For Hazard, Somerset, and Harlan County fans...

Love my Spud!!!

I try to root for every Kentucky team in all sports, but I never have or never will root for Louisville. I think it's a genetic thing or something.
#93
Looking to make my first trip to Harlan countys new field the friday. good luck to everyone
#94
To all of the mountain teams Harlan, belfry, hazard, and somerset good luck and go out there and earn the respect of those people who say that the mountains are over rated and not that good. Show them just how good teams from eastern Kentucky really are.
#95
Just how wonderful would it be if we had 4 state championships won this year?? Not sure if its ever been done or will be but it would be great if it did happen!!!! Just think we could have had 5 teams in this mix if bell could have held on and won!!
#96
That's sure what I'm hoping for!!
I don't have anything against ANY team, but the mountain area is a little beaten down right now. This Black Bear team has given something that the whole community can rally around and suport. And it has been GREAT!!

If we had 4 mountain teams at BG, I believe it would boost a lot of people's spirit and spark a pride for a football teams. Not that they don't have any; believe me, pride is a lot of what has gotten these teams to where they are.

I want this so bad for the mountain teams; and especially for the Seniors!

Go Pirates
Go Jumpers
Go Dawgs
Go Black Bears

Maybe two out of the four move on this week.

Bear_Paw Wrote:^ trust me....I'm not upset. We have spent out whole lives being looked down from the northern triangle. Quite honestly...it's what drives us...

That is a crock of crap. Search my posts and you won't find this type of post from me very often, but after a while, I get fed up with the "mountain complex". You have some complex that makes you feel like you are being looked down upon, but it's not reality. I've lived most of my life in northern Kentucky. That's over 55 years. I have a very good feel for how people in northern Kentucky think. I've been watched high school football longer than a lot of posters have been alive. I've followed the game, including mountain teams, closely. As a former Highlands player, parent of two sons that played for Highlands and as a fan, I've travelled to eastern Kentucky many a Friday night and watched eastern Kentucky football. I attended Centre College with a lot of folks from eastern Kentucky. I served on the KHSAA Board of Control with folks from eastern Kentucky. So read the following carefully:

A very large majority of folks from the "northern triangle" (which I interpret to mean northern Kentucky) respect folks from eastern Kentucky and eastern Kentucky football. That is a fact. We have been treated very graciously when we've visited eastern Kentucky and we have treated eastern Kentucky folks very graciously when you all have visited northern Kentucky. We have played some very hard fought games against eastern Kentucky schools, winning some and losing some. You can use the "we're from poor little old eastern Kentucky and no one respects us" garbage all you want to motivate your players, but it's completely bogus. I hate to say it, but sometimes it reminds me of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpeton crying about discimination all the time. Get over it.

With that having been said, I'll now go back to being the nice Charlie instead of the mean Chuck. Hell because of the many nice folks I met from Harlan County a couple years back, I'll be pulling for them to beat Cooper. I'd like NCC to beat Somerset because some of the NCC players live in Fort Thomas, but if Somerset was to win, I'll be happy about that too because of the respect and friendship I have for Slick Perkins.

Well said Charlie. I have never heard anyone go into a game saying that the team they were facing could not be any good because they are from the east or mountains. I have also never seen any poor sportsmanship shown out of fans from Hazard or Somerset (I can only speak to these two programs, because that is all I have seen at the state games). I heard some stuff on the Williamsburg vs Hazard site after that game, but I have never witnessed anything like that. I kind of find it hard to believe that their fans would act that way. My point is exactly that, we don't think they are necessarily underdogs so why do they attack us for voicing our opinions about this. I have tried myself to be complimentary of Hazard and others over there. I just wish they wouldn't have such a chip on their shoulders all the time.

The pictures don't do it justice. I went for the first time on Friday and was blown away by it.
Good luck EKY schools!!!! Pike co will be rooting for all you guys!!!
Charlie22, you have a stunning football history and an amazing knowledge of the game. I don’t know how most people think in northern, southern, western or even eastern Kentucky. However I would have no problem admitting that you know the general “feel” in northern Kentucky.
I don’t know why BearPaw made the statement to which you responded; however, living most of your 55+ years in northern Kentucky, I must wonder if you could know how it “feels” to experience discrimination just because of your accent. I know I do.

I would agree that a majority of true football fans from any region of Kentucky (northern Kentucky included) would respect other regions (including the mountains), who have made certain accomplishments in the game. That statement is bolstered by posters such as you, Tradition, Spirit100 and frozenbird (gotta love his avatar!!!)

There are other posters that are not so gracious.

I believe you may have noticed another thread, though not posted on it. Mysonis55 also hasn’t posted on this thread, but Northern Kentucky started it a day or so before this one and have continued to compare the regions more than what was done here. That’s okay with me; being this far down the competition road will lend itself to emotion and trash talking from lots of fans; myself included. We are only attempting to garner support and encouragement from other teams in the mountains that haven’t been so fortunate as to make the play offs as many times as Highlands.

As much as mysonis55 disagrees with this thread, I believe we have this right.
I have an issue being compared with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, but I believe you have this right.

So without any malice toward any team, I am very very excited that 4 mountain teams have the opportunity to play this coming Friday night, and I continue my support toward those teams.
I for one don't consider us being looked down on as much as I just like to root for the schools that I see on a regular basis. I see these kids from all these schools on baseball fields, on football fields, in basketball gyms. Get to know them and their parents and fans. Now I may root against them on a given Friday night but when they are not playing against my team, I will be pulling hard for them. I remember a few years back when I was tickled to see Shelby Valley win that basketball championship and I am by no means a Valley fan. I don't think Belfry0304 started this thread to say that everyone looks down on us, but just to say hey we are all pulling for each of you guys in your respective classes. BTW Charlie I love your posts. There are probably a handful of posters on here that I truly enjoy reading and you are one of them. I would listen to true "Football people" all day long. No matter if you are a Northerner. Haha.
Good response micro brew. I can completely understand since you put it that way. I guess maybe I tend to let some things bother me without thinking them through sometimes. Good luck, may you all play injury free and God bless you.
Finally!
ColtPride Wrote:So by most poster's logic on here, I guess you guys root for Louisville, when they are playing anyone besides UK? I didn't think so. lol

i am not a UK fan. the only 2 game i am not behide UK is the Tennessee and UofL game. SEC football is the best. when it is Basketball, it si UofL and UNC. i will never wear anything with UK on it. i will not let anything with UK on it in my house.

Never had an issue with eastern Kentucky folks wanting the eastern Kentucky teams to all make it to state and to be pulling for one another. My rant was solely directed towards the comment about people in northern Kentucky supposedly looking down on people from eastern Kentucky. The we "get no respect" really gets tiring.

I forgot in my prior post to thank you for the nice words concerning my posts. I'm not into trash talking or stirring the pot. I'm not into bragging about the team I follow or putting opponents down. It's just a game played by teenage kids; a game those kids love. Nothing more; nothing less. I'm happy for the kids that get to attain their dreams and sad for those that don't. That's true regardless of what part of the state those kids hail from.

Can't say I blame you for having an issue being compared to Jesse and Al. I would too.

I love your support of all the eastern Kentucky teams and the attempt to garner support for them. That wasn't the issue with me and I hope you understand that.

As for what region of the state plays the best football, I couldn't care less. I'm a Kentuckian.
^ because you do not look down on us doesn't mean it doesn't happen. As much as you would like everyone in NKY to share your opinion...many don't.

Best of luck to the Bluebirds from Al and Jesse...

I probably have a much better feel for how a majority of northern Kentuckians feel about eastern Kentucky than you do, seeing as how I've lived here pretty much my entire life except for time away at college and to serve in the Marines. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but this lack of respect thing is more in your head than reality. And thanks for the best wishes. Same to the mountain teams.
First off this thread said for Hazard, Somerset, Harlan Co., and Breathitt fans, so I'm along the lines of if you don't want to hear talk about those teams don't go trolling into the thread. A lot of folks genuinely want to discuss those teams others I don't know. I do know that I very rarely go into a Lexington, Northern/Western KY, Louisville thread unless I know something associated with a school and I sure don't go in there to be negative or stir crap up.

Dealing with football and life is a little different, I can't remember being disrespected going somewhere to a football game, but I have attended a lot of meetings in Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati and I HAVE been treated like a hillbilly which I'm fine with because usually its someone that I could care less what they think! To say it doesn't happen is false, but as we all know especially with football fans No One/Place/Program is perfect and we all have our idiots!

Fair enough, but to be clear, I didn't say it never happened or that no one from northern Kentucky looks down on eastern Kentucky. I did say that based on my experiences of living in northern Kentucky, a majority of northern Kentuckians do not look down on folks from eastern Kentucky or on eastern Kentucky football. I still believe that.

And for the record, in my many travels to eastern Kentucky to attend football games, I've always been treated well. Actually some of the most accomodating hosts have been the eastern Kentucky schools and their fans. A large majority of the Highlands folks feel the same way I do.

With that, I'll butt out of this thread. Best wishes to all this weekend and I hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving and gets to share the day with their loved ones.

you may call it a fault. i see it was a mind of my own. 90% of my family in Kentucky is a UK fan. 99% is UK basketball fans.
I hope all of them win but the Hazard

Above is where you crossed the line...next time your in NKY you pm me in advance and I'll be happy to put you on a good foot...hospitality, restaurants, might even have you over for a meal at the Spirit household, etc....if your letting looks, language, and a few douchebags who hurt your feelings to cause you to regioncast, I'd encourage you to reconsider...I'd be happy to step in and show you another perspective Patriot.

On that subject I am a Harlan County fan based on the feedback I received from Highlands fans from their last visit...as well as the class and integrity I witness on bgr from folks like Granny Bear and other HC loyalists...

You and yours have a good Thanksgiving Patriot. I'm happy a hs football game allowed me the opportunity to offer you one!

In the meantime let's not let the idiots get us down.
As a Middlesboro fan, go BLACK BEARS!

Despise Harlan, but always been a fan of Harlan County.
