And just to throw this out there even though it won't happen similar things have happened.
Boyd county will probably finish 4 in our district. So let's say they go and beat highlands in round one. Then in round 2 they come back and beat Ashland. In round 3 they beat Covington catholic. Remember all these games would be on the road against 3 of the top 4 in the ap poll. Don't you think if a team does something like this they earned home field in the semis? I know boyd county won't pull this off but wasn't there a district a few years ago that had a 3 way tie for first? In a district that is really stacked something like this could happen.

^ I know it's hypothetical, but if that really happened, then how in the world was Boyd County a 4th seed? lol
but let's go with that: Boyd County goes nuts and wins region beating 3 top 10 teams in 4A. In the semis, they play LexCath who went 8-2, but lost to a really good Ensworth (TN) and Bowling Green team. Are you then punishing LexCath because Boyd "earned" the right to host the semis even though LexCath played a more challenging schedule?

I like this. That way teams like Lowlands can't cheat opposing teams with their refs on their home field.

win and earn the home field
But that's the problem, winning does not mean home field advantage. It's in a rotating basis. Example for this Highlands, if they so happen to make it that far, will host the semis regardless if they have the better record that the opponent. A team that won a district must travel to their location. ( Correct me if I'm wrong )

Highlands would probably pay the KHSAA to find some way to give them home field advantage regardless of the situation. I bet they would be all against the neutral site.

Either through a challenging schedule or remarkable playoff success. So the current system works perfectly it is fair and balanced.

Vs a team like Louisville central who is 7-5 8-4 but really challenges themselves in the no district part of there schedule. You'd really weaken the quality of non district games teams would play. Making it really hard for the highlands and trinity of the world to schedule games. Say you have a 12-0 Ashland who has played the Likes of Lawrence,Raceland,Russell
Hosting lex cath who has played nationally ranked opponents and might drop a game or 2 cause they challenged themselves. I would be irate if I were the knights in that scenario.
Well if strength of schedule is a problem then let's quit giving out State Title trophies to 1A-5A

And it doesn't reward weak scheduling or punish a team for challenging itself. It is 100% arbitrary. Also if your going to win a state title your going to have to win games on the road whether it is in the playoffs or regular season. Playing regional championships at Johnson Central and semi finals at lex cath certainly hasn't kept highlands from having any success. Belfry went on the road last year and won a state semi game. Also didn't central win a region@ bell co? State champions do and should win on the road.
Central won at home last year 28-0 in the regional final.

So the year before would have been at bell though right?

I think if you don't do neutral fields - let home field be earned and not inherited
Problem with that is, you can easily have a team with 5-6 losses
that has played a MUCH tougher schedule than an undefeated team.
Central, as I recall, lost 5-6 games one of the seasons they
won 3A, all against 6A teams from Louisville.

That backhandedly makes a good point. It's blatantly unfair
for a home team to try to game the system like that. Everyone
remembers about a decade ago when Breathitt Co. had a much
better team than Belfry, and the Pirates swamped their field
trying to turn it in to a pig sty.

I'm not saying We should expect Raceland to play trinity. Racelands schedule is more than sufficient for a 1A school. The problem is in the larger classes 4-6 if u based it soley on record a team like Ashland could do something like this
Raceland
Fairview
Paintsville
Pikeville
Magoffin co
Shelby valley
Boyd(district)
Rowan(district)
Greenup(district)
Johnson central(district)
The only game we would lose might be Johnson central. Virtually guaranteeing us a 11-1 or 12-0 season and home field in the semis

The system in place like many have said is unbiased and fair, every team knows before hand where they will play.
In addition to the many cons that have mentioned I will add this:
Support as in volunteers to take up tickets, concessions parents, booster sales at games, etc. There is no guarantee that these people can make a trip and setup this stuff at a college concession stand, etc. It takes many school personnel to run a Friday night game and these small colleges aren't going to fork over a bid for a few thousand people to show up and have to pay people to work concessions, etc.
Bad idea all around, good intentions but just not justifiable.
For the people who are just throwing suggestions out, just remember things are easier said than done. The coach of the team has more worries during that week than to get parent's, team, busses, etc planned for what should be a home game for them.
Right now, both teams get to split the money after expenses. Why take that away and give it to another organization?
You are correct that the current system IS unbiased. And it is SOMEWHAT
fair, tough as I pointed out it DOES favor the programs that consistently
have contending teams, as opposed to a program that might produce
a legtit contender only once in a blue moon.
But neutral semi sites would be MORE unbiased, and MORE fair.
Your arguments about the money are certainly correct, except
that the KHSAA already takes a cut doesn't it?

Sounds like something else Highlands would do, probably when they play Johnson Central since they are a power running team.

Bell was in 4a then. Central would go to Bell this year if it plays out as expected.

Ah ok then. Appreciate the info. I would still say that even at bell co. Central probably wins that game. But guess we will find out in November.

I do not like the rotating " host team " for the semi's.
