Perry Central 68 - Knott Central 62
#1
Final

What a game! I think this was definatly a classic between 2 great teams. I thought PCC did a great job on Justice for about 3 1/2 quaters but then he showed why he is the best player in the mountains. Justice had a good game and so did Beverly. This game showed that the Commodores are the best team in the mountains even if it was decided by missed freethrows.

Camron Justice is as clutch as it gets I do believe. 23 points in the 4th quarter. Great game to watch. Congrats to PCC on the win. Braxton Beverly is a baller as well. Kid is a beast.
#4
Justice is a scorer forsure. Kid has never seen a shot he doesn't like. Congrats to PCC. They are definitely the favorite to win the 14th imo. But ANYTHING can happen between now and then.
#5
Excellent showing by the Dores and Pats. Nothing really to say, hard for me to analyze every bit of it as I was so tuned in to the emotions. Fatal errors IMO was KCC not fouling a little bit earlier and then Hall trying to miss the FT on purpose down 4. I feel you try and hit that go down 3, go for steal/foul, hope for the best and give yourself a chance to have it down to one possession. Looked like KCCs game plan was to let nothing go inside and let anyone not named Beverly shoot outside whenever and it came back and bit them. PCC hit big shots in the 3rd and Johnson was a beast. Hard to come to Combs Rd and beat the Dores, can't wait until they play again later this season and I REALLY want to see this matchup again in Whitesburg.

Congrats Commodores and Coach Spurlock. Peace be among us. Brother Cecil.

Camron Justice took on legendary form in the fourth quarter, it was truly incredible to watch. Congrats to Perry County Central on the win though, well deserved.
#8
great game between two teams. But the teams got to learn how to make free throws. I really like to se these two play again at letcher. Justice show that he is the best player. And he show that when he wants to take over a game he can no matter who is guarding him.
#9
Congrats to Coach Spurlock and his team...

It was an amazing thing to watch indeed. I just don't know why he didn't start doing it earlier. When justice wants to score. There's not a player in the region. Possibly the mountains IMO that could stop him. He put it all over there whole team in the 4th. Hitting 4 strait incredible 3's well beyond the line that were in Perry's faces and off balanced. Maybe this game would've turned out different if he would've started that earlier. But congrats to perry!

What a great game. Perry played a great game and knott central played a horrible game. It was only in the fourth quarter that we all got to see the real knott county team. Perry should have won by 20 points. If they played ten times knott would win 8. But, tonight perry got the best of the patriots. They played a wonderful game.

Congrats to the Commodores on winning their 5th WYMT championship. This has to be one of the best Mountain Classics ever. Weather co-operated and the field was excellent. Shoutout to the Pats the Commodores had them in a position they were unfamiliar with down 18 in the 4th quarter and they didn't quit. Justice unstoppable in the 4th. Good sportmanship by both teams. Johnson played huge game as did Beverly. Looks like Spurlock is getting his shooters back Stacy shot the lights out both he and Hill key to the Commodores success early in the season. Going to be a big year in the 14th. Peace be among us. Brother Cecil.

If they were playing Breathitt Co, Denny would have wanted Spurlock to pull his starters!:biglmao:

It was good game Pray guarding Justice took him out of the game early but give Justice credit he is a good player and clutch. These two teams right now are #1 and #2 and if they played 10 times it would be 5 and 5 hats off to both teams.
#17
I believe Pray is possibly the best on ball defender in the 14th. Heck of a game. Congrats to Perry and Coach Spurlock on the title.

We hurried home to watch this game on TV. I would've loved to have seen it in person, but am getting too old to have to deal with a gymnasium at 100 degrees!!!

Great fan support from both teams, and what a truly amazing game!!!

Congratulations to PCC on the win and LCC for an exciting game and showcase of talent!!!!

It was a great game i think it was just a preview on whats to come

I got home late after the tourney and had Church all day today...
sorry for all of the JBS fans on here that were waiting to hear my thoughts.

Great game for anyone that was there!
The atmosphere wasn't anything like the Hazard/Perry game but it was definitely something special.

Both teams played their heart out and Justice had every Perry fan holding their breath and having flashbacks from three years ago when they got "Tate Cox'd".

Perry has played two games back-to-back where they played as a team and after blowing out Hazard with Johnson not registering a single point and only one rebound and Cornett basically sitting an entire half....you knew when they got it all together they would be special. For 3 quarters and 6 minutes we saw what they could do - but in 2 minutes we saw how quickly Justice could take over.

He was 2/7 from the field going into the 4th quarter and he was in single digits in the scoring column - He ended with 32 and he was 7/10 from the 3 point line.

There were two mental mistakes that stood out for me in this one that lost it for Knott.

1.) Intentionally missing the free throw in a 2-possession game. Especially when those refs were so trigger-happy on 5-second calls. If Knott would have had a shot to tie the game there is no doubt in my mind that we would have seen OT.

2.) The screen that was set to get Camron open on the inbound pass under Perry's goal. Why on earth do you set a screen right next to the end line? You're pressed for time and even if something disastrous doesn't happen you're putting your ball handler in a spot to get trapped on the baseline. I just thought it wasn't a smart decision to set it, a bad decision to go around it and a bad decision to throw the pass like that.

All in all it was a great game...
and because of Knott's courage at the end of this one...
I will refer to them as Knott County until the end of the All-A

Pray and Beatty are the 2 best defenders I've seen in this region. Pray with his length and athletic abilities make it extremely hard to get a good shot off. I think he(pray) got tired late n the game because of the 3 practices with football, 3 practices with ball, 1 football game and 3 intense ball games in about 4 days. He was cramping early n the first quarter. What he did this week is truly AMAZING!!!!! Beatty is only getting better. The kid hasn't played n 2 years and will continue to improve over the next month. I promise his best ball is ahead of him. This PCC team has made leaps and bounds over the last week and still can get much better. If this team comes together they will b very special. Shout out to Cam for the best 3 mins of hs ball I've seen. Shout out to Cornett, Johnson, Beverly and Stacy for doing work.

Congrats to Perry on the win. Great team effort.

Cameron was unreal the final four minutes of the game from the 3 point line.

This game could have went to OT if he could have knocked down the freebies. What can you say though. They never would have been in the game if he hadn't caught fire from the 3 point line the final 4 minutes.

Justin Johnson was in beast mode the 2nd half. Beverly was Beverly, great tournament from him. The kid (maybe Stacy) who came off the bench for Perry was a difference maker in this one also. He came off the bench and hit 4 or 5 three pointers in a matter of minutes. Pray done an excellent job guarding Justice for 3 1/2 quarters. What can you say about the final 4 minutes. He was in his grill and Justice was still knocking down off balance long distance shots.

Good luck to both the rest of the season. The 14th Region Tournament will be classic.

Agreed, that was a back breaker.

Apparently you didn't see Johnson's fall in the 1st quarter after 4 minutes in the game. He jumped and got hip checked, landing flat on his back with his head almost hitting the floor from impact. For him to continue to play shows how much he wanted it. Finally he had to come out of the game he couldn't handle anymore. Of course he had 4 fouls, but the injury was nasty.

I was there for every second of every game at the tournament, bro.

I didn't say that he played the whole game and had an awful showing.
I said he didn't register a point and only one rebound.

Probably one of the best games Ive seen in a while... Seeing KCC come back from being down 18 was crazy. The thing that helped PCC in this game was being able to go deeper on the bench than KCC. KCC just goes 6, sometimes 7 deep and that hurts a team when you get in foul trouble. Hats off to PCC for playing a great game!
#29
An awful showing after that kinda spill, I agree. I didn't expect much after that fall though and no one should've. You could see he was in pain. He played his game against KCC, 18 points and 16 rebounds, wasn't hurt. Big difference. When someone's injured you can expect a normal game.

Yeah...
There was a lot of talk that KCC was really deep this year when the season started - but I've watched them play five times now and I've only seen them go to Shrum and Williams off of the bench in meaningful minutes.
