NOW they ARE out
#1
going in to this game the Cats were safely in the NCAA
filed, but had to answer the question: How would they
respond to the loss of Noel?

They answered in the worst possible way, and have now
played themselves out of the NCAA.

A loss in and of itself wouldn't have done it. But the total
collapse, lack of fight or heart, and capitulation have declared
that htis will be an NIT team.

Actually winning 3 of the home games and getting a road
win WOULD still get them in the NCAA after today, but
today's game shows THAT is not going to happen. In order
to have done that, the team would have had to have some
grit that it has shown it just doesn't have without Noel.
And it's a shame because there's still penty of talent
and material there to win against this year's SEC. But
it's hard to figure how Cal has missed so badly on 4-5
players that while talented, lack determination or fight.

Well it's possible that this loss fuels them. If I was Cal, Poythress & Goodwin would sit & sit a lot. I'm talking not start, or play unless there was foul trouble. Missed on 4-5?? He didn't miss on Noel. He didn't miss on Polson, he was a walk-on & a hometown kid. He didn't miss on Wiltjer, he was brought in as a role player & a lift off the bench much like Mays. However, those two seem to be the main role players. I think he brought Harrow in with the thought he'd have Teague two years, so I wouldn't really call him a miss. He took Hood because he was a high rated in state product, in recruiting class packed full of superstars. I wouldn't say he missed on Poythress & Goodwin, they just have bad attitudes & are uncoachable. I wouldn't care if they transferred to Louisville, I have total disdain for those two. I wish them well, but their failure to buy into the team & play aggressively has left a bad taste in my mouth. I wish them well & Good Luck in the future but I prefer not see them in Rupp Arena again wearing Kentucky across their chest. They might as well put their last names on the front & back of their jerseys, because they play for themselves. With these two & their attitudes, I'd like to see Cal take the nameplate off the jerseys next year.

I thought they were in no matter what?

If Maryland beats duke tonight it helps.

You all are crazy. They will still make the tournament.

They get 20 wins they are in. And I think they will get 20. You gotta realize the best 68 teams make it in. I think we are a top 68 team, don't you?

As a guy from ESPN said earlier, we are not just judged on our games after Noel got injured, we are judged on the games before too. It's our season as a whole. And we do not have an AWFUL record, we have a low seed record. We will still make the tourney no doubt.

Although I expect us to go out really early in the tourney.

You can say I just have my blue goggles on, but they will definitely make it in.

This is according to the latest bracketology (sp?) by Joe Lunardi. UK is in the first 4 out.

I agree if they get 20 wins they are in. It is Kentucky and the NCAA know the fan following they will bring.

We are 17-8.. I'm pretty sure that's right.

We have 6 games left. I think we can beat Misssissippi State, Georgia and Vandy.

That finishes us 20-11. That gets us in the NCAA as a low seed, I am almost sure.

There are 30+ conferences in the NCAA tourney and all of them get one automatic bid.

I would say that maybe the top 40 teams get in the tourney while the rest get in by either getting hot in their conference tourney or simply beating some really bad teams in a lower to middle major conference.
#13
Like I said, we win the games were supposed to, we get in. Dropping this game hurts us. But we win the games we're supposed to, beat Mizzou in Rupp, and we're in
.
#14
Maryland beat Duke, so that helps. UK HAS to get to 20 wins, and I still think they have to win at least one game in the SEC tournament to even have a chance. The NCAA committee doesnt care about previous champions (the 07-08 Florida team is eerily like this UK team. They went 21-10 in the regular season but didnt get a bid)..

I think they will get in but it's going to be hard if they get beat down again like they did today. Lets face it UK is just not that good this year! If UK does get in their out by the 2nd round at the most. Going to the int my not be a bad thing. But if they can win 2 games in the sec tourney then I think they are in for sure.
#16
Since it is allowable now for players to palm the ball, makes it very difficult to stop dribble penetration. It also makes it extremely important to be able to protect at the rim. This was the only advantage that UK held over most opponents. Without Noel this is no longer the case. Mentally this team seems to be in a very bad place. Cal has been knocked repeatedly for being a great recruiter, not a great coach. I think we learn alot from this point on! Time to earn the "BIG BUCKS" Cal. Go Blue!!
#17
All this talk about wanting to make the tourney over the last couple of days is crazy.
Even if we do make the tourney, what are we going to do exactly? We'd be a 9 or 10 seed, maybe lower. Making the tourney doesnt make it a successful season IMO, this team, is more or less done.
Lets just wait until next year.
#18
I can see UK still getting in. If all possible they will find a place to stick them in the field. This backs up my theory, "great recruiter, but cant coach" argue it if you want. The talent is most certainly there. Harrow, goodwin, poythress, wiltjer, and wcs are all toptier recruits. Not the best ever but it is sure alot more talent than alot of teams have. This were "true coaching" happens and From what I am seeing its alot of coaching issues

Here's the only confusion. Are you deliberately refusing to
understand what you read in my posts? Or are you truly
not intelligent enough to understnd pretty straightforward
concepts, even after they are explained to you multiple
times?

20 wins won't get this team in. And the point of this post is
that the way they responded to the loss of Noel at UT makes
it very unlikely that they can do the things they need to
get in. I've said it several times now, this team needs to win all
it's remaining homes games plus get a road win to get in,
that's 21 wins not 20, ad with the UGLY efforst at UT
that would still leave it tenous. 20 wins means they either
lose another one at home, or can't pick off one on the road,
and almost cetainly dooms an NCAA bid.

Finally a post that makes sense, or at least recognizes reality.
For UK and its fans, no season that ends in a barely made
NCAA bid and likely 1st rd exit will never be considered a
success. Expectations are beyond that period, and Cal has
raised the bar even more now with his first 3 years' performance.
It's the double edge of the UK coaching sword.

How can it make sense to just wait til next year? Call the SEC and tell them that UK surrenders? Tell the NCAA that we have had enough? Tell the players that they're hopeless and to continue this season would be a waste of time? Everybody, the seasons cancelled, see ya next year! Time for the players, coaches and fans to put on their big boy pants and go down swinging!! Never give up!!!!

Myself i would like to make the tournament. Not to is an embarrassment.

Love Jimmy V and your positive attitude Fatt, if only these players would adopt it and play by it  The next six games will indicate just how knock down, drag out, no give up they are!

The Sky is Blue. The Cats are fine! I'm not jumping over the cliff!

As some unintelligent people posted that IU fans were on suicide alert, and was wrong. Cat fans will be just fine also!

It's basketball! Play the game! Win's and I will be happy! Losses and I will still go to work and make living for my family!

Ill go with, "not intelligent enough to understand pretty straight forward concepts, even after they are explained to me multiple times" for 200 Alex.

I remember Pitinos' first year at KY. Not a very stellar record, but I couldn't wait for the next game! Why? Because that group of kids played their guts out! This is what KY fans have come to expect of our players.
