Hammonds from Letcher could be a good fit.
#5
I heard that Wierwille from ERHS was going to apply, was at the College level for a few years under McCoy and Wells at Pikeville, and is lives in the Virgie area.
#6
There is nothing stating that Greg Resign . If so someone post

Greg Napier sent it out on the coaches e-mail server, so I would say Coach Newsome is indeed gone.

With the current hiring freeze in Pike County and the rumor that all non-tenured teachers will not be back, it would almost have to be an in county hire.

So your looking at current Pike County HC's and AC's.

Who has applied for the job ?

I hate to hear this, but knew it was coming. Coach Newsome really thought this group was going to be his next group that could make a run at a few regional championships. Lonnie "Doe Doe" Rowe ruined it for him and spent most of the time trying to ruin him as a coach so he could get the head job. Coach Newsome's only regret is probably ever agreeing to hire him as one of his assistants. He would still be coaching for a few more years if this was the case. The best case scenario for the next coach would be to tell Doe Doe to go somewhere else if he wants to coach or go help his brother with the girls. Sorry Coach Newsome, but enjoy retirement. You have earned it for coaching for so many years!!!

Just went out yesterday evening, so I would say no one yet.

You will know more in 2 weeks.

I don't see how anyone can blame Doe Doe. He was just an assistant, he could only do what the head coach allowed him to do. Its more likely that Newsome just wants out. Doe Doe has been in this community and worked with these boys a long time and loves these kids and this game. If thats not enough look at the girls and see what a Rowe does for basketball. So I'm sorry but I think it would be a shame if Shelby Valley ends up being coached by an outsider. We tried that in football, how much improvement did that make? Pike Central got both football and basketball outsiders several years ago and they still haven't left the region in either. If local boys like Doe Doe aren't good enough to coach why do we hire locals for more important jobs like Principals and Superintendents. And if Wierwille wasn't good enough to get the head coaches job at East Ridge last year why would we look at giving him the head coaches job at Valley this year? From the other parents I've talked to, I don't think valley will have much of a team left at all if politics and outsiders influence this decision.

Doe Doe knows the game very well, and to say he ruin the program is stupid. He put in more time with the kids than what you think. So go complain to someone esle

Shelby Valley is one of the top jobs in eastern Kentucky. Valley can go get a proven coach with a lot of experience. Principal Greg Napier, who is a former basketball coach, knows this and will conduct a statewide or even nationwide search for a coach. With the right coach in place, Shelby Valley has a very good chance at getting to Rupp next season.

The there's a coach right down in Robinson Creek, and I will never truly understand why he has never been asked to help with the program. Mr. Todd May! Give the guy a chance! When he was with Pikeville as a assistant he worked wonders with the Adams kid. He is a former Mr. Basketball and a former NBA draft pick!

I have heard Coach Thacker of Rowan Co may be interested in the opening.....

This is what I am saying. People like Thacker would be great and a proven winner. This is the type of job Valley is (one of the premier in eastern Ky).

Kelly Wells is the first I would call. He may want to get back in for retirement purposes. He could bring Elisha as an assistant and groom him to one day take over.

I believe Wells is on the way up, not down. Look for him to be at Morehead State in a few years.

I heard he turned it down when it was open this past time.

Well might as well give Bobby Osbourne a call. lol just kidding
#25
Coach May doesn't live at Robinson, he lives at Cedar Creek.
#26
I heard from a real good source that David Osbourne would be the new head man soon. Dave will lite a fire under them boys and they will play up to their potential.

This guy? . I didn't know he could coach basketball too. You might have a hard time luring him away from Hyden.

Here are some things worth looking into -

Is there a teaching job to go along with coaching?

I was told no by someone who would know. Remember Pike County has a hiring freeze, I don't see it getting lifted to hire SV a coach, unless it is a bargaining chip in the hire of a new Superintendent.

Will they with someone on staff?

I don't know any of the assistants on staff, but through the network of people I speak with, the staff was part of the problem. No loyalty by some, others only interested in their kid.

Will they allow new hire to "clean house"?

Are they wanting young up and comer or an established coach?

Established coach is my bet, one retired or close to retirement. Pike County has 2-3 young coaches or assistant coaches who look promising but none of them are no where ready for the SV job. Not even close.

There is only one problem with this ball team..well two really. Get rid of the daddy's sitting on the bench. That's the problem. Everyone from SV and the other teams in the region knows this.Thats the problem,, so if I had any say in the matter,, Get Rid Of These Two Coaches and the problem will be solved. Lesson learned here is... Never Let Daddy's Sit on the Bench or Film Games..They are not there to Help these kids improve and win,, they are there to make sure their kid gets playing time. Truth Hurts.. and Everyone knows this is true..
