Should referees call their own regional tournaments?
#1
Or should they go out and call other peoples regions? TongueirateSho
On one hand they have called their teams all year long and the players are used to them calling and know what they can and can't do. On the other hand, it could make it pretty hard to decide which ones to put on which games. Tough choice, but in my opinion I wish we could keep our own here in the 14th. Much better than getting some other regions officials that are not very good.

Definitely easier for officials to go out and call other regions where they don't have any ties to any teams or districts. In our opinion, we would much rather go and call other places. I believe this year the 14th is going to the 13th, the 13th to the 15th, and the 15th to the 14th, 3 way switch. Should be interesting.

Doesn't the 14th and 13th play each other the first round of the state tourney this year? How can the 14th refs go and call for a region that their region is going to play in the state tourney? Seems like that could end badly.

Do you know all the assignments?

I would definitely rather 14th call their own region. They call the districts in the 14th and doesn't seem to cause near as much controversy as we have had the last few years with out of region officials.

Peace be among us.

ABSOLUTELY NOT IMO!!! It would be a complete JOKE if the KHSAA didn't have referrees going outside their own region to do regional tournaments!!! With some relationships between refs and coaches, school administrators and other people also, it would be extremely controversial to put it mild if they ever went back to referrees doing their own regional tournaments!!!!!

NO.

Y shore they should. U never know when a family member may need a good job with a school system or an outside business. Or even pay a liquor bill off or something. What is this guy talking about..... Just reality folks...reality.
#9
I think they should ref outside their region in the tourney...
but I don't think the 15th region refs should be allowed to ref any tourney lol
#10
You have links to everyone regardless of what region calls over time. I believe the guys that call all year should call the regions.
#11
Doesn't really matter, people r going to b!+<# either way

Its pretty easy to figure out why you have 2382 posts with only 70 liked posts sir!!! NOT a good idead at all, I wish they could bring the refs from another state!!!
#13
That means you don't trust your own. As far as attacking my posts, most are statistical and don't need a like Cuz.

I think most regional assigning secretaries had rather go outside their region and exchange refs. Most assigning secreataries have ties with one of the regional teams, and it always puts stress and an uncomfortable position to be in for the refs and the secretary. For instance, the 14th's assigning secretary is Tommy Hall, a former ref himself and a former teacher and Athletic Director at Knott County Central. Whether 14th region refs called the finest game in the history of the game, there would still be those who would say that secretary Hall had an influence on the way they called the game if it was a game that Knott Central was involved and the Patriots won. So he would be in a no-win situation.
It's best to swap out with other regions. However, it doesn't make much sense to stay in for the district and then go out for the region. One is just as important as the other. I say swap out for both tournaments.

No!

I call it like I see it sir! I choose not to be naive when it comes to issues such as "Conflict of Interest"
#17
Conflicts of interest are across the board from region to region.

Just go to the state tourneys and watch who they hang out with.

I would rather my neighbors call the game than a stranger who you see a week with the most on the line and don't know his ties to others.

I agree very bad record of them deciding the game instead of the players. They have caused a lot of controversy in the last few years putting people on the line with no time on the clock and the game on the line. Probably will stir a lot of controversy with this comment but the truth will stand when all else falls.

The truth stands when all else falls.

Agree with this.....

I have seen so many poor calls at the HS level over the years that it has become part of the game for me. Almost surprised now when missed calls don't affect the games. It would be great if we could increase the talent pool of our officials. Til then I say let outside officials screw things up.

I think officials should call their own regions. The coaches rate officials from the region to determine what officials move on to post season. So with having your own region officials you have a say in who you get or don't get. Each coach has the right to scratch/blackball certain officials from calling the games they play. Now if a coach scratches an official they can not rate them, so it is a checks and balance system. Football goes out of area for post season play, but you have two different regions participating. When you get out of region officials you have no idea of who you are getting or have any say so in who you can not get. Keep them in the own region, they do do the districts, so why not all post season play.

It don't matter, money fits in one pocket as good as it does in another...

I don't care who calls the region as long as the 14th does not get stuck with the 15th two years in a row. I thought they were supposed to rotate this ? If this is so I wonder who has pulled strings to make this happen. Fact of the matter is 15th region officials have called game changing calls 80 feet away from the basket 2 out of the last 3 years. No one in their right mind will make those calls unless a player just gets bodyslammed or the official has an agenda. I don't care if a blindman from Timbucktoo calls the 14th as long as the 15th goes somewhere else.

I think the 15th is going to the 14th. The way I understand it is they wanted to go elsewhere, but the 14th coaches wouldn't agree to it.

I want the 10th to stay in the 10th, because the rest of the regions are terrible!

Stardust Wrote:I want the 10th to stay in the 10th, because the rest of the regions are terrible!

Is that why the 10th is the only region allowed to call the sweet 16?
#30
No they should in the district lets say the 10th region. Regional first round region 12 second round region 11. Finals region 9 That keeps it even because we all know the refs take the games over. pay them a little more to come and not the same ones every night.
