15th region 2013-14 season
#1
What's everyone's thoughts? 57th district will have 4 or 5 strong teams again.
#2
Johnson Central returns the entire team with 2 back to back Sweet 16 appearances.
#3
I would rank the region
1.jc
2. Lawrence
3. Sheldon Clark
4. East Ridge
5. Shelby Valley
6. Betsy Layne
7. Paintsville
8. Pikeville
9. Magoffin
10. Pike Central

It is not reasonable for ranking teams this early for next season. The team rosters will be completely different when the season begins as will any ranking the region. That is the way it will be from here on out u til the legislature steps in which does not seem likely at this point.
#6
It's really early, but we might as well:
1. Johnson Central
2. Paintsville
3. Sheldon Clark
4. Lawrence County(Pending they don't go to the 16th)
5. Betsy Layne

#11
Johnson Central
Sheldon Clark
Lawrence co
Shelby Valley
East Ridge
#12
My top two are JC and ER.
#13
1-5 57th district
5-16 everyone else

lol
#14
I think with the return of Wolter to East Ridge they should be considered a threat and probable favorite.
#15
1. Johnson Central
2. Sheldon Clark
3. Betsy Layne
4. Lawrence Co.
5. Paintsville

Besides JC its wide open again as every other year haha.
JC can beat anyone in the region.
Sheldon Clark is young and returns alot, this team without kirk can be beat by other teams.
Betsy layne losing Newsome.. think thats it ?
Lawrence Co was young and they play real hard.
Paintsville losing Tiller hurts more than most people realize i believe, had alot of 30 point ball games when the team had 50ish. Tigers are well coached and very very young, will a big scorer step up to take tillers spot is the question ?
Other teams in the running... Wide open again.
Shelby valley didnt hear much about them this year but they return everything I believe, and they are big inside.
Prestonsburg had ALOT of issues this year and only losing Bryson. Should be better this year returning mostly everything.
Pike central can put it together, I think theyll win there district next year.
Magoffin returning pitts i do believe , should be another decent season for them.
Another even 50/50 anyones game season in the 15th i do believe. With the exception of JC winning most of there games.

He is not half of what Randy has coming next season. That is why a ranking cannot be accurate with so many transfers now being eligible to play.
#18
There will be 700 transfers before the start of next season.
#19
^And I HATE it!

How many of these transfers actually helped their teams to state last season?

I can't think of any.

He only had like two all season. But, you are right. Gonna be hard to replace him and Daniels. Both averaged doubles digits this season. I think by mid season Coach will have them coming into their own.

And none when we only had "50ish".

With or without him, East Ridge only loses one senior while returning the rest of the team. They'll be fine either way.

No doubt, there will be more than a few.

Randy McCoy is on a mission to single handily make them change transfer rules.
#24
Johnson Central will be very good and could be a top 10-15 team next year.
#25
It would be a big relief to the 57th if Lawrence County ends back up in the 16th. Brings the district back to 4 teams, but all four will still be very talented.
#26
Randy is not the only one on a mission but he does have more access to transfers from his college experience and also when he was at a private school. He will be bringing in players and no different than what so many others do around the regions. Coaches all over the state will be trying to do this and the KHSAA has zero authority in stopping this from happening. How many were playing in the state tournament this year with transfers? Louisville schools can say what they want and try to maintain they are excluded from any type of recruiting as well as so many county schools in the state but it usually is a falsehood. Did Montgomery County have any or Ballard and Hoptown? East Ridge will be a tough out next year and not just in the 15th. The day of a small community making up a team of local players for the high school is almost a thing of the past unfortunately. A sign of the times whether right or wrong I suppose.

Heres mine pre-season picks
1) JC - no doubt that they'll be winning region again next year
2) Sheldon Clark
3) Shelby Valley - everyone is coming back next year, they should be pretty decent
4) Lawrence County - plays very hard and has a good coach
5) Paintsville
6) Magofin County
7) East ridge - If Wolter plays next year they can easily move up to top 3
8) Pike Central
9) Pikeville
10) Belfry
#28
Next year will be down from Belfry but there should only be 1 senior next year, plus a great class coming up with some size and guard play. So it'll be an experience year and we could be pretty good in 2014-2015. Next year though, probably gonna take some on the chin.

1.Johnson Central
2.Betsy Layne
3.East Ridge
4.Shelby Valley

Ummm you cant compare Louisville schools to the Mountains in terms of transfers. Dont even try. The reason they go to Eastern KY is because it is a backwards culture where judges allow this kids to be eligible since high school basketball is the only exposure their communities get. Its sad, but true.

You think these foreign transfers just happen to land in the backwoods communities of Appalachia? If you think it is for only their well-bring , then you are crazy. They are being funneled their because the community accepts it. Just look at come of these threads. It ALREADY ASSUMED that transfer are coming to the mountains. What a joke. I love how EKY folks hate on the city teams, yet they sell their own soul just for a high school basketball transfer. Maybe they should spend more time shutting down the pill mills instead of bringing in teenage basketball players who dont give a damn about the communtiies. Hell, look at Kasongo. He was shopped around and is now leaving for prep school. That is what... 4 high schools in 4 years? BTW, congrats to Madison Central.
