This will be a great game.

I believe Somerset's going to take this one. Their linebacker core is MUCH bigger than they were last year so that will help to stop Bryant which we couldn't consistently seem to do last year. Gonna be glad to hear that song "Another one bites the dust" after the game (returning the favor). I also think Coach Lucas will have his team ready to play after being very dissapointed about last years loss to Whitley. Somerset will continue on with a 2 game winning streak! Just hope we can stay healthy as we have some jumpers banged up right now.

Should be one of the better games around the state.
IMO, Somerset has a real shot at that 2A crown.

I know were going to have to be atleast 2TD's better playing at Somerset to win the game.

Somerset is better than last year but so is Whitley.

There is no way my old team loses this one! 5A against 3A... enough said!

Should be a great game. The Jumpers may be more capable of stopping Bryant this year, but they'll have to do more than that against this years Colonels. I think Somerset's lack of offense will be the difference in this game. I'm going with WC in this one again this year.

Our offense is not what teams should be worried about.
Since everyone has became healthy and playing at full speed, our defense is one of the best around.

I agree RIUTG! Jim Black has those boys playing well!

If we can shut down Bell's running game with ease, im sure we can Somersets as well. It's their passing game we'll have to prove we can defend.
#15
The final for this game could be 2-0. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the defense and special teams get more points than the offense in this game. I hope we can get the offense going this week. I've heard that Hatcher ran the offense well in the series he played against Glasgow. I still say there is no harm in getting him a few series a game. I know that the boys are still pretty sour over the way things went down over there last year so they should be fired up for this one.

My thoughts as well, but i dont even want to go into last year, it didnt look good for either school.

This year, a close game should be in store again.

As mentioned in a previous post, this doesn't help the Jumpers in the slightest. Officials in the Lake Cumberland Association are terrible for the most part.

Why would Whitley be allowed to pick the refs for a somerset game. Do you not know how home games work? That is where the term home-cooking comes from.

I think since Whitley beat Somerset last year, I don't see any way they would lose to them this year, because Whitley has really improved from last season. I think I have to go with Whitley in this one and this is the first time I have picked against Somerset this year but I think it will be a close game.

No, they proved that last year.

The best officials we've had were the ones who called the games at Hazard, Breathitt and PCC last year. Very good and fair crew out of Perry County. Absolutely on top of their game. MIND YOU Somerset went 1-2 in these outings, and I still believe this was an excellent crew deserving of recognition.
#24
Sounds like some folks are making excuses before the game even starts .....get over last year....it has no bearing on this year. Just because you THINK the calls may have been bad does not make them bad. Play the game fairly and let the chips fall where they may. Alsosounds like some folks may be wanting reefs to cheat or give them home cooking. I would rather win fair and square.

Been around it 34 years and the best I've seen have been Lexington area, NKY and Tennessee. I'm not sure if Tennesse does it anymore but they use to split crews. You didn't call with same white hat or crew each week and didn't call same position. Everytime I talk to those guys they would say they liked it because they had to be on top their game and know rules and mechanics of all positions.

This was a really good game last year. Whitley has more weapons this year than last. Somerset is struggling on offense so I will go with the Colonels.
#27
Here's my take on the game. What was lost in all the discussion about the officiating last season was the fact that Somerset had 2 and sometimes 3 starting linebackers out for most of the game last season and the backups just simply couldn't stop Bryant. IF, and from what I'm reading that is a big if, Somerset has a healthy defense, that won't be the case this season. Bryant is too good to shut down but I don't think he runs wild against a healthy Somerset defense this season. Whitley's offense seems to be more diverse this season but I don't see them putting up big numbers against Somerset's defense. That being said the Briar Jumper offense has really struggled the last couple of weeks finishing off drives. That can't happen Friday night. Also, I don't think that Somerset is going to beat Whitley throwing bubble screens, they will have to hit some downfield throws to clear some running lanes for the backs. I'd really like to see Tyson Williams get 5-10 balls thrown his way--I don't think Whitley has anyone to match up with him as well as cover the other receivers. I Somerset is healthy and can hit some downfield passes I think they can win this one at home. If they can't get healthy or if they have to rely on their running and screen game I think they will struggle to score. Either way I think this will be a low scoring game with the winner in the 14-21 point range. This one will likely be decided by a turnover or special teams. Hopefully it helps both teams get ready for their district openers and everyone comes out healthy.

It seems a lot of fans put to much stock into Bryant this year.

To be honest, were not using him all that much. He still gets a few touches a game but not the 30 touches he was last year. He has A LOT of help this year.
We have a selection of about 5 RB's that will get in the game, and im glad to say most are good. We do not rely on Bryant like we did last year and he's looked upon to lead the defense this year, and like i said last year, hes a better defensive player than offensive.

Youll see Mills, Ysidro, Hooper, Nichols, and Jackson all run the ball Friday. I think you'll be surprised just how much Mills can do for a Frosh, but most Pulaski County folks got to see him at the middle school level.

In the game against Clay, Bryant barely got the ball, and against LC, it seems like even our offensive guards got some carries. Dont get me wrong, if e need Bryant, he's there, but our offense has completely shaped into something different than it was last year.

I was being highly sarcastic. Obviously Whitley isn't going to pick the referees at a Somerset football game.

I 110% agree with this. Called it fair both ways.
