Rank 15th Region as of 1/28/06

If you consider SF as a good team and lost to P-burg by 18, then what is Johnson Central and Pike Central. These 2 teams gave P-burg a better game than SF. Don't get me wrong, SF is good when they are hitting shots, but when the shots arent falling (and they won't more than they will) then they are hurting. You take a team like Prestonsburg, and the two Centrals (Johnson and Pike) who rely on the inside game. They will be much more difficult to stop.

"Football_Freak" Wrote:1. South Floyd-played a tough scheldule and it is starting to pay off, also just won the All A Classic.

2. Paintsville-game Sf all they wanted in the All A, have beaten some really good teams but also lost to some weak teams.

3. Prestonsburg-Playing very good as of late, but still havent won enough to make up for some early seasons loses they have had.

4. Belfry-Very good team that is loaded with talent, but at the same time they are very inconsistent. In my eyes the bad lose to East Ridge droped them a few spots

5. Pike Central-They have the best player in the region in Brad Lowe and will competitive in every game they play.
Hate to ruin your rankings, but MCHS did not beat Paintsville....Confusedhithappe

6. Johnson Central-Could be Top 3 in the region if they get it all together but they are only a average team right now. Have won some impressive games, but also lost quite a few 2.

7. Magoffin Co.-Have played with every team they have played this year. Upset a very good Paintsville team at Paintsville. Loaded with talent and are not a easy win for anyone.

8. Lawrence Co.-Dont know alot about them, but do know they play in a very tough 57th district, and have had some good wins over some good teams but some even worse loses over some teams they shouldnt get beat by.

9. Phelps- are a dangerous team that can cause some teams problems when they get completely healthy. They had a good showing in the All A against Shelby Valley.

10. Sheldon Clark- Have the talent to beat anyone in the region, but cant get it together to lose so. They lost in the first round on the All A to Allen Central which droped them even more. They are still a tough team to play though, especially if they start playing as a team and using there talent.

P-Burg defeated Pike Central by 3 or so, without Brad Lowe and on their home court. Lowe got injured and missed almost the whole game. If Lowe plays, that's a 30-point turn-a-round and PC blows P-Burg out. Don't get me wrong, they've been playing as hot as anyone in the region as of late, but Lowe missed the majority of the game and they still barely squeaked by. I think some of you guys are giving them way too much credit, just ask a 4-win Betsy Layne team.

You have a good point, and I replied in PCC and Prestonsburg thread the same way. With Lowe out PCC relied on each other to do the scoring, they moved the ball awesome, are very quick, and can run the floor. Now, if Lowe was playing, take away the team effort and give the majority of the shots to Lowe. You figure it out.
#36
Could a mod please fix this, I didn't mean to do that.
#37
It wasnt like Pike County Central missed many shots, they didnt. They were shooting the lights out. They played great.
#38
You guys kill me thinking Pburg is so great when they barely got by Pike Central, without there best player Brad Lowe who is putting up 30 a game..There is no way u can honestly say had Brad played the whole game it would have been the same scenario...Please, gimme a break...
#39
It may be that way with teams that only base their acomplishments on one player, but when you have a team like PC who has many talented players, then it doesnt hurt a team nearly as bad. Yes Brad Lowe averages 30 a game, but who's to say Brad would score that many? Who's to say that with Brad shooting as many shots as he does, that he would contribute to other players? You will never know and I don't think it really matters whether he plays or not. Same outcome.

Currently my top 10 would be (top 4 shifted 3 times looking at good wins/bad losses):
1. P-Burg - 7 wins in a row against region foes, bad losses early
2. SF - Dominant in region, won all-A, losses against good competition
3. Belfry - Also dominant in region, bad loss to ER
4. Pike Central - Great Player, good in region, 2 losses in region out of last 3
5. JC - Talented when motivated, bad losses in region as of late
6. Paintsville - Talented, but young, erratic, solid against region foes
7. ER - Good turnaround lately, can win against top teams
8. Phelps - Good overall record, mediocre region record, questionable scheduling
9. Shelby Valley - Who knows what to expect
10. Lawrence County - Can win against top teams, but can lose against bottom teams

ok i read this and i was like good point and then i read about the brad lowe thing and was like well this guy contradicted hiself cuz u was like well whos to say brad lowe wouldnt have had a badd game well if u think back to the sf game...they played absolutely horrible, and that couldve been the reason for the 18, people can have bad games....im sure the raiders will be ready to PHS at home....
#43
DAve Cantrall's Ratings - Not horrible given the +- 3 for error (could be +-5, can't recall). Also most of these polls are based on neutral floor so add another +- 3 for home court. Basically he says anyone from LC (maybe to Magoffin Co) up should be able to beat any other team at home. I can agree with that in this region.

15TH REGION
1. Paintsville 64.3
2. Prestonsburg 60.6
3. Pike Central 60.4
4. Johnson Central 60.2
5. Belfry 59.5
5. Shelby Valley 59.5
7. South Floyd 58.9
8. East Ridge 57.7
9. Lawrence County 55.4
10. Sheldon Clark 53.2
11. Betsy Layne 52.1
12. Magoffin County 51.8
13. Allen Central 49.2
14. Phelps 48.6
15. Pikeville 48.1
16. Piarist 15.2
17. David School 1.
#44
How could you still possibly rank South Floyd 7th, and Paintsville 1st?
#45
That list is horrible

There is no way Piarist can possibly be over Pikeville, Magoffin, Betsy Layne or Allen Central. Yeah sure they have more wins but look who they have played. What David 5 times? All those teams have played tougher schedules and could beat Piarsit on a bad day I would have Piarist 16 and everyone else up a spot.

Brad Lowe may be averaging 30 a game, I agree, but I can guarantee you this, Hess isn't averaging 15. Also, I'm willing to bet almost anything that Hamilton and Ratliff aren't putting up 20 + a game either, if so, that would be 85 points between 4 players, hail Pike Central!

Lets see here They beat Paintsville and then only lost by a couple to them the following week , Then they have beat Johnson 'Central also they beat Shelby Valley and just lost by a couple to Sheldon Clark and Belfry. How they are not in the Top 10 in the region is beyond me.

They are 4-5 in the Region and 3-3 in the District.

I think you are talking about Dave Cantrall's rating from the Herald Leader?? Based on whatever his computer tells him, Paintsville has a higher rating. I don't know if he accounts for head to head though.

Given the margin for error though on the computer rankings, every school from about 9 or 10 could win on any given night. I can agree with that although I don't agree with the order he has them. My list was after that. I think I put P-Burg on top, SF second and Belfry third. That could change my the end of the week given the parity in the 15th.
#55
I put LC in the top 10, but I am biased a little bit. Go to 3 high schools and you feel a connection to a bunch of teams. Based on thier good wins, they got one step ahead of Sheldon Clark, but I could easily see flipping the 2.

I think as a whole right now the 58th is out playing the 57th.The 15th Region is to close to call.Any of these teams in the top 10 could get on a row and be hard to deal with!!! The time is almost at hand when teams either play or go home. This will be a interesting district and regional tournament.
