It gets old that every Pikeville thread turns into a East Ridge Bashing Party.
You all have already destroyed the Pikeville/ER thread, so keep destroying it instead of multiple threads.
I will ask a simple question. Do you plan on doing this to every thread that concerns Pikeville, and do you get satisfaction and enjoyment out of doing so?
I am not being out of line, all I ask is that the discussion of this thread return to the events of the PHS/LC contest or it will be closed due to the amount of off-topic posts, which again is a violation of BGR rules.
Thank you and please just be cooperative and enjoy the games and discussion!

My thoughts - nice to see a school that basically lied and recruited a foreign national and a AAA football school play in the All "A" title game.

Awesome job !!! Steve Silvers should get all the credit for adopting Kasongo and bringing him to Pikeville. Without a doubt Pikeville would have made a early exit without Kasongo. So Bart needs no praise we all know what Bart has done since he started coaching. NOTHING

But no, you do not have a personal agenda.
I hope that this stuff really makes your life that much better. A 7-game win streak was just too long for you to wait for a loss to pounce on, so instead of congratulating a program which you claim you will root for with a new coach, you do this. Classy and mature.
Keep up the good work you do for this site and for the Pikeville community!

He is a beast on the boards. Rowe is a really nice player, he has a nice game. The foul was actually called on # 5 Silvers but even Kasongo thought it was on him and started to walk off the floor lol and looked stunned when they announced they gave it to someoen else. As far as the inbounds play at the end of the game, how do you not call that in a game like this.? Both teams played their tails off and yet the refs had to do something that would leave a mark on this game. Pikeville came out hott and stunned LC,but the Dawgs battled through adversity and came back strong. I loved calling this game. LC keep your heads up, i think you guys did a great job!!!There were some strange calls along both baselines. I could not see at the end, but Hamilton did say he thought he was out of bounds when he received the ball, and as long as Kasongo was out of bounds it is legal. Like I said though, I could not tell.
Lawrence County has a very tough young team. They all handle it and can score. They are as good in transition as any team I have seen in this region since the SV teams a few years ago. They are extremely well coached and have a great few years ahead of them and will be a pain to the 15th for a while.

The facts will still be when this site is a memory. Pikeville is having a great season. Congrats Pikeville. But they are doing it with an illegal player. This is how I see it Pikevilee is a member of the KHSAA. As a member they agree to abide by the rules made by KHSAA . But when a KHSSA decision doesnt go their way they sidestep the rules by a political favor. Prove that I am wrong

Question: Would Pikeville be going to Frankfort if Steve Silvers would not have adopted Kasongo? Could Bart have won the all A without Kasongo?

fred taylor Wrote:Question: Would Pikeville be going to Frankfort if Steve Silvers would not have adopted Kasongo? Could Bart have won the all A without Kasongo?Without Kasongo PHS probably does not win this tournament. He is just a difference maker in a lot of games.
But, PHS also did not have Kasongo last year and managed to defeat East Ridge 3 times and win the 59th District.
Once again, no credit given. If you want to criticize you must also be able to congratulate. You are an individual that is upset with the situation of someone in his family and their basketball career at PHS. I was cut by the same program. Once you get over that and realize that Bart Williams is not out to get you, the happier you will be in life, IMO.
But, If you say that the Coach does not win without a player, then is it not the players that win and lose games all the time? No. It is a balance of both. How do you blame the Coach when he doesn't have players as talented? It goes both ways. Coaches get too much of the blame for losses and Players probably do not get enough credit for wins. Both have responsibilities. And if you think that a coach is the sole reason a team wins or loses single games, you are horribly mistaken. Coaches can have a hand in winning individual games, and they can have a hand in losing individual games, but more importantly a coach should be viewed in the totality of his or her program. And at the time as a fan, I am happy with the state of the PHS basketball program. If you are not, then that is one thing, but give credit where credit is due.
If you are an actual Pikeville fan, you would support the kids that play with the Maroon on with Pikeville across the chest. Some things happen that I do not like in different areas within the school, but I am not going to blast people behind a username and do it over the course of 3-4 years (Yes, it has been that long now). And I have been guilty of it in the past, and realize I made a mistake and try to refrain from doing things of the such. I will always support the programs of my Alma mater and the people that invest their all in their efforts. I am a supporter of PHS, and that will not change because I may disagree with a certain person.
Look at it this way. You have the chance as a member of the Pikeville community to come and join together to celebrate the success of PHS and take a trip to Frankfort and enjoy the company of the community. Is that really not as good as trashing someone on BGR every chance you get? I personally invite you to TW Oliver to catch some games, enjoy the company of the fans in the building, as I am positive you would have friends there. And enjoy watching and talking about the game on the floor. It is a great thing we are able to do in this country and it maybe should not be so undersold.
Hope to see ya there! Go Panthers!

I have 2 questions. 1.If Kasongo stays at ER how does the 2 games between the schools come out. 2. If the situation was reversed and he played last year for Pikeville and tried to transfer to ER this year would he be playing at this time.

ER people complaining is as hypocritical as Pikeville people celebrating.
You should have sent them home when Coach Justice left and no one would be having this discussion.
If the roles were reversed? Pikeville would have used the methods and political clout they used to get him eligible, to get him ruled ineligible.

I agree 100% have never a fan of transfers I prefer to watch my neighbors kids play win or lose

That is where the rest of the ER/PHS talk should head. This again is about PHS/LC.

First of all congrats to pikeville on the victory. As for the out of bounds play at the end of the game, it was an OBVIOUS turnover. I was sitting on the first row and it did happen, a pikeville player came from out of bounds and handed the ball to another player and he in turn inbounded the ball. If this does not constitute a turnover than I don't know what does. LC missed a bunch of layups and pikeville took advantage. Kasongo is a beast and Rowe is a great player. The dawgs never gave up even when they were down by double digits early. Again this was a very heated game that came right down to the wire, what more could ask for except better officiating in the 15th overall. Congrats pikeville and keep fighting DAWGS!!!!!!!

I was at the game and a few quick thoughts:
Hats off to Josh Cook and the job he has done at Lawrence County. Maybe the best single season turn around I have ever witnessed at the High School level. They are a very good team and I would not be surprised at all if they end up winning the big region later this year. That team plays so hard and really buy into his system. I would not want to face this team the next three years. Unbelievable job!!! And Congrats on a Great team!!
Secondly, big Congratulations to Bart Williams for the first All A regional Championship at Pikeville in 20 years. Everything this team has overcome is truly amazing. People on this site are idiots and most have no clue about basketball and probably never played. Saying that Bart couldn't win without Kasongo is stating the obvious..... Could Phil Jackson win without Michael Jordan??? I mean just stupid comments.
For some reason some people are just so jealous of Bart and now that he is going to State it kills them.
How about a Congratulations and a pat on the back?? JOB WELL DONE SIR!!
BUT YA KNOW... HATERS GONNA HATE
HAIL PIKEVILLE!!!!!

All you little "Class-A" schools get your tourney. But what about those of us that are on the cusp, too big to be accepted in to your "Class-A" society, and too small to have a fair shot against the really big boys. We don't have a tourney for us, and when LC was invited to participate because our enrollment had dropped off drastically, some of you all can't stand it. It is the same as how many of the 15th region teams want LC out and back to the 16th. Fact is KY needs a class system. It has been talked about, and will be talked about again in the future. Maybe not for basketball, but for the other sports don't be surprised. The KHSAA likes the color green, $$$$, and having multiple class championships will bring them that.
But, thanks again, for allowing us in your "club" for this tournament. Too bad we couldn't spoil it for you and have the last laugh.

Its not about your enrollment dropping its about the fact that some of us enjoy seeing class a teams win on a high level. The regional baseball championship last year was a good example. Pikeville, and Paintsville playing in a tournament consisting of all the schools in the region big and small.

This game showed a lot of fans in the region that this Bulldog team is going to be tough to be beat the next 3 years. Dawgs are back!!

Not taking anything away from Pikeville but adding to the mystique of 15th region refs. Congrats Pikeville.
Here's my take on this theroy.
When you shoot as many perimeter shots as LC (and us also), you aren't going to get near as many FT attempts as teams that take the ball to the rim.
Just a simple fact of basketball.
Same thing happened to us the game before when Pikeville shot 26 FTs and we shot 9 FTs.

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â

Maybe there needs to be a name change to "SMALL SCHOOL OR SMALLER SCHOOL"
state tourney. Or let all schools particpate & just call it the State Preview Tournament.
But it has evolved to where it is not an ALL A tourney & congrats to P-ville on their title.

I think we just need to move on now. This game is over and there is nothing can be done about it. I think LC showed that they are going to be a solid ball club. Coach Josh Cook is doing a awesome job with these young men. All starters will be back next year, and then 4 will be back the next three years with 8th grader Timmy Dalton having 4 more years. You better enjoy beating them now, they will be a tough outing from now on. Keep it up Bulldogs, work hard.

Congrats to Pikeville on the win. Good luck at State, represent boys.
Great game by the Dawgs. As many has stated, this will be a team to watch for the next 3-4 years.

If LC would have started off better and not got behind 14-3, or missed a couple lay ups at the end of the game they would have won I think. This was a fantastic game with a championship feeling inside the expo center.

I still havent been able to figure out how a kid can come from Canada to an Eastern Ky school then after one year transfer to another school in the same region. I bet with all the controversy over the mass inflow of Canadian kids that the kHSAA makes some rule changes. It has totally changed the complexion of basketball in Eastern Ky . Cordia has brought 4 or 5 in this year alone. And why would they pick schools in Eastern Ky ?
It's not a mass inflow man. Players have been coming from three places often for years. Canada, Europe, and Africa. In just these next two classes, 13 and 14, there's probably 45-60 foreign players in each class ESPN 150, and probably 30-60 of those 300 players are Canadian. Heck we have 5 Canadians in the Class of 2013 top 25, haha.
And it's just not KY. They're going to schools all over the country. Many different factors play in...the kid's goals, talents, best fit, ect.
I like it. It actually puts EKY basketball on the national map and brings attention, not to mention making our basketball much more excited and fun to watch. I think it's good for Eastern Kentucky basketball for sure.

My question is how did Kasongo even know where East Ridge, Ky or Pikeville, Ky is? What brought him here?
01-22-2013, 10:05 AM
I love how he attacks the boards, but in all honesty he could play a lot better. He had a couple nice moves but that was it besides the rebounding. He couldn't hit a free throw in the first half, and he also played a little dirty. He needs to clean that up, he will have a bulls eye on him every game.
01-22-2013, 10:13 AM
Hamilton wasn't out of bounds at all lol. Both kids were on the floor and touching the ball at the same time which is a turnover. I was right in front of where it happened. How could you miss that call ref lol? If Lawrence would have made those easy layups at the end that call wouldn't have mattered. But they weren't going to let Pikeville lose that game.
