13th Region JV teams
#1
The discussion about Clay County's lineup next year made me wonder how the JV teams are doing this season.
Like I've said in discussions with the Clay guys before, I don't think the frosh/sophomore classes in the region are real strong overall.

Hard to judge by teams freshman and JV teams because so many teams have freshman and sophmores playing varsity this season.
#3
TexasRanger - I agree. Clay County's best player is a sophomore with 2 freshman in the top 7. Overall, it is pretty weak I'll have to say.
#4
I think you, or someone from Clay, said Clay had the best young backcourt in eastern Kentucky. I didn't get to see the Clay JV this year. I saw Corbin earlier in the week and KC, Whitley, Pineville, Barbourville, North and South earlier in the year.

Knox Central to me will be the top team in the region next year. They have a really nice group of young kids with Barger and the big kid inside. Clay Co. and Harlan Co. also have a nice group of young kids.
#6
Knox Central probably has the most young guys playing exclusively varsity. They will be among the top teams next year, if not No. 1, coming into the season.

HDE, I know we have a few weeks left in this season, but since this came up what about this top 10 for next season.

1. Knox Central
2. Clay Co.
3. Bell Co.
4. Jackson Co.
5. Harlan Co.
6. North Laurel
7. Corbin
8. Barbourville
9. Willamsburg
10. Harlan or Middlesboro ????

Knox Central and Clay County. Good prediction.

Man guys lets dont jump the gun, lets enjoy 2013 post season 1st. I do think those predictions are pretty good however.

I'd probably put Bell second.
I'm curious what kind of season the Clay JV is having. I think they have next year's lineup except for McDaniel. I know that's a big "except" but it's hard for one player to make a huge difference.

The sophomore class in the region isn't that strong. Harlan County wasn't challenged at all in freshmen basketball last year and finished 12-0 without Tyler Miller in JV. I know Clay didn't have McDaniel and South didn't have Baxter, which would make it a lot more competitive. Knox Central didn't have enough to even play freshmen basketball, but they have four sophomores either starting or playing a lot and probably the best freshmen in the region in Marsee (Hill, of Corbin, was pretty solid too when I saw him earlier in the week).

Knox won the 13 th region freshman tournament.
#12
I heard they beat Whitley in the finals. I think by two.
Did Marsee play for KC?
#13
Clay's JV isn't much just to be honest with you guys. You're looking at an automatic line-up of Smith, McDaniel, Wolfe, and most likely Holland. Rumor is circulating of Farmer who would start. Not too bad of a line-up but I wouldn't put it preseason 1. 2-3, region even weaker next year.
#14
No Marsee did not play.
#15
Knox will have an opportunity to win this region. We have a great group of young guys. Future looks good here right now.

I heard that Bell only played one or two freshmen in the tourney and the rest were 8th graders.

Must have. Knox was up on them by 30 at 1 point. Was a good Fresh tourney. Whitley beat a good South Laurel team by 9. South had beaten Whitley during season 3 times by 6,3 and 1. Corbin upset a very good Clay team then Whitley beat Corbin by 21 I believe after getting a 30 point lead.
Knox had a pretty easy time beating Mboro and Bell.
Champ game was little sloppy as both teams were playing their 3rd game of day. Whitley had a shot at buzzer to win but was a tough shot, had only 2.7 seconds to go 3 quater court. Final was 2 points I believe 38-36.

Most nights South Laurel's JV was led in scoring by 8th grader Jared Grubb and freshman Coty Arnold. Both will see major varsity minutes next season. Arnold is a gifted athlete that could become one of the best in the 13th region the next couple of years. Like most freshmen, he lacks the strength right now. Jared Grubb may be the starting PG for South next season as a freshman. He too will have a very good chance to be a top player in the 13th in the future.

Bell starts 2 freshman on varsity and another is 1st or second man off the bench. With only 1 senior it is hard to judge their JV b/c some many young kids play varsity.
