#7
How do they rank by state championships in the last 20 years?
#8
If not for Shelby Valley the 15th would be right with the other mountain regions!
THE BOTTOM!!!
#9
^I would guess Paintsville is responsible for more of those 15th region wins.

In the last 20 years (since 1993) Paintsville has won 10 state tournament games. Four in 1996, two in 1997, three in 1998, and one in 2008.

Great research. Something else to ponder on within these numbers.

7th Region- Louisville
11th Region- Lexington area
10th Region- Between Lex and NKY
6th Region- Louisville
8th Region- Between Lex, Lou and NKY
4th Region- Bowling Green Area
9th Region- NKY

Or, to sum it all up, all of those regions except for the 4th are all within the "Golden Triangle".

At least not Paintsville and Shelby Valley in their runs.

If Paintsville has 10 of the 20 as stated by Vanhoose, does Valley have the other 10?

JC has 1 in 2000.

Hey Vanhoose what happened to the little guard from Allen Central in early 90s prolly 93 to 95 maybe somewhere through there, think he signed with Wisconsin, where is he at now?

Not JR but Jeremy Hall is the guard, played at Wisconsin then transferred to Pikeville iirc. Last heard he was living in prestonsburg. Man was he a fun player to watch, he had range from anywhere on the court, him and Tim Couch were my favorite two players to watch. They could flat out shoot the lights out, anywhere on the court.

Mix1...

When you talk about the 15th Region, consider this. Region 7 has 3 schools with over 4,000 boys, Trinity, St. X, and Ballard. I'm not even mentioning the other schools who also have big enrollments, but just those three. The 15th Region as a whole will struggle to have 4,000 boys. When you look at it those terms, the 15th has been very competitive in the Sweet 16.

Neither St X, Trinity or Ballard have anywhere close to 4,000 boys. I think Ballard has an enrollment of near 2,000 which would give them about 1,000 boys. I think St X and Trinity have enrollments in the neighborhood of 1,500, of which all are boys.

The advantage of these schools is not huge male enrollments. The advantage is they can get athletes from all over, including Indiana for the Catholic schools. Jefferson County has open enrollment for public schools, which means a kid can go to any public school he wants. Which means Ballard can draw from a population base of 3/4 of a million people.

Great Allen Central team with Jeremy Hall who went to Wisconsin and Thomas Jenkins who played at Morehead State. We had great battles with them in 1994 and 1995.

I meant those 3 schools combined had 4,000 boys as opposed to the entire 15th Region struggling to have 4,000 boys.
