Be Sure to Shop at Walmart

Is Walmart a positive community member? That is in the eyes of the beholder and that beholder is likely not without prejudice one way or the other. Walmart plays its business game to win which can be hardball. Walmart also gives a lot of time and money to charity.

You guys are disagreeing.

I'm pretty proud of my work Experience.

DQ my Senior year of high school.
College + DQ for 2 years ending with my Iiformation technology Degree.
Inventory Sales Manager at RJ Building supply for 6 months
2 Weeks With COwin & Co Mining Contractors(This is a job for real men)
I am now installing Cable,Phone, And Security Systems While Earning my Bachelors in Medical Billing and Coding.

NOthing Special but it keeps me happy.

I didn't take it as being called out, but I know given the impression I put on here that a lot of people would be shocked seeing how loaded my resume is for someone in my field. Confusednicker:

I do, Wildcat, compliment you for working throughout school and pursuing something. You said that it was "nothing special but it keeps me happy." That's actually a very solid resume, and I would guess you probably have activities you do in your spare time that would add to it. Having mentored several students in careers, I encourage you to continue at it, what you're doing, and even to try to find some experience in your field and become involved in an organization related to your major. That will set you wayyyy ahead of the pack.

Do you buy your morning soft-drink or Mountain Dew at the local Speedway. Then you support the closing of 99.9% of the local Full Service Gas Stations in America. Plus, if you take your car to Tire America, Midas, Jiffy Lube or any vehicle specialty shop, you support the system that shut down the local street corner service station.

Grocery shop at Krogers? Then you eliminated the local butcher shop!

Do you do your Christmas shopping online, then you have completely eliminated the local "5 & Dime" (which you probably don't come from the era that even knows what that is).

Do you have one of them fancy smartphones whose services reach the entire country no matter where you travel to, then you have supported the virtual elimination of the Local Bell telephone companies that ONLY serviced your area.

Do you buy materials at Home Depot or Lowes, then you have virtually eliminated your local lumber yard.

Come on people, times change - NO, Consumers Change. And, the consumer dictates what business MUST be. My wife, along with her family and friends will be partaking in the sales that start tonight, and then be out all day tomorrow. My son will be working at Dunhams Sports for his 12 hour shift on Friday, and yes, he will get a break and will be paid his slightly higher than minimum wage. And me, I'll avoid it all and sit on my couch recovering from overeating. But the consumer has changed what retailers MUST provide. And it sure is hell was NOT Wal-Mart that started the elimination the local mom and pops. And someday, if Wal-Mart does not provide what the consumer WANTS, then Wal-Mart will cease to exist as well.

I get breakfast every morning from the American Grill.

Full up the truck and get 2 amps from the locally owned bp gas station beside the house.

NO krogers within 50 miles. Inez Supermarket And Copleys MArket.

Materials from R&J Building supply and Evans HArdware.

I was unaware Bell Services have smartphones.

As for shopping locally. There is no small businesses to shop at. Except the pawn shop.

That's why the rules are there, because of people with your mentality of places of employment. Irregardless of your opinion on things, employers have rules to follow.

I realize that all this is probably either over your head or foreign to your labor mentality but, if Walmart were actually breaking all these rules as you claim, don't you think all your liberal buddies in their various and sundry little civil rights groups would be all over them with class action law suits and DOJ investigations? You couldn't have a more anti-capitalist, pro-labor group running the DOJ and NLRB than you have now.

And I'd guarantee you we wouldnt be getting this "free trade" argument from you either. Walmart is flat out the greediest company in the United States, and their sole purpose is to destroy every single small business in every town (and the surrounding towns) they build one of their supercenters in. I'll gladly spend an extra $50 on a set of tires at Roberts Brothers than at Walmart, because I know those are real people that truly care about their customers, and will take care of them, rather than corporate robots who could care less. I am currently working on trying to put a car hop restaurant/diner in my town, and Im clinging to hope that one day, small businesses will become relevant again. Until then, I am proud to support small businesses, and I will gladly spend a little extra money to support them.

WHAT - Are you kidding me??? LOL, this is completely laughable. Before we EVER saw a Walmart in our towns, we saw Krogers, Thriftway, Remke's etc.. that killed your local butcher shop. We saw Tire Discounters kill your local garage. We say Ameristop kill your full service gas station and your local convenience store. Let's not fall into make believe here. Walmart came AFTER all of your locals died. And I will bet you that you help kill off your locals by frequenting these others LONG before you EVER SAW A WALAMART. If you are going to bastardize free trade, at least use proper facts!

Then you are OBVIOUSLY the minority. Because since the economy has gone to shit, in order to do the best for my family and stretch the family's dollar, I MUST conserve my budgetary spend, and that means I will search for the lowest value buy. I obviously don't have the money to piss away, so Free Trade has allowed me to best keep as much money in my pocket as feasible so I can pay for my family's essentials. And, since there is a Walmart, target, Home Depot, Lowes, there are many other Americans that must be as conservative with their spending limits as well. So, you are the minority, I live with the majority, and I HAVE TO, not because I WANT to!

Dusty, I like you, but you dont know what the hell your talking about. It might be different up where you live, but until youve spent time (lived) down here in this part of the state, then you have zero clue of what your talking about. Jenkins, Neon, Whitesburg, Dorton, Virgie, Regina, Elkhorn or Isom never had ANY of the stores you mentioned. No Ameristops. No Tire Discounters. No Thriftway, No Krogers, None of the above. Those towns were ran by places like Wrights Market, Franks Produce, the Jot 'em Down Market, Coopies Market, Elgins Market, Jenkins Tire, Collins Tire, Farleys One Stop, Everetts General Store, TG's General Food and Supply, (2) Food Haven Supermarkets, among others. Every single one of those stores were open until the Supercenters opened up. Do you know how many of those mentioned above have stayed open since then? Other than Collins Tire, NONE OF THEM. They couldnt compete with Walmart and their "convenience". You thinking you know anything about this part of the state is laughable. Do your research, Dusty.

Like I mentioned, competetive pricing and other creature comforts are one thing. "Preditory pricing" with the sole intent on singling someone out to destroy is another.

I do 95% of my grocery shopping at Velocity Market in Pikeville. I used to get my gas at One Stop in Pikeville, but they went out of business. Restaurant wise, I do eat at a lot of National Chains when I need it quickly, but if I am going to sit down, I try to go to Chirico's, Dairy Cheer, The Log Cabin (before it went out), El Azul Grande, Bank 253, Main Street Grill, and my favorite is The Windmill which is about Mom and Pop as you can get lol.

I like the uniqueness of different locally owned places in different communities and I hope to see as many succeed as possible.

"Fair trade"? Define your concept of "fair trade". "Fair" is always in the eyes of the biased beholder. Free trade is fair trade. Either you can compete or you close your doors. Not everyone will succeed and, in fact, most won't make it. That is capitalism. "Fair trade" as defined by the present group in Washington would be close to socialism.

The 32" Emerson HDTV for $148.00 last night at Walmart was a fine bargain and worth the battle for a parking place at the Walmart in Alexandria. If Tommy's TV had offered a similar deal, I would have bought one from Tommy. However, he did not and I saw no need to pay an extra $100.00+ for the same television just to provide Tommy with a "fair trade" opportunity. Tommy must compete in the open and free market or Tommy needs to hang wallpaper for a living.
