He knew what he was getting into so I'm not too inclined to feel sorry for him.

Not so fast... It appears that Tony Wolter may be back at East Ridge next year for his senior season. Also, we have no way of know what other Canadian kids decide to come to the 15th region for better opportunities.

it wasn't bender, that was kasongo's older brother.

Couldn't agree more... terrible, just terrible. There for a while I thought he only knew how to call a walk, especially if it was on Kasonga. lol

Diogenes Wrote:Was probably Brandon Bender. He's got a lot invested in these kids, I'm sure. Maybe he got home in time to see Sports Overtime and check out the other meal tickets in the 14th highlights.

In all seriousness, I wonder how a high-character guy like Bart Williams could stand that kind of circus. Every coach wants a 6'8" athletic freak, but sometimes you subtract by addition. While I'm sure he would've loved to win a region as much or more than anyone in the building tonight, I imagine he's probably a little glad that business is over, too.

Where does Bender go next? Think the Piarist School would like to be the next basketball power in EKY?

Uh, I think it's more like A LOT GLAD.....or a better term would be, " ABSOLUTELY ELATED".

This was an exciting game to watch. Could have went either way at any time.

Congrats JC

I went to Scout the Hall kid and the Kasongo kid for 3 different colleges.

Hall - This was the 6th time seeing the kid play. He was a little more poised tonight, then the other games. IMO JC needs to just play basketball and let the Hall kid play his game. They focus too much on him and leave the rest of kids standing around. That team is much more talented then being used. As a college scout, there are a few other kids that have potential of getting schollys if used properly. The Hall kid is under too much pressure and needs to have a bit more fun and play his game. He is talented.

Kasongo - The kid obviously has a group against him in East Ky, some deserving, some not. The kid can also play. He was very poised once he got in foul trouble, that impressed me. He obviously needs someone to work with his post game. His footwork was terrible tonight. The kid is a great rebounder and just needs to work on his footwork and shot skills.

Most impressive players of the night: Rowe(Pikeville) and Salyers(JC). Rowe highly impressed me. He is one of the best players I have seen this year that can create space for his jump shot. His jump shot is very smooth as well. Salyers kid looked impressive to me from a Scout Perspective. He did not have the stats in the book, but he is one that I feel could prosper in College if given more looks and in the game plan more.

Was a good game to watch and both Coaches did a good job. Congrats to JC in the finals and I am sure I will be traveling to Eastern KY and watching the Hall kid a few times next year as well.

You really don't know what you are talking about. I will not enlighten you, though keep commenting about 17 yr old kids and their families really classy

This was a good game to watch. The officals are the worst I have seen in a long time, but it was both ways.

I was disappointed in the big man battle. These are talented kids and it was like they were not even on the floor. For the most part, it seemed like it was shoot the three first, then let the big men clean up the garbage. I know both had big scores, but should have been double.

I think it is time to rethinking having the region at the Expo every year. It is not very convienent for the teams north of Prestonsburg. If not for the JC crowd last night, the attendence was not very good. Plenty of gyms scattered aroung big enoough to host.

And you do the same thing every year, crap like this.

That's pathetic. The emotion and passion that those kids play with and their families that care about them have. And that is your comment? Out of all the success of a program that you clearly follow, this is your comment for the year? Like I said, Pathetic. Grow up.

As For the Game, it was probably the best, most intense high school game I have seen since the Paintsville/SV game in 2008. The Expo Center was PACKED. Probably 4,000-4,500 in attendance by the 4th qtr. What a great atmosphere for a game like this. It lived up to its billing. Hall, Rowe, and Kasongo all were on tonight. It was fun to watch, it just so happened that JC was the last team to make a run and that is what did it. Both teams had excellent game plans but someone had to lose. Hate that it was the kids in the Maroon and White.

You had several freshman for Pikeville really play huge: Cody Charles gave great minutes off the bench, Blaine May ignited the Panthers in the 4th qtr, Ryder Johnson continues to mature and did a great job defensively and handling the JC pressure, and Steven Silvers helped the Panthers get out to an early lead knocking down a couple big shots like it was nothing in the 1st qtr. Just really proud of this team and what they have accomplished. 3 straight 20 win seasons for the first time in over 50 years, an All "A" Region Championship for the first time in 20 years, 3 straight 59th District Championships which has only been done one other time in the last 50 years at PHS, Finishing the year winning 18 out of 22, etc, etc... There were plenty of ups and downs and God knows at times it was crazy, but this was a great team to be around. A great mixture of personalities and youth and experience.

It's so hard to say goodbye, in terms of basketball, to a player like Ethan Rowe. He has meant everything to the program. He will leave the 6th All-Time leading Scoring at Pikeville High School, and one of the most decorated players for sure. Can't wait to see him at the next level. His leadership this year was remarkable and will be missed. One of my favorite players to ever have watched. Also, want to thank Ray Kasongo for his contributions to PHS. Many know of all the downs that are associated, but few know of the ups. What a talented player and a fun guy to be around. I think he adjusted pretty well to PHS and hope he has enjoyed his time here. I hope one day to turn on the TV and see him playing at a high level.

Congratulations to Johnson Central, they deserved the win, it wasn't a cheap one, they had to work for it. Good Luck to them tonight. Panthers, just keep your heads up the Pikeville community really appreciates your hard work and effort. Thank you for a great season and keep working hard to get better every day!

As I do for the seniors and team at the unfortunate end of every season, one last great job, and HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Big Don Wrote:Yeah, pikeville has been used! :biglmao:

Agree Pikeville was not used, they used the kids talent to try and win region. Now that it didnt work, would not surprise me one bit that he gets kicked out of school first time he is out of line. Sometimes you gotta be careful what you pray for.

Bart and the administration was warned what they were in for when he transferred. Ironic, how he came to Pikeville in the first place. No recruiting there!

Wonder if accepting all that was entirely his decision, or if somebody in a higher position might've applied a little pressure...

I agree, probably not all his decision....

Do you all think he wasn't for it, all he had to do was say NO! He was hoping to win so people would get off his back! He is the head coach and it was done with his blessing i am sure.

If you are not self employed you do have to answer to someone. You do have bosses, but agree probably at some points wanted him... Most of us would have taken that chance....

If your bosses hint to you that you need to do whatever you can to win, or your job might be in jeopardy, and they know a player like that is available...

Grow up! That's almost as funny as Kasongo's family sitting on the bench. He had 2 of the top 3 players in the region and a pretty decent supporting cast and can't win the region and it the weakest it has been in the past 4 years. Bart might be a good guy but he gets out coached game after game. Maybe if he would develop more than 2 or 3 players and work with the whole team his outcome might be better but he is to worried about getting someone mad.

Fred Taylor, you will never stop. You need to get over your problem w Bart. Pretty sure you are a disgruntled parent and I hate to tell you, your son was not a basketball player. You just need to get over it. Bart didn't ruin his life, he didn't prevent him from any future he may have, he just simply didn't play him because he wasn't good enough to be on the court. Does Bart have favorites? Yes, just like all coaches, the one's who can put the ball in the hole and love the game. Time to let your petty vendetta go, it has just gotten sad at this point.

Brandon Bender must have alot invested in his transfers. How does he do all this basketball mentoring without a day job? He only played semi-pro basketball in Iran and Ukraine for 3 years. Hmm.......seems like somebody is feeding him some cash

Explain how he was out coached that night. Players have to make plays this time of year. They were as prepared as they needed to be. Pikeville was in position to win the game but turnovers beat them down the stretch. Coaches can't play for them. Give it a rest. It was a good game for the most part. Congrats to JC!

Listen if you don't want him get rid of him!!! Bring in one of your chosen ones get beat first round of the district every year and let Bart go somewhere where he will be appreciated at. He is by far at the top of the region of great coaches. He is competitive every year at a single A school. What more would a school want! He got beat by a better team tonight and he had his players in the position to win the game! Maybe you need to put the blame where it should be and sometimes your players need to execute and win the game! Don't cry if you get your wish while you watch Shelby Valley and East Ridge playing in the region year after year!! :Sad04:

I love reading all the Pikeville NO IT ALLS comments after they get beat!

Everything is A OKAY when they win, but when they get beat their coach knows NOTHING!!

Truth is they won 20 games 3 years in a row (first time in FOREVER!) 3 peat District Champs (first time in FOREVER!) Class A region CHAMPS (first time in FOREVER!)

If the refs had not swallowed the whistle the last 2:oo mins. Rowe would have went to line two maybe three times in this spand. However, with the 5th foul he went to the bench and the YOUNG panthers lost their heads. Didn't even get a shot off the last 40 secs.

So, blame Coach, that is the EASY WAY OUT!!! Bart is a GREAT coach, you better be thankful you have him!
