Perry Central-51 vs Sheldon Clark-45
#1
Commodores with late score to win yet another shootout.

Congrats PCC.
#2
Does Perry even send a defense out anymore? Haha, Congrats Commodores!

So, were the officials in this game as bad as what I have been hearing?
#4
refs was pretty bad lots of blown calls, more towards SC and I said it would be a highscoreing game. 31-30 at Half.

All Calls are good in the APG!!

Probably worse. SC is getting better and that's all you can hope for with a young team. Back to the officials, and I'm not one to harp on them to much but my god, I really am still stunned after what we witnessed in the closing minutes of the first half.

How can a ref make a call then change his call, then take away a touchdown that they earned it was plain to see ,then call 253 flags againts sc ,then ,forget it i could go on alnight, worst refs ever.i would love to see this game at the rock ! clock control was, well they was none ,good job cards, you are the better team.....

The officials were bad - and before we go any further I'll go ahead and give the entire spill from someone that watched the entire game and has no interest in hiding behind refs. I may be a Perry fan but I call it like I see it.

The first half went by with very few flags. The end of the first half was controversial because time ran out and Perry started to run off of the field. Sheldon Clark had ran out of bounds and the timekeeper didn't stop the clock when the whistle blew. The refs got together and put another second on the clock and had Perry turn around to come out for one more play. Cardinal fans booed and jeered - but the refs got together and did the right thing in putting time on the clock. The Cardinals threw a TD pass that was ruled incomplete that Cardinal fans weren't happy about - I thought it was a TD. However, the kid had to stretch to get it, bobbled it a little bit and went out of bounds afterward. I don't know for sure if he got possession before he went out - but the ref said he didn't and he had the best view of it.

Second half there were a lot of calls BOTH ways. Perry had a TD called back for holding, a few holds on Sheldon Clark, and a LOT of personal fouls on Perry (justifiably so). The big thing that people are going to talk about was the fumble that Perry recovered near the end of the game. I was looking straight at it - as the Sheldon Clark player was falling forward the ball was out and the ref had thrown the beanbag before the runner was down. It was a legit fumble - untimely - but legit.

The last 6 minutes of the game there were two no-calls on late hits against Perry Central. One was a blatant frustration situation in which a kid picked another kid up and slung him as he was already tackled. I would say horrible call, but on the Perry Central drive right before that you had a Cardinal do it to Austin Pray after forward progress was stopped and as the whistle was being blown to end the play. The second no-call on Perry Central was a tackle about 2 or 3 full seconds after a kickoff return was blown dead - but the kid had just lateraled to someone to try to pull a Cal-Stanford and still had his arms wrapped up like he still had the ball - it was a late-hit, but not a blatant one like the first.

In a close game like this the refs are always in question, but the bottom line is Sheldon Clark had their chances. They gave up several big plays, they almost refused to tackle at times and call me crazy....
but it seemed to me like the coach had a hard time getting eleven guys in on each play. I would say that there were at least five times where they had to send someone in with the clock winding down. They also made a bad decision late in this one. Game tied with two minutes to go - they had a 4th and 4 at midfield. The elected to go for it and didn't get it. That gave Perry a 2 minute drill from midfield and the Dores scored with 20 ticks on the clock to win the game.

Overall it was a great game to sit and watch as a football fan - but the stigma of Perry Central referees is something that always seems to be in the mind of opposing teams as they come into APG.

My post is probably a big "tl;dr" for most people lol

^I was more pissed about the fumble call that the ref clearly motioned Sheldon Clark ball, and then as SC changes from defense to offense personnel, PCC is about to snap the ball and Hager has to burn a timeout. Within a matter of 15 seconds we're celebrating and getting ready to run the clock out after the turnover and go to half time, but then our offense gets out there and they're really playing defense. I honestly want to hear the exclamation on that series of events.

The one in the first half?

I didn't see the halftime remark - sorry about that.

Well, the official call on the field was that the runner was down.
The ref came out and made that call while the Sheldon Clark kids were celebrating and literally 3/4 of the team and coaches were looking at the crowd and cheering.

It was overturned from the original signal - and this was a little down from where I was standing so I may have missed this one - but didn't Nathan Pray (PCC) come out of the pile with the ball and hand it to the ref anyway? I saw the signal go in Sheldon Clark's direction but I didn't know exactly what happened. He could have wrestled it away from someone after a Cardinal had possession on the ground - but like I said I just saw him come out of the pile with the ball, ref signal Cardinal ball but the umpire overturned it. Side judge was the one that threw the beanbag

I say we let Perry Central, Pburg, Lawrence County, Pike Central, and Sheldon Clark play a district schedule. The Top 3 become the 2-4 seeds in 3A District 8 with Belfry being the automatic #1. Pirates get to schedule a little tougher non-district slate to better prepare them for Lou. Central, while these guys keep it interesting.

Say what you want about these teams who seem to be playing a basketball game weekly against each other, but at least they make it entertaining.

btw I sat in the Sheldon Clark fan section at this game.

Met some really nice people.

You wouldn't get em at all unless you could upset Breathitt in the playoffs Big Grin

You wouldnt want them anyway, you saw what Belfry did to Pburg, they might hang tree fiddy on PCC's defense.
#17
Congrats Perry....I am really worried about coming to Perry to play this year.

We've got a two game win-streak on Breathitt right now - granted that Matt Robinson was lining up on defense for those two games - I still think Perry could hang with Breathitt

and we haven't played the best D - but Perry's offense has gives them a puncher's chance in every game - they haven't lost a game that they weren't in position to take the lead in the 4th yet

and nice tree fiddy reference lol

I officiate myself, so Im all good with a mistake and calls being overturned , what have ya; but what I wasn't cool with is that SC was never notified that it wasn't their ball. The officials sat and watched 4-5 defensive players exit the field and the offense come on while all during this, Perry has broke their huddle and ready to snap it. This is just me chattering because the officials and calls were so noticeable. They however couldn't take away from the countless great individual plays we witnessed from each team. The two freshmen Butcher(#3) and Workman(#16) are absolutely doing things that 2 frosh aren't expected to do. Man are they going to be a sweet sight for the following years.

Congrats to PCC!!! What were Prey's numbers?
#23
On the prediction thread for this game almost everyone predicted a blow out. This young SC team has a fire and are proving people wrong including myself. Excellent job Coach Hagar and the Cardinals. Im looking forward to next week and a more improved team. This team has a bright future.

I know the back judge eddie browning is a principal at a perry county elementary school and the head line judge lives and works in the perry county school district his last names hall. even tho the officials blatantly cheated SC still gave the game away they had chances to put it outta reach still and couldnt. gotta quit coughing the ball up.
#28
Sheldon Clark's QB looks to be a nice dual threat type of guy from what I could see on SportsOvertime.

Future looks bright in Inez.

A few years ago, there was a keyfob that said, "my other car is a Mercedes". Now one is needed that says, "our defense is on loan to another team".

Future backs need to be Boston Marathon certified to be able to run nonstop all night without rest.

BTW, Congratulations PCC!
