Lawrence County Bulldogs 2013
#1
I don't know what kind of a team the Bulldogs will have next year but I do know that we return just about everybody. We only had about 6 seniors this year I think and that is pretty low for a 3a school. We had a lot of freshman and sophomores see some good play time this season. This was about as young a team as I ever remember Lawrence County having. I don't have a Lawrence County roster in front of me at the moment but if anyone does maybe you can give a list of the players returning.
#2
The Bulldogs will return 8 starters on both sides of the ball. They return they entire backfield with quarterback A.J. Cyrus, fullback Ricky Goble, and tailback Morgan O' Brian who was injured. Also, coming up will be a talented 8th grade team. Should be a good year, need to hit the weights some more and I'm sure they are working on that.
#3
If they get in the weight room and really put forth the effort should be a really good football team.
#4
The injury bug killed Lawrence County last year. Looking forward to a good season. I can't wait to see Short's version of the belly next year. I have no doubt they'll be capable of putting some points on the board. Hopeful the defense can step it up a notch.
#5
They lost the prince kid out of the backfield morgan not going to be ready for football after knee surgery several other starters from last year not sure if they are playing football sounds like they are going to concentrate on baseball. Looks to be another long year of up the middle.
#6
I wish this program could get back and stay on solid ground.
#7
rumors are only about 10 kids are showing up for summer lifting/conditioning..
#8
I hope they get more kids out. It's a bad situation in the Dawg House.
#9
^june is overrated. Lawrence will be better and the kids will be out. All will continue to get better in Louisa.

hahahaha June is far from overrated. Its one of the most important months of the whole season!!! Getting stronger, in shape, and speed drills is what lays the foundation for a championship team. Go ahead and take June off, see what happens when season comes.
#11
Any good football program has a foundation which requires kids to work hard in the off season and in the weight room. In order to get better, you have to put in the time and effort to get stronger, quicker, etc.
#12
What's the problem?

The same that would happen if you went 5 days a week for 4 hrs a day...

L.C. will be much improved this season. L.C. got better as the year went on last year and beat a pretty decent Morgan Co. team in the play-offs. Cyrus at QB is the real deal! Problem that LC has is the same problem everyone has in 3A besides Central...... Belfry.

I guess this is why they was cramping all over the field last time we played them. Confusednicker:

I heard about that game. All the Pburg fans said they were cheating. Which happens everytime they lose. :lame:

I guess we should have laid on the field between each play and rested. It sure worked for The Bulldogs.:biglmao:
#18
Good luck this season ....

Lawrence will be fine. School Admin. nailed it; Lawrence's biggest problem is Belfry. June doesn't fix that problem.

I've never understood coaches getting torn up over June attendance or lack of. Heck, even Division 1 schools send their players home during the entire month May.

The lower level (Div. 2, Div 3 and NAIA) schools have most of their kids go home for almost 3 months and HOPE that 50% of them actually do 50% of the workouts.

Why HS coaches get torn up over low numbers in June and/or taking off for a 2 week dead period is beyond me. Sends off a good perception I guess....

Looks like some are still making excuses and hanging on to the cheating accusations. :lame:

I thought it was a great strategy and well used.

If you look at Lawrence County's schedule which has changed from the past two years there are some games they can win. Belfry, Fairview will be the two toughest. I don't know how Breathitt, Pike Central, Boys, or Rowan is this year.
#23
Aug 23, 13 Boyd County home 7:30 PM
Aug 30, 13 Rowan County away 7:30 PM
Sep 6, 13 Fairview home 7:30 PM
Sep 13, 13 Breathitt County home 7:30 PM
Sep 20, 13 East Carter home 7:30 PM
Sep 27, 13 Raceland away 7:30 PM
Oct 4, 13 Sheldon Clark home 7:30 PM
Oct 11, 13 Pike County Central away 7:30 PM
Oct 18, 13 Belfry away 7:30 PM
Nov 1, 13 Prestonsburg away 7:30 PM

If Lawrence can get it together, they're completely capable of knocking Breathitt off in the playoffs and getting the chance to play for a regional title.

And I can never understand why some kids who had potential talent to play at a higher level didn't take advantage of all the "June" sessions during their high school careers and wasted away a good opportunity. Just an observation I guess...

I agree... Breathitt still may not even have a coach yet. With Lawrence County's experience returning from a team who wasn't necessarily a "bad" team last year, they have a very good shot at being the 2 Seed in the District. The Breathitt District is very weak and with all the turmoil in Jackson, alongside from what is already a rebuilding year, the Bobcats are seemingly ripe for the picking for whichever team earns that 2 seed.

That's what I would be frustrated about. Even if Belfry is in your way, a Regional Final birth is definitely tangible and right there for the taking. Once you get to Round 3 the young Bulldogs will basically a have an entire additional year of experience under their belts and anything can happen in a win or go home game. To get yourself in that position it requires buying in early though.

June has nothing to do with it. But, it sounds good...so keep rocking that.

No one said anything about cheating in this thread Cooter. We simply could not stop the run game. Although it is frustrating when your team is in better shape than the other and the game is held up every other play by the out of shape oppenent. It was mentioned in this thread by a Bulldog fan about the low turn out for practice in the off season.

Prestonsburg may not be bigger or stronger than most their competition, but i can guarantee you they are in better shape.

If Lawrence Co was in shape for that particular game they win by 2 td's.

From an old school type philosophy the way you beat the Belfry's and the top tier teams is by making a deposit. And that's done in the off season in other words you can't wait till Friday and hope you win. You come out in the summer become a team put in the time and on Friday night you then know you have done every thing possible and you walk on the field and expect to win in other words cash in the deposit. That's how you become a champ just look at Belfry and you will know what I'm try to say here. Good Luck to the Dawgs I'm looking forward to see how things goes this year.
