16th Lion Wrote:There is several factors that go into it, #1 being population of area to draw kids from, ex: 6th, 7th, 11th regions. #2 having a group of solid players together for several years growing up playing together against better comp. to make them better, usually during the summer ex: Elliott Co, Shelby Co. #3 Having an Elite level player to put the team over the top ex: Rose Hill, Mason Co. I know everybody thinks this kid and that kid from their area is elite but don't get confused there aren't that many of them if not nationally a top 100-150 kid and thats a strech. this applys to all regions in terms of weak or strong.
You are correct, 16th Lion. There have not been many really elite players in Kentucky in the last twenty years. There have been, I believe history clearly shows, only possibly three who have played for a school in the 16th Region during that time- one played at Fairview, one played two years at Rose Hill, and one played one-half a season at Rose Hill. If I missed one, I'm sure posters will let me know. However, I'm talking about elite- not good. There are many merely good players all over the place.

If Jeff Hall is the player from Fairview then your are going back 30 years. I hate to be the one to break that news because it will make all of us feel OLD. It's hard for me to believe it's been that long.
Overall all I agree about the elite players. There have been some great high school players in the 16th but very few elite. By elite I think Allen Houston, Richie Farmer, Darius Miller types.

Very little arguement from me. If I were to nitpick I would have Rowan slightly lower, Elliott slightly higher, and Greenup in their own category. But overall very fair.

Elliott is a tough team to rank. The way they jack the ball up if they are hot they could upset a better team. But that style can also lend itself to shoot their way out of a game if the shots aren't falling.

Who has Rowan or Boyd beat to be #4 and #5?
01-04-2013, 05:16 PM
If going off records, Russell, Fleming and Morgan are all tied for first. Ashland Comes in in a close second 1/2 game back and Lewis in third 2 games back. Rowan is now 2.5 games back and Boyd is 3 whole games back.

Oh, man, Leaping Lee, I was referring to Jeff Hall. Where have the years gone? Next you will tell me that "Wake Up Little Suzie" isn't No. 1 on the charts? You can't top the Everly Brothers.

Who do you want to put in front of Rowan and Boyd? If you say Morgan County who have they beat?

All I'm sayin is that Rowan is only 2 games above .500 and Boyd has an even slimmer margin above .500. Rowan is also allowing more points than they're putting up this season overall. Rowan is not an elite team in this reason and I can say that Morgan could beat them 10+. But I'll hold my tongue on that topic until the 9th of February.

The same Morgan that lost to Wolfe County or a different one?
01-05-2013, 12:22 AM
Morgan had a bad game, especially from Aguirre. It's tough to catch him on an off night but Wolfe did and capitalized. I've only missed 2 or 3 games and I can honestly say nobody actually beats Morgan County, they beat themselves.

Dont really remember did Jeff Halls Fairview teams ever win the region or play for the title?
01-05-2013, 10:10 AM
In checking the KHSAA website, Jeff Hall's only trips to the state tournament were as a coach.

They only beat themselves.
Yep, the new dumbest post I've read on here.
Carry on. Please. This has been great.

There's a complete and undeniable difference between a team stopping you on defense, annihilating you on the offensive end every trip and you going down the court and forgetting your role, committing silly mistakes and being sloppy with the ball. No team that has beat Morgan has just ran away and made them look like a Rose Hill. Take the Russell game, Morgan had all the momentum down 2 with only a few minutes left. Malinic got a cheap technical for trying to fire up the student section and the momentum immediately swung to The Red Devils. Simple mental errors like that is what beats them, not their play, because when they're primed and firing on all 8 cylinders, I think they could beat anyone in the region.

Thanks Harry back when he played I know Fairview competed in the 63rd with Russell, Greenup and Raceland did they win the district?

Classic. We were already down. We got a dumb technical foul. We were out scored the rest of the way. We beat ourselves.:eyeroll:

Exactly.

When Malinic was given the technical, Morgan was up 3 with 2:46 to play. I was at the game as well as just watched the tape.. Morgan Co so far into the season has only beat themselves in the three games they lost. Yes they were beat but they did beat themselves in those games..They have not been outmatched or outplayed..

Basketball success is secondary in Morgan County; its a by-product of changing lives for the better! I think its part of the districts new mission statement that "Morgan County will stamp out ignorance, one foreign exchange student at a time (and if they're 6'7 and can play a little, so what..nothing to see here!)".

He broke his nose. It was on his cheek when he left the court. I think they are going to set it later this week. Until then it's my understanding that he intends to keep playing. He's a tough kid.

Correct fairview has never won a region. Hall was still a great player playing at Louisville in there heyday back in the 80's

According to KHSAA website, Fairview won it's only regional championship in 1975. That was pre-Jeff Hall.

Fleming comes to Morgan on Wednesday. We will see where the Cougars stand at this point, as The Panthers have already proven themselves to be an elite team.
