Region Realignment
#1
Just for fun, I made up a possible regional realignment. With new schools opening and others consolidating, some shifts need to be made. I tried to make sure each district has 4 teams and avoid 5 team districts if possible. I made the 6th and 7th all Jefferson County teams, I put all of the Boone and Kenton County schools in the 9th, and I put all of the Campbell County schools in the 10th.

Hopefully this will start some discussion on what the next region realignment will look like. Feel free to make your own suggestions of what you think it should look like.

To simple and does not consider the KHSAA favorites, but I think it looks great!!
#3
Would be a long drive for Magoffin for district games lol
#4
Region 15 is jacked up as is the 63rd and 64th.

You don't know if Rose Hill will continue to have a team year to year so you have to 1 of the 5 teams from the 63rd in the 64th.

The 15th distances are too far for teams in your 58th,as well as for Magoffin.

I agree some changes need to be made. However, the 15th/District 58th is just not possible. Also, bringing in Morgan and dropping Magoffin in the 15th creates a few problems. I think the losgistics need to be a little more thought out. Yet, this is just one man's opinion. Happy debating. May you all be masters.

I figured that Magoffin County would be an issue when I made this as well as the 58th. The most trouble I had with were the EKY regions. I figured a lot of you on here would know more about the exact locations of the schools and travel times/distances. What do some of you all think the EKY regions should look like?

This would be some interesting region tournaments to watch

I did not include Heath, Lone Oak, and Reidland because they are being consolidated into McCracken County after this year.
#12
The three McCracken schools are closing. That's one of the points of the realignment.

I like the first plan pretty good. You'll want to move Clay's district to 49, Bell's to the 51st and Corbin's to the 50th though.

I don't think Bench's plan works in the 13th because I don't see any way you'd have 19 teams in one region or six in a district. I'm guessing all regions will have 16 of 17 teams. There aren't enough schools to have 19 in any one region or six in a district.
#13
Aren't they working on the realignment right now?
#14
Yes
#15
what's the latest on that? What teams are moving where?
#16
I had not heard that. What about University Heights? Where would you use them? Also, I have heard there is talkings of a new high school in Laurel Co. Any word on that? Also, any other possible consolidations in the very near future?

I could've swore that I included UHA but I guess I left them out. The easiest would be to put them in district 8 with the other Christian County schools. I don't know if I would keep Todd County Central in the 2nd with them or move them back to the 4th in district 13 and move South Warren to district 14. I think it would be best to move Todd to the 4th aand keep all the Warren County schools in one district.

I haven't heard about any new schools in Laurel County but I have heard that Oldham County may be building East Oldham High School in the near future, but I don't know if that is true or not.
#19
The new Laurel has been discussed, but I don't think it's been approved yet. It will be a while.
#20
I think my setup for the 10-16 regions may be a little better due to teams traveling. Although I do like the first as well. I think it just is not feasible to have Lawrence Co and Phelps in the same district in the 15th. That would be a 2 hour drive. Of course, it is about a 2 hour drive from Phelps to anywhere. Smile

I really don't see how they are going to get out of no 3 team districts in the west (especially with consolidation) unless they just strip away some old districts and rivalries. I believe there will have to be at least one 3 team district - although if there is a way to get around it, I hope it can happen.
#21
As long as there are at least 256 schools you can avoid three-team districts. You just can't have six-team districts and 19-team regions like you had in the 13th. I don't think you can do regions 10-16 until you address the schools closing in Region 1.
#22
No way would I ever separate Cordia and Knott with District play. Same county, same region.

Anybody think there will ever be another region realignment?
#23
I understand your point about the 6 team district and 19 team region, and it could be changed, but I have heard rumors that Red Bird may not be around much longer. If that's the case then the set up is good, but if they are going to stick around for a while to come and field a team then it could be changed. I think I would agree though that it will depend on how you set up the west.

I think you could make an argument for separating Cordia and Knott in the 14th - although on the one I redid, I did not. Cordia is probably closer to Hazard and Perry Central than it is to Knott Central when driving so you could argue to put them in that district.

You may want to put Red Bird in a five-team district if possible because it is very small, but not a six-team district. There's no way to justify having a three-team district when you have five-team districts, and even one with six. That's why any plan doesn't work until it takes into account the McCracken merger. You have to move some from Region 2 to fill in there, then that means you move from Region 3 or Region 4 and then so on and so on.
North Laurel and South Laurel are in different districts, so anything is possible. I agree that Cordia is closer to Perry and Hazard and could fit better with them.

For the 15th - I've said it for years now:

- Move Lawrence County back to the 16th.

- Move Magoffin to the 58th.

- Move Betsy Layne to the 59th.

- Add Jenkins to the 15th region and in the 59th.

- Move Shelby Valley to the 60th.
#26
I'd put Covington Catholic and Notre Dame in the same district since CovCath is all boys and NDA is all girls

I've got a couple problems with your suggestions.

First, adding Jenkins but taking away Lawrence does not solve the main problem in the 15th, that of not enough teams. If you don't count Piarist (and I wouldn't, since they do not consistently field a team), then we only have 15 schools. Adding Jenkins is good, but we either need to keep Lawrence, or add someone else (Letcher ?) to get back to 16 schools.

Second, why would you move Shelby Valley to the 60th? Granted, as a Wildcat fan that would be a much easier district most years, but it doesn't make geographic sense. Either Pikeville or East Ridge would be closer to the rest of the schools in the 60th. And then Jenkins would have to drive past SV to get to any of the other 59th schools.

Here's my proposal:

57th: Lawrence, Paintsville, Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark
58th: Magoffin, Prestonsburg, Allen Central, South Floyd
59th: Pikeville, Shelby Valley, Jenkins, East Ridge
60th: Betsy Layne, Pike Central, Belfry, Phelps

Or if you send Lawrence to the 16th region, shuffle Morgan to the 14th, and take Letcher along with Jenkins:

57th: Paintsville, Johnson Central, Magoffin, Sheldon Clark
58th: Prestonsburg, Allen Central, South Floyd, Betsy Layne
59th: Shelby Valley, East Ridge, Jenkins, Letcher Central
60th: Pikeville, Pike Central, Belfry, Phelps

A lot of good post in this and good post up top!
I agree with HDE in every post, believe it or not.

We cannot go back to the old ways of 6 or 7 team districts, and i dont believe it ever will.
I would love to see North and South Laurel back in the 12th.
#29
Also, this is the first ive heard of the Mccracken school consolidating, with it being out west.

What class will that put them to in football?
I know Loan Oak is a 4A school already. Will they have to make the jump to 5A?
#30
You just now hearing about McCracken County buidling a high school and 3 schools consolidating? Lone Oak, Reidland, Heath (If I'm not mistaken.)
