Rains aloha! Posted until the 8th. Great job..with no teaching responsibilities. High pay and other fringe benefits. Looking for someone who is tough-minded and will stay more than two years. I have 5 years until I retire. I believe I will apply. O I forgot nobody from Letcher County need not apply.

Hire Terry Howard and Jim Bob Mccauley and forgot this stuff.
#3
Great to hear the Letcher folks will have someone else to complain about now.
#4
Terry Howard will not be hired! NO EXPERIENCE
#5
Very disappointed in Raines considering his emphasis on character, values etc. Hard to get get kids to sell out when the coach is not. This is the problem with coaches for hire. Only loyal till the next offer comes in. This program needs the stability of local ties. Junior Matthews comes to mind. Had a great high school and college career. Has high school experience as well. I'm sure administration will not consider anyone from here though. Its worked so well in football and basketball so far.

This has to be one of the worst jobs in the state.

Tom searcy

Explain that to me.

Is that the same searcy that coached whitesburg in the late 80s early 90s if so i like that idea he could straighten this program out. If the cryers would quit crying and let someone coach. It takes a while to get lined out not gonna happen overnite

Parent need to suport not try to coach,Nick Sabin could not win there.

the only problem I have with it is that he held the football banquet last night and had the chance to tell the kids then, but chose to post it on facebook... @#$! move if you ask me...

Why is he leaving?
#14
That is Raines ...M.O. Well I had questions before but now I truly understand. He will wine a dine you and then let you fall on your face! Can we quit hiring people like this. It disrupts kids lives more than anything. POS

That happens even at Alabama. Coach Howard did.
#17
Good luck to the next guy.
Hopefully he will have at least 3 supporters.
#18
LCC should look into some local coaches that they may be able to talk into coaching at LCC.
#19
Many supporters whom are not on this site. A lot of doubters of administration also not on this site.
#20
If Coach Raines had a problem with parents at Letcher, good luck with PLD.

I'm so sick of hearing how you guys think that Rains is leaving JUST because of the parents!!! You guys don't know jack!!!! you weren't in the locker room to hear what all went on...you didn't hear all the things he said about the people in this area!!! it's pathetic...with the money we paid him he shouldve been able to take a little more heat than just a bunch of red-necked mining parents!!!! so shut the heck up unless you know the whole story...cause YOU DONT!!!

Tell us the whole story since you are "in the know". No sense in telling someone they don't know about the situation and what it entailed if you are not willing to set the story straight.
#24
as far as I'm concerned, the people that NEED to know already know the whole situation...but if you insist pm me...
#25
My SON was IN that locker room and the things that certain parents said happened DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!!! It was just part of the movement to get rid of him by certain parents all because he had a passing offense and not a running offense.
#26
Just an outsider looking in, but it seems to me that the LCC athletic program doesn't believe in longevity with any hire & I'd have said that before Rains left.

I hope they find what they're looking for over there and IMO the next hire should be given a lot of thought. These short stays by coaches in football & basketball do not send a positive message to coaches who may be interested in the jobs.

Its time for letcher to step up a get a big name.

I agree

That sounds good , but I have to disagree. LCC needs someone loyal to the program or someone hungry for a state championship. These so called big names at the end of there career will not put the years in to bring it where it needs to be. I believe they need to find a young hungry coordinator or head coach. Look what Bourbon did this year. While Holcomb is an outstanding coach...how long will he stay. Make no mistake he is going there. I hope he stays more than 3 years.
#30
They would save a bunch of money and pay a local guy like Terry Howard. Most of the so called athletes came through Whitesburg middle which is where he coached. If you have to go with Holcomb, then you bring Howard in to either run freshman or JV team. He also needs to work with line or running back coach. Something to put him in position later to get coordinator or head coach. I think he at least diserve that.
