Whitley County 56 Clay County 54 (13th Region)
#1
Final
#2
Clay's run finally ends. First time since 08 we will have a new 13th region champion.
Brandi Smith doing what she does best with the buzzer beater.

I know Whitley will never be at a 100% again, but this team can still be dangerous.
It was a 9 point game at halftime, but Clay fought back, they could just never get the lead.

Whitley advances to the winner of Bell/Lynn Camp.

First time I've seen Whitley County girls play this year. Smith, #20 was freaking AMAZING!! Whitley was hotter than a lit match the first half, and with Clay battling back the way they did, it was lucky for them that they were!!

I don't know what the stats are, but the offense attack was balanced and Whitley went after every single rebound and loose ball.

Congratulations Whitley County!!!

Oh, and P.S. Score of Bell/Lynn Camp at tne end of the first quarter was 6/4....Lynn Camp!! LOL Bell was blowing it up when I left the game though.

This has been a very exciting tournament so far!!!

Props to Whitley.....from Lillian.

Yo Lillian,
Aren't you the same poster who said they suck?? Thanks but no thanks..you can keep your props.....and the Lady Colonels will keep playing!

Whitley hit shots and played hard the whole game. It looked like Clay had no zone offense all night and settled for some bad shots. I don't know the play the girls ran at the end of the game was what Coach Anderson drew up but Smith has ice water in her veins as she drove to the bucket you just knew the Lady Colonels had that one in the bag.

Although Smith made the game winning shot, Powers may have been the player of the game with only ONE turnover (team had six) and she faced tremendous pressure all night long. Whitley had to work so hard one the boards and was only out rebounded by one..25-24.

All in all a great TEAM effort!!

I was just trying to be nice, BUT since you acted like this. You better hope you run the table.....so says Lillian. You will regret this post.

Whitley had a good game plan, but to be honest, they just couldnt miss in the first half.

There isnt any stats online yet, but i believe Whitley went 12-24 from three, which is ridicolous. Smith had 24, Johnson had 15, Craig had 2, and Powers had close to 10 i believe.
For Clay, Madden and Chestnut were opposites in both halfs. In the first half, Chestnut was taking it to Whitley, while Madden was almost non existent, but in the second half thing flipped. I was surprised to see Whitley hold these two at different time. Craig was may have only played 7 or 8 total minutes the whole game due to foul trouble, but Whitleys zone seemed to frustrate Clay and they could never get into rhythm.

Overall, a good game, and saturday, a chance at redemption as a rematch with Bell will happen. The last time these two played, Whitley had a load of players out, but Whitleys getting healthier, and i expect a different game.

I can tell you this from watching this game; 1) I don't believe 12 for 24 from the 3 point line.......Whitley could NOT miss the entire first half.....2) Smith may have only had 24 but with the entire game she played it felt more like 54. This kid handled the ball quite a bit to help out the point guard, AND her defense was gritty and tough.

Smith was absolutely amazing in this game. It may or may not have been her best, but she was incredible..IMO

Congrats to the Lady Colonels! Great Win!! Lillian thanks for the Props!:goofy:

Congrats to Chestnut and Madden for Clay on great careers. Clay's guard play simply wasn't what it has been in the past mainly due to youth. Good luck the rest of the way to Whitley County. They have a nice team!

I think the key stretch of the game was in the third when WC padded their lead and got it up to 11 or 12. Clay got a little shaken at that point, but they regrouped and made a great charge. When it was tied, with less than a minute and WC running clock I thought Powers showed just how important she is to this team. The timeout with 18 seconds left was just a situation where Jones got trapped and he Anderson was forced to take the time out. It really made no difference, everybody in the gym knew who was taking that last shot.

Clay really tried to shake Powers up, and even on one leg she held up pretty well. When they tried to run and jump on a double team on her, she was able to split it or get rid of the ball, and did not allow a turnover and easy baskets in transition for Clay.

Hats off the the Clay Seniors, they had a great run!!!

The Whitley/Bell game should be interesting.
Bell just beat Whitley by 10 a couple of weeks ago, but Whitley didnt have the players they do now being closer to healthy.
