question
#1
Is there a rule that a football player can not practice basketball while football season is still going on ?
#2
I don't think so. I think its moreless a School and coaches type of deal. It may not be, but I'm pretty sure its just up to the school and or coaches.
#3
It's a rule at Harlan County; made specifically to keep Coach Larkey from having a heart attack!!

I also believe it's school specific.

^ Yeah its a rule at Magoffin too. I'd say most places enforce this. I know I would!

What football coach in their right mind would allow kids to start practicing basketball before football season was over? What basketball coach would allow his basketball players to start working out with the baseball team before their basketball season was over?
#6
Basketball coaches are not allowed to force fall sport athletes to practice basketball while the fall season is going on.

We had a kid quit football and he was not allowed to practice till after the season was over a couple years ago. Do not if it was a school rule or not .
#8
I think this is a KHSAA rule

I'm pretty sure it's a school rule. No football coach is gonna let one of their players practice another sport while football is going on unless he only plays one position on the football team, something like kicker or punter then he might let them practice other sports while football is going on.

Question:
Basketball practice starts in the heat of the District schedule.
The only time games overlap is during the playoffs.

Why would anyone even think of practicing both as an option?

lol

I pretty sure this is not a KHSAA rule. I know of lots of kids who have quit football in mid-season and started practicing with the basketball team.

I would guess this was just your principal and AD's way of "punishing" the kid for quiting football. There is no KHSAA rule that I am aware of that would prevent the kid from practicing another sport.

I would not think it is a KHSAA rule simply because Kickers usually play soccer during football season. I think it is just a gentlemen s agreement between the two coaches.

Is not a KHSAA rule. Each school has their own policies regarding this. Keeps a kid from quitting before the end of the season in one sport and starting to play in another sport. Schools decision.

There are no rules on Football and Basketball from the origicanl question, but the KHSAA has a special section just on the two, posted here, which would spell out if there were additional rules. I think this is to keep AAU at bay, and maybe some football all star games, but I am guessing.

Not a rule regarding just basketball and football, but for sports seasons in general. I think I'm getting this mixed up with the scholarship rule in the NCAA
