Paul Raines steps down as LCC Football Coach
ok.excuse me then.....moderately successful grade school coach. Still not a resume that inspires confidence.
You forget that most of the kids that came up there when we won district came from whitesburg middle school. Who would take that could get to these kids excited again if Holcomb doesn't take it?

It takes a lot of hard work to be high school football coach I don't know if he would put the time in ask the coaches that helped him .
They need Coach Howard up there I hope Howard does come to LCC. people would see the program built back up.I wish that they would give him a try and I don't think he would disappoint them I really think that Terry Howard could make a different give him a try people.
If he doesn't get it, then bring him on the coaching staff. Would be a good coach for the kids.

mountaincat Wrote:Just because he was a moderately successful peewee coach does not mean he has what it takes to revive this program. No experience at this level of coaching. It's gonna take someone with a little bit of know how and thick skin to rebuild this program. Unlike a certain group of parents, the rest of us do not get giggly at the mention of his name.
Moderately successful...I sincerely doubt that. His record speaks for itself. Hello anyone can inspire a team to win 2 games and have the entire community not interested. Yes, the level of play is different on the HS level, but the motivation needed to play is the same. I am somewhat biased in Coach Howard because he is a friend of mine, but there is no doubt that he would bring energy to the program that has died since Hillard left.
As far as who can be attracted to this job has been diminished over the last two coaching changes and the changing of the guard in central office and the LCSB.

We need someone who cares about the LCC community and developing a program, and not a retirement increase in their portfolio.
Well said man.

cherokee Wrote:Nick Saban couldn't win at LCC, do you ever thing that you have a horrible feeder system, talent pool that is down, and parents blowing smoke up their kids butts telling them how great they are and how stupid the coach is, when they should have been teaching their kids about leadership and team work and unity. Yeah this goes on, I sat in the stands even before Whitaker became head coach and listen to the parents cut him and talking about how the job should have been given to Larry Maggard (whom was part of this year staff and a failure at Jenkins as a head coach). I remember setting beside a parent dogging the coach one night and 2 consecutive TD passes dropped in the end zone by his son, right in his hands but it was still the coachs fault. LCC was formed out of three schools after the 2004 season, those schools in 04 were ( Fleming Neon 0-10), (Letcher 0-10) and ( Whitesburg 2-8) really. Other than Whitesburg being a less than average 2A team their has not been a whole lot of success in that county. Hillard Howard did a good job but it took him 3 years to field a good team, his first 2 year he had a total of 8 wins, 6 of these wins came by beating Evarts,Estill and Evangel Christian. Ozz Jackson the atheletic director is a class guy, that has tried his best to bring in the best coachs available for LCC. If Halcomb comes to LCC, I hope he can turn it around, but it will take some time, and attitude change on the part of the parents, along with adjusting the feeder system to meet the needs of the high schools future. Those people that think Paul Rains and Mike Whitaker are bad coachs must have a hidden agenda against them personally, because their success speaks for it's self. LCC i believe has one more chance to land a top coach, should it not work out again then good luck ever getting another chance. The eyes have turned away from the bad coaching excuses at LCC, so will you blame Halcomb or say he is a bad coach if he don't win in his first 2 season?

I guess this sums it all up, sounds like cherokee knows what he is talking about.
He thinks he does.

Cheroke is Mike Whitaker's Dad, somehow he don't look so smart now does he!!!
hey, I got an idea, how about they ask the PLAYERS for some input!! after all, THEY are the ones that ultimately have to interact with the one that gets it...ask them what they are looking for in a coach, do they want someone with tons of experience NO MATTER what they have to pay or do they want someone they already know, someone they KNOW can motivate them from experience...just saying...
Happyfeet, I like the way you think!!! But that makes way to much since for Anna Craft, maybe it'll get better when she's gone. Sports has took a nose dive at LCC hasn't it. Basketball, baseball and football all need to clean house.
Baseball is a exception. Coach Dean has two regional titles under his belt. He produces results.

No CP08 I'm afraid its not the exception. He has just bullied his players and parents into not speaking out. He didn't even get out of district this past year if I'm not mistaken, in the weakest district I might add.
I have spoken to a number of parents that feel the same as I do. This hire would be just as divisive as the previous but apparently some are so mesmerized by the last name "howard' that they are blind to that.
