Feel free to skip this thread. And we'll all go back to not caring what you think.

To be 2a champ is like putting lipstick on a hog.

And yet they insist on giving the same trophy to the 2A champs that they do to the 6A champs...
Nice post Norm. You gotta love it when people get on here and slam the small schools. These people cant seem to understand they are just as important as the bigger ones. If these guys had a school that only had 400 students, do you think they would be competing against the 6a sized schools.
Wideleft01 Wrote:Frank is a great guy. Super good individual. Played some baseball with him. You'll never hear anyone say a negative thing about Frank.

On Somerset vs NCC this year. There's 24 teams still alive. These 2 teams are definitely in the weakest 4-6 teams still playing. Real surprised that there's this much chatter about a couple teams with 8 losses or so still playing.

Wait a sec. You played baseball w Frank? So you are in your 40's and still harbor bad feelings against NewCath. I know that it was a huge rivalry back then, but.... I mean, really? That puts all of your posts in perspective. Over forty and still bashing the rival high school, I hope that I am that sweet some day.
ColtPride Wrote:I'm pulling for Somerset, however there's just something about NCC. Not even the best Briar Jumper team (in my opinion) back in 84, with Massey, and Fletcher could beat them.

Actually the '82 team from Somerset was much better in my opinion. They had Massey and Fletcher but the '82 team had a well balanced offense and pretty good defense. Their only blemish was a 1 point loss vs. Boyle and they went for 2 with :23 left and failed. Also really put a hurting on AA champ Corbin in the regular season that year.

82 team IMO best team in SHS history.

I hope the current jumper team can make a case to the contrary in 2 weeks.

Frank is older than me, but yeah I still root against Ncc in my 30's.
I believe NewCath wins by two touchdowns.

That's the Crow I'm talking about, hope all you folks that are predicting a Blow out have a lot to eat.
Honestly CK, I can't say I blame them. Recent history would show that the safe bet is on the NKY team. We were sent packing in the semis in '05, '06, and '11 by a team from NKY. I have a feeling this year we turn the tables though. Jumpers take this one 24-17.

I know u were a part of those losses ro but I believe the current jumper team is more playoff equipped with a solid run game and good defense. Not to mention those mid 2000 ncc teams were loaded with talent. It's gonna be a tough one regardless. Both teams will have to come to play to earn a W.

I know where you coming from. But those people really don't think we have a Chance. It's like it's NCC and the other 3 are space holders, like zeros, Nothing. Can't wait for game to start.:popcorn:
^Right that's basically what I was getting at. Most people, not all are simply going off our recent history against the teams from up North. But I agree this year's team is different IMO. We bring a lot more to the table defensively than any of those teams. That's why I think this is the year of the Jumper. Wish I could be there tomorrow.
The coaches at Newport Central Catholic haven’t finished their research but they do know that senior Dylan Hayes has smashed at least one mark in the 77-year-old team record book during an iron-man performance this season for the football team.

“He’s having a great year in all areas and our line has done a great job clearing holes on offense,” NewCath head coach Eddie Eviston said. “We know for sure he broke his own record for punt return yards in a season and there’s probably going to be more.”

The Thoroughbreds (9-4) are one step away from the Class 2A state championship game. Host Somerset (11-2) looms as a formidable obstacle in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. state semifinal.

NewCath will try to hurdle the Briar Jumpers with six outstanding two-way senior starters, including one special talent who plays every which way and gets loose. Hayes and the ‘Breds are seeking their second state title in three years.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pound dynamo has an interception and 33 tackles at cornerback. He’s rewriting the record books on offense and special teams.

Hayes has 1,476 rushing yards, on 8.3 yards per carry, for the 12th most in a season at NewCath. He also has 105 receiving yards, a record 432 punt return yards and 287 kickoff return yards for a total of 2,300.

“I love running the ball but I actually like special teams more because I can see more and I have more open field to make moves,” Hayes said.

He's scored 30 touchdowns, four on punt returns and two on kickoffs, giving him 10 career special teams returns for scores.

“When you can put your best on special teams, it makes you that much stronger and you always have a chance for a big play,” Eviston said. “There’s always the injury risk, but Dylan is in great shape and he’s pretty tough, and we’d be ignorant not to put him back there on special teams.”

Hayes’ 60 touchdowns and a two-point conversion put him at 362 career points, which ranks fourth all-time at NewCath. He’s scored 182 points this year and needs 19 to break Chris Kelly’s 2010 single-season record of 200. He is two TDs short of Kelly’s season record of 32.

Elsewhere, Hayes’ 46 career rushing TDs rank fifth all-time at NewCath and his 3,007 rushing yards rank eighth. With nearly 5,000 total yards, he’s poised to become the seventh player in school history to reach that milestone.

Hayes said the numbers are nice but his primary goal remains the same.

“I’d love to win a second state championship,” he said. “Somerset’s pretty big but I think we can take advantage of them with our speed. From the middle of the line to the receivers, we have a lot of speed.”http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...311200029/
