When will Breathitt hire new coach?
#31
What is the latest on the head coaching situation? Have they started spring practice yet? If so, how have they looked this spring?

Kyle Moore has been leading the team in practice this spring. Latest I heard is Adam White has looked like the better QB.

Football and basketball jobs should be posted soon if they weren't posted this week. I'd be really surprised if Kyle isn't the football coach and I haven't a clue on the basketball job. I did hear that an interesting name has shown some interest in the basketball but not sure if they will go outside the district to fill the job.

^ What name is that?

I'm not going to say out of respect for the person who told me and the coach who inquired about the job.

It is good to hear that Kyle is the front runner for the job. If he has been leading the team in practice, he deserves to be the coach. I had heard some of the basketball players who didn't play football last year are coming out. Do you know anything about this?

The only one I know of for sure is Braxton Whitmore. Kyle has him practicing as a receiver but with his athleticism he will almost certainly play in the defensive secondary as well if he stays on the team. Based on what I heard he has looked really good.

Chris Baker is another one of the basketball players. I watched them work out. Looked like Wes Noble and Braxton Whittmore will be the outside receivers, John Keith Collins and Glenn Campbell inside, Adam White at qb, but they were multiple guys in the backfield with White.

I believe the Wittmore kid could be something special for the Bobcats. Although, this will be his first year playing varsity football, he has the size and athletic ability to be a very good WR/DB. He and Noble could give the bobcats two solid deep threats, which would open up the underneath routes for our slot recievers. I believe our line will be solid, with a lot of underclassmen gaining experience last year on the varsity level. I believe White or Grigsby will be solid at the QB position. My biggest concern will once again be at running back position. In my opinion, Fugate played out of position all of last year, due to the fact we didn't have any other options at RB. Fugate performed well, but the Belfry game really exposed our weakness running the football. I believe if Kyle is given the oppurtunity to run the program, he can add to the tradition Coach Holcomb left behind. Good Luck Bobcats!!!!!

They will make a good hire for the Kids.

I believe that Jordan Turner will make a fine RB and that little Collins boy will too if he can get bigger over the summer;not to mention Jon Jon Gilbert.I also believe the little Collins boy could compete for the QB job.
#41
Anything new on the hiring yet? I am also wondering do you think Letcher will be much improved?
#42
As of now, the starting offensive positions are as below:

qb= Adam White
rb= Jon Gilbert
wr's= Wes Noble, James Fletcher Collins, Braxton Whitmore, and Glenn Campbell
ol= AJ Gross, Travis Kidd, Travis Smith, Will Lykins, and Josh Mays

Josh may not start but is practicing at right tackle.

Another running back that has looked pretty good is Jeff Little. I think they look better than last years team did at spring practice. They all seem to get along with each other better.
#44
Also if Kyle gets the job, don't be surprised if Kenneth Shorty Combs runs the defense. He's also been staying and helping with spring practice.

This is good news, considering the fact a lot of people seem to think we may not even win our own district this year. Last years offense was too predictable, and I really do think this year we could be better offensively. Losing Trent is a major blow, but he was our offense. We depended on him too much and it was evident during close games such as Hazard, Somerset, Morgan Co, and our loss at Belfry. Trent can't be replaced, but if the White kid can sling the ball around, the bobcats could be dangerous. I look for big things out of Whitmore,Collins, and Noble this year. How many kids did we have out this spring, and who has been the biggest surprise so far?
#46
I would say in the low 30's as far as skill position players. The biggest surprise to me is how good the timing between White and the receivers. I didn't think the timing ever got right last year due to the fact that Trent ran so much. White won't beat anyone with his legs but he's big and strong enough to get out of pressure, and he has the arm to get the ball through small alleys. The only thing I worry about is he sometimes puts too much gas on short passes. That may lead to some drops or passes going through their hands and getting picked off.

Low thirties is a good number for only skill position players. If White is starting, where are they going to use the Grigsby kid?
#48
Don't know. He's mostly throwing to the younger guys, but he is throwing some with the varsity.
#49
Grigsby will be the starter.Noodler is a White.
#50
Noodler is not a White and if grigsby is the starter why is he not throwing to the starters at practice. Maybe you should watch them practice. Maybe bobcatstuckinpowell is a Grigsby.
#51
I have heard that both are winning the QB battle from different people, so right now I wouldn't take any of these postings too serious. I know the Grigsby kid plays baseball, which would explain why he has not been the main QB in the after school workouts or whatever they are. I say we will have more of a clue when the summer practices roll around and we get to see the pads popping. I could care less which one gets the spot as long as the best player gets the starting position. That is if we ever hire a coach!
#52
Speculation on who the QB will be is pretty premature. Breathitt hasn't hired a HC yet. What the fans and some of the players want may be completely opposite to what a new HC chooses to do.

Someone told me that the Super has been asking about a few coaches from out of state, I think it was WV and TN. Never mentioned Moore as a candidate as they said the Super was wanting to cut all ties with former staff.
#54
With the state managing Breathitt schools the pay is not going to be near as high as it has been in the past.

Why would he want to cut ties with the former staff? Has something happened? Has nothing to do with results because not many teams have won more in the past several years.

What a mess...How the state state take over has improved the Breathitt County Shcool system..Running off coach H. and firing Denny F., and the baseball coach, trying to send athletes home, for living in the city limits........The kids and community are paying the price for something they are not responsible for...

How can you begin to speculate on who will be playing at what position when they dont even have a coach???..

They dont have enough skill players to piss anyone off at this point, not mention that Kyle is trying to get the job..

I hope this gets resolved quickly for the sake of the kids.....
#57
^ They fired their baseball coach? When did this happen?
#58
Dont know if he was fired.....just know there will be a new coach next year..
#59
Strikeout King Wrote:^ They fired their baseball coach? When did this happen?

The baseball coach and one of the assistants were parents of players and with both of those players graduating they probably didn't want to return anyway.

If my memory is correct they were both asked to coach a couple years ago when the position came open and the school was looking for a coach.

like I said....There will be a new baseball coach next year..and yes things are still a mess!!
