatever Kyle chooses -- and I still hope he ends up back with us -- I wish him and his family the best of luck."

Wiltjer's letter explains a big reason behind this decision: adjustment of his game and maturation of his body. The forward is a talent, but an awkward one, with a ways to go before he can be a well-rounded college player.

In addition to this, Kentucky has what's considered to be one of the best high school classes in college hoops history coming to campus. Julius Randle, James Young, Willie Cauley-Stein, Alex Poythress and Marcus Lee will all be getting a lot of playing time. UK's big men will be imposing and most likely much more ready than last year's group that only managed an NIT berth.

Translation: Wiltjer's minutes -- and production -- could be vulnerable to dipping.

"During this next year, I will be working on my body so that I am able to compete the way I know I can," Wiltjer wrote. "I want to find a situation that will help me do this as well as play a more significant role, wherever that may be. Even though I might physically leave Lexington, I will never forget the support and kindness that everyone has shown my family and me."

Wiltjer, if he does opt to leave, would almost certainly have to sit out for the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

BBBBBBBOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

My dreams have come true.
The softest player in the history of the game is officially gone, unless he changes his mind.

I called this out from the get go. Ive said several times he doesnt have the balls to lead a team, nor will he ever.

Another one thrown into the dumper.

He was a class act and I was glad to have him be a part of the wildcats. He might not have been the star player a lot of fans expect from every player, but was a good kid to have come off the bench. The way some fans want to rip this kid is crazy and the should be ashamed to call themselves UK fans. UK was lucky to have a this young man represent them, he was a class act and a good (not great) ball player.

Bye Kyle.
Gonzaga is more your speed.
#12
He'll be a lot more involved in Gonzaga.

I'm not saying he's going to be POY or anything...
but he comes from the mold that really thrives up in Spokane.

Morrison, Olynyk and now Wiltjer.

We'll gladly take another offensive threat, but it isn't what the zags need.
#13
Gonzaga is a great fit for Wiltjer. Kyle spending the whole summer with Pargos from Gonzaga this comes as no shock going back out to the west coast.
#14
He's from Oregon so he'll be close to home as well.

Wiltjer has a chance to be a stud at a school like Gonzaga.
He's got a really versatile offensive game and the Zags defensive scheme is very team-oriented.

If he works hard, he could drop 20+ per game in the WCC.
#15
I'm confused on how I feel about this....
I like Wiltjer, but then I don't. I feel like he didn't want to step up or something.

That says it all right there....

I'm sure he'll just be relieved to be out of the NIT this year

If Wiltjer was a "stud" at Pikeville, theyd be embarrassed.

I would imagine a 12 year old girl could whip him with ease.

Kyle has one national championship. That's one more than gonzaga.

Best of luck to Kyle, seems like a really nice kid, hope he does very well wherever he ends up.

I think he was a top 20 player coming out of High School and everyone was creaming their pants about him on here.

No one even remotely comprehends how good these guys are.

I guarantee that if five of you "scouts" on here tried to play Alice Lloyd's JV that you would get COOKED. It wouldn't even be a game.

Wiltjer could play with Pikeville and could probably drop 50 on any given night.

Heck, I've sat and watched Patrick Sparks drop 100+ on some 14th Region players. That's right... No one misread that... 100 freaking points.

I grantee Wiltger has played WAY harder opponents than runitupthegut, saying a 12 year old girl could beat him up with ease is a little over dramatic.

Good post. UK fans are worst a praising a player and than turn around an bash the same player for leaving or transferring. Wiljter was a top 25 player coming out of HS, offers from schools like UK, Kansas, Texas, Cal, Georgia Tech, others. Kyle would kill NAIA completion. I would almost bet anything if I was a betting man that there is not one single poster on this forum that could beat Wiltjer in a 3point contest. If Gonzaga lands Wiltjer that has to make you feel great and easy for you to remind these bashers what a player UK is losing.

So has that what its come to? After being so wrong about something, the only option is to reference how BGR posters would fare in a college basektball game against Wiltjer and the mighty Alice Llyod JV team?
:biglmao: You all crack me up.

Ive disliked this kid since day one. Ive got 4000 post to prove it. Hes weak. Hes soft. Hes horrible. Its that simple. Not one time has anyone on here mentioned they could "play" a game with him and win. The point is he sucks against the competetion he has to play against.

Im GLAD hes gone. Bye Bye Kylie

I wish Kyle nothing but the best because he did nothing but help us while he was here except on defense. But I would have really enjoyed watching him knock 3 after 3 down in Rupp Arena this year on his way to his second ring but you can't blame him for wanting to transfer and become more involved in a team. Because he knew, like everyone else knew he wouldn't see much of the floor.
If you need any assistance or want to report a problem feel free to PM me and we will get it taken care of!  Thank you for choosing to be apart of the BGR community!

Looks like Kyle maybe having second thoughts. Him and Coach Cal are still talking/texting. Kyle knows the only way he has a chance at winning another national championship is at Kentucky. Would he be willing to give up playing time for a national championship? It's not like he's going to the pro's or anything. Not to knock him

Eric Murphy just got drafted in te second by your Bulls, if he can get drafted than so could Wiltjer. Those two are basically the same player.

He may go pro but when next year's draft, it's gonna be hard too. They are reports out this morning that his dad is saying that Kyle is still a Wildcat and may return and redshirt
